Consistency in background ponies.

I forget who pointed this out but they thought that background ponies are what ever the writing staff needs them to be.
Breaking into song with pinkie,

walking over flutter shy,

dismissing twilight than calling her princess.

Like even if it's not a bigger role,

how would you feel if we got consistent spots from them?

Kinda like what they didn't do with bulk bicep.

They can't be consistent with background ponies, because there's nothing that needs to be consistent. So I wouldn't worry about it.

Besides, you don't always have to have background ponies bursting into song at the drop of a hat or having lines consisting of pointless dialogue.

Background ponies are basically there to be played with. :P When necessary, they fill the roles other ponies can't and add more dynamics to make the world of Equestria seem all that more real. If we had consistent background ponies, it would mean that every single background pony would need to have lines in a majority of episodes. They would have to have their personalities and such established and displayed in order for there to be any consistency.

Showing a background pony in the spotlight once gives you a mere glimpse as to whom that pony is.

A second spot light episode with the same theme is hardly a coincidence.

A third episode with the same background pony in the same theme gives way to consistency but it's only one aspect of that pony.

To have a consistent personality, you need to have more than just one trait. :P In order to do that, we would need thousands upon thousands of episodes just to showcase the background ponies in their daily lives and such.

All that work just to see if they truly would break into song with Pinkie or be mean to Fluttershy?

Nope. XD No thanks.

Eh. No need.

Honestly, background characters are just there for filler. That's how it is for every show.

I know people fall madly in love with them, and I may not understand why, but I do know the majority of them realize that they're background ponies and wouldn't have liked them at all if they weren't the way they were.

that's not really true, south park

and the simpsons tend to be consistent with their back ground characters.

yes their adult shows,

but i fail to see how that would keep the show from keeping tract of back ground characters.

I mean the simpsons has what 100 back ground characters and they all have personality's that didn't take away from the show.
