TODAY! Marks the nationwide release for the new 3DS RPG game, BRAVELY DEFAULT!

Rating: IGN: 8.6/10

Based off Metacritic's information, it apparently got an overall rating of 85, making it number 4 in the top 5 current 3DS games. That's right below Pokemon X & Y.

Interesting facts:

Tomoya Asano, being the well known producer and project manager of varies Final Fantasy games was the lead producer for Bravely Default.

The game was developed by Silicon Studios, who are well known for the adventure game, 3D Dot Game Heroes.

The game topped Japanese sales charts in the first week with selling over 140,000 copies!

Brief Plot Note:

Playing as a Warrior of Light, you encounter friends and enemies while going around to restore the world's order by restoring the 4 crystals that balance the world.(I don't want to spoil much at all considering today does MARK the official release date.)

Gameplay:

Turn based with random battle encounters. A style which follows the "traditional RPG". It also focuses heavily on a job system where you can customize your part of 4 in over 100 different styles. There are total of 24 jobs that you can mix-match to discover your battle style and favorite techniques.

Below I've linked a few trailers that provide visual documentation to those who like to see and hear for their personal experience:

Adventure Trailer:

Story Trailer:

Character Trailer:

Jobs Trailer:

This has already been ranked as "one of best RPGs released in passed few years".

As a video game lover, I greatly support the production of games that will leave a legacy.

So what do you think guys? Are you brave enough to play one of the best RPGs (on the 3DS) of 2014?!

I heard a lot of good things about this game, so it's obviously not popular for no reason; but when I played the demo, I got nothing appealing out of it. Maybe it was just intended to ratchet up the difficulty, or maybe it was just that after about a dozen tutorials with no combat, I started skipping some of them. I do know that when I fought my first enemy, my characters did little to no damage to it while they took me out in about two hits. Whatever I was doing wrong, it wasn't all that obvious to me, and I'm not psyched about consulting the internet for battle tips in the very first fights of the game - maybe later when things get more difficult, but NOT that early. Afterward I guess I lost interest.

I have played the demo and played the everlasting fun of it till I grew tired!

It was fun, and the job mechanics gives it an unrelenting replayability that most games don't offer to much nowadays.

Although, the gameplay is a bit odd, especially when saving for actions, because you could either be OP or bite the dust.

But that aside, it's one heck of a game I'll be buying soon, and earns my nomination for handheld game for the year!

I can understand that, sometimes it is rather difficult for one to immerse themselves into a game if the beginning doesn't have that SPARKLY light that just absolutely captures your attention. In this case, that happened when I played fallout 3 and new Vegas. XD

I'm not biased on the game, though I did pick up my copy today. I have yet to honestly open the silly thing because the box is too pretty XD But I did play the demo. It's kinda difficult for me to get into rpgs, they have to have the right pick to click with my video game wants and needs.

I'm pretty enthusiastic just because I'm very involved in the video game world, and have to be completely unbiased.

Yes, the gameplay was a bit sketch. Not going to disagree there XD

Never trust IGN's ratings for anything, but if you're interested in playing with it go for it! :D

I have heard many people dislike how IGN critiques the video games, and maybe perhaps I haven't really seen them downplay a game I enjoy. There are games that deserve higher ratings that I know of from them. Definitely a lot of good critiques out there :D

Yeah, it's odd, in fact, I remember being stuck about a few hours or minutes figuring out how it properly works.

But once you get the hang of it, you'll start seeing where most of the fun for this game starts going on!

(edited)

looks kinda like a final fantasy type thing. I like final fantasy, but I dont have a 3DS.  :(

It is rumored to be a "spin off" of Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light :3

  • 1 month later...

I finally buckled down and got this game after my friend wouldn't shut up about it, I am playing the demo first because of the bonuses you get for completing the demo. So far it is a great game, it is harder than Chinese Algebra even toward the beginning but so far this a game I can really sink my teeth into. It has got pretty much everything good about old school RPG's with a couple of great things about modern ones. I am at the point where you have to fight the giant tortoise, not exactly easy but I can get passed him by training my team up a bit more.

My brother downloaded the demo and the demo is good for the rewards for the retail game. My Friend said that she found the game hard and I told her that she can adjust the difficulty of the game. I've started playing the game at feburary 20th and cleared the game within a week. This game can also allow you to add Friends that are on your 3DS friend roster, but in addition to this topic, if you want to add us, you can post your 3DS Friend Code here. Updating the data requires every midnight, JST (which is like about 7-8AM PST. 1hr margin from philippines time).

anyway if you guys need help, I may be able to provide information and advice.

I already have it and it's soo fun. I recommend getting it. You will love it even if you've never played an RPG (like me and I don't think pokemon counts) it's such a good game!!!!!!!!!

I don't care what pony you like because I like everypony!

I own the game myself as well. (I pre-ordered it in January.) The game's really hard on me (and I'm playing on easy. How pathetic am I?) But overall, I really enjoy the game, and the storyline, and the characters.

Well My brother got me into the game so I decided to play the game. The only problems I have in the game was MP burn because you have to use elemental magic to exploit the enemies weaknesses and then later on, I have to use 2 support abilities that restores MP, and of course the Moneymaking as well. I have no problems balancing the party out because that's what I normally do back in final fantasy 3 and 5, and the 4 heroes of light.

Anyway here's my advice for you guys, try to keep your party well balanced. You need at least 1-2 people that can attack with weapons, 1 person healing and support, and 1 person doing elemental magic.

A word of warning: Red Mage isn't that powerful without high level white magic from white mage and black magic from black mage so I may recommend using white magic for more healing matters and black magic for more damage. If you're using black magic for red mage, I may recommend using elemental rods including ogre's club to amplify the elemental effects.
