* The other five idiotically acting like they've never heard Fluttershy sing.

* Plot convenience of Rarity and Big Mac in a singing group

* Predictability of the episode

* Status quo reset button at the end

Pinkie Pie's behavior was the least of my problems with this episode.

That sums up my list. It reminds me of the problem I had with Rarity takes Manehatten. (One being why no one notices Twilight as a princess anymore.) Then again, I was also urked with Bats for having the same problem as this episode. It wasn't to the degree as THIS, but as much as I loved Bats, it was annoying to see how everyone can turn on you in a split second and never apologize. Its one of those episodes where I'd like it reversed. (Attempt Fluttershy's final plan first before doing magic)

Though, in this episode, I hated Pinkie Pie.

Being some who gets stage fright/performance anxiety, it's easy to say that I hated Pinkie's behavior in this episode. However, a lot of outgoing and confident people tend to not understand what the more timid folk go through, so they don't have a problem saying any of these things. I don't see it as unexpected from such a boisterous person, plenty of confident/outgoing people have told me the similar things to what Pinkie told Flutters when I flip out about performing.

Yeah, I did. During the first commercial break when Big Mac lost his voice.

That's not good enough for me. She's still afraid to sing in front of a crowd. The best she'd done by episode's end was perform in front of her friends and a couple of animals. I would've liked to see some sort of determination. "Baby steps" seems like a pretty lame excuse to me.

Well, you're better at predicting the show than I am, and I understand what you mean, but in my opinion Fluttershy overcoming her fear in one instance would've actually weakened the message of the episode.

It's generally understood in most musicals and whatnot that when characters break into song, they're not actually singing unless someone calls attention to it. Hell, rainbow acknowledges that breaking into song is *unusual* in Rarity Takes Manehattan.

I'm inclined to agree with you in that regard. It can still be confusing and unsettling to the viewer, who knows what Fluttershy sounds like so much as to deem the others as foolish in their reaction.

Furthermore, what they actually said is "We've never heard you sing like that before" meaning that they may have heard Fluttershy sing before, but were especially impressed this time around with the quality.

While I can agree with the concern over how Pinkie Pie acted in Filli Vanilli to an extent as it baffled me a bit as well, I don't think her behavior was unintentional. On Twitter, writer Amy Keating Rogers mentioned that Pinkie Pie did not have her filter on today and had a bad case of being super blunt. She also mentioned that Pinkie often speaks without thinking and this is indeed true, but bear in mind that Pinkie Pie does mean well. :)

many people would pick Pinkie Pie as major fault, but I think she was perfectly on character. It's not the first time she acts blunty and with a lack of tact. Pinkie Pie wasn't actually rude for real, she just went overboard with things that made Fluttershy scared but were actual facts.

First of all this episode was AMAZING and I really don't feel that bothered by this fault I'm going to point out. Fluttershy is like the most inconsistent character of the show, all her episodes are focused on her shyness and it is a tad boring at this point, each time she experiences growth, in her next episodes is completely vanished.

In this she suffered from stage fright but she was perfectly fine performing in Rainbow Falls in front of hundreads of ponies.

Totally understand why this is not a "Key" episode.   It's just dealing with her stage fright.    Pinkie pie was a bit extreme but I found it funny each time so I'll give it a pass.

Biggest Flaw was the need for flash backs and Zecora needed more dialogue.

It had flaws certainly as any episode does, but the most glaring for me personally was Pinkie Pie.

I didn't like her when the series began because I didn't find her antics necessarily funny or even amusing, but given time they didn't bother me as much, at worst they annoy me-but in this episode I downright despised her for her appalling behavior towards her friend after frequently expressing her consideration and care for her friends in the past.

Without question, Pinkie Pie. While she wasn't a random dumbbat like in Three's a Crowd, Princess Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Falls, and Rarity Takes Manehattan, they were mainly flanderizations of her. In Filli Vanilli, she was an out-of-character asshole!

  1. What she said the first time was obnoxious and idiotic, and that's a point or two down on my book for this episode. But instead of getting better, her act worsened. Basically, the angry responses went in one ear and out of the other, making the comedy repetitive.
  2. Even after Fluttershy was traumatized by her screwup, Pinkie worsened the conflict by recounting the horror, upsetting her more and pissing off her friends. Once is fine, but she isn't oblivious to other people's emotions and feelings. If she screws up, then the IN-CHARACTER Pinkie would do something else and be more observant next time. Why? Because she's aware of her surroundings and not stupid!
  3. And as an added detail, once Big Mac lost his voice in a clucking competition, she bounced in front with the first-place prize around her neck and gloating about her win. There's one thing to feel sorry for the competition. It's another to make someone who got injured feel guilty by rubbing salt in the wound! The REAL Pinkie would NOT do not under ANY circumstances.

Her behavior was so off here, because she isn't unaware of her surroundings, not an idiot, and most certainly not a jerk! *thumbs down*

Just because AKR can explain it doesn't excuse this issue.

It's unanimous, Pinkie Pie wasn't being very careful about what she said to Pinkie Pie. As I stated in an earlier topic, I almost felt like Pinkie Pie was jealous of Fluttershy's singing and "tried to put her down" by stating all that bad stuff that would happen if Fluttershy were to participate in a competition with better singers, like being banished from Ponyville..that's actually a bit much  , who else but Pinkie Pie :) ?

The biggest problem I had was how inconsistent Fluttershy was.  >_>

Human Fluttershy isn't Equestria's Fluttershy so she might not have that same fear.

The awkwardness of Fluttershy at the school sticking her rump in the air while Big Mac gets all sweaty. That could send the wrong message. lol

I would have said it was Fluttershy overactive shyness for singing in front of her friends when its happened many times before without incident.

But no... Pinky Pie just annoyed the hell out of me. She really needs to be wapped with a rolled up newspaper more often

As much as I love Pinkie Pie, I'm going to have to say she was the biggest flaw.

She was simply straight up rude in this episode. Yeah she's supposed to be random and funny but this is nowhere near that.

Fluttershy was also a fairly big flaw in the episode, but it was bearable. On the other hand, dearest Pinkie Pie was just.. too much

As much as I adore Pinkie Pie, her behavior in this episode was clearly uncalled for. Does she not know how emotionally fragile Fluttershy is? I expected Pinkie Pie to at least have been a little more considerate for Fluttershy's personal feelings. Needless to say, she wasn't. *sighs* Pinkie Pie, why did you have to be so mean? :(

the funny thing is from season 1 (griffon the brushoff) she makes it abundantly clear that she is aware of FS's sensitivity by refusing to play pranks on her. so I can only assume that her callous comments were intentional. just like cupcakes..... I still can't eat cupcakes.

I mostly disliked the use of Flutterguy, why couldn't she use her real voice?

They needed a deep voice to replace Mac's, Fluttershy's voice "would've taken rearranging the music and [they] simply [didn't] have time."
