I've been on this thread for only a month, and it seems like many people use the internet a lot... excessively.  And I thought I had it bad.

http://www.helpguide.org/mental/internet_cybersex_addiction.htm

Personally, I use the internet probably 30 hours a week, but mostly for homework and music.  But I find myself getting caught up with stuff like MLP Forums and random YouTube videos.  I don't think that's a good thing, considering that it takes away my public life with friends and family.  I'm working on cutting down on my internet use, but maven't made too much progress, but I'm working on it.

So do you have internet addiction and think that's a good thing, and why?

I don't really believe you can be addicted to the internet itself. You can be addicted to specific content that is on the internet but not just the internet in general.

I spend probably about 100 hours on my PC per week and that is me estimating conservatively.

"Computer Addiction – obsessive playing of off-line computer games, such as Solitaire or Minesweeper, or obsessive computer programming."

I love that those were the only examples they came up with.

On a serious note, I think as long as it doesn't interfere with your work, school, or relationships, using the internet a lot is perfectly fine.

I wouldn't say I'm addicted to the internet. I will say that I can't imagine life without it. I mean, we use it so much in our daily lives that even the internet crashing for a few minutes makes us go crazy. Well, at least it makes me go crazy. :muffins:

I view the internet as a tool, but not a vice. If the Internet were to vanish tomorrow, I'd lose a few friends, but mainly I'd have to stop relying on Sparknotes and Wikipedia to complete my projects. So no, I'm not addicted to Internet or the computer, since I have a healthy, psychically active, socially engaged, balanced life offline that always takes precedent over anything online.

I go on the forums like every day and before I gamed 12/7. I go on the internet much more then other people in my school, but in return, I now know a lot more about stuff. The internet provides you with information on stuff. That's a disadvantage to the non addicts.

Yes, the internet is very adicting indeed! Not so much the internet, but the content that is ON the internet sure is anyway!

Especially when you get to know people on this forum, then it gets even worse! ^_^

I usually only use the internet for a few minutes to look up news that is occuring in the fandoms I'm in. I usually then just use the internet to watch youtube and then play video games for the majority of my free time.

Well I'm addicted to the content on the Internet. I'm addicted to this forums for example. Also my interests, cars, cartoons, anime, music and etc. A lot of my interests are on the Internet, I would consider myself addicted to it. I think it's both good and bad, good because I learn new things and my thirst for knowledge is one reason why I love the Internet. It's bad though because I hardly have a life in the outside world except for cars. So I'm good.

I use the internet too much, and I'm fully aware of it. I'm trying my hardest to use it less often, so I'm going to start a strategy.

I'm in front of it way more than I should be, but that's only because I really have nothing else to do at this point and rather be in front of a computer than a TV(unless it's to play video games)

I'm suffering from it RIGHT NOW.

But with this reminder that I got more important things to do, I thank you, and I think I shall go get off now. XD

On a more serious note though, yeah it's an addiction some times.

It's just so freaking stimulating. Talking to people, reading stuff, watching stuff, listening stuff!!

So. Much. TO DO!!

(and being a broke college student with few immediate friends makes the interesting stuff on here just that much more interesting)

But stimulating your brain at the constant expense of your exercise and obligations isn't good.

So off, I go!!

It's good to see people trying to do something with Internet addiction.

I think people need to get outside more, because that's where real life takes place, not on some computer screen. Really, there are plenty of other things to do other than spend your entire day on the Internet.

Fun fact: 50% of Japanease teenagers have Internet addiction. (I heard this on the radio)

Internet addiction? No.

Video games addiction? Yes...

Steam says I have 102.3 hours of gameplay in the last 2 weeks... I'm not proud of that...

That's about 15 hours a day, which is almost 2/3 of it....

And that's not even counting my minecraft hours...

Ohhhhhh boy.

Quack. Totally a Ducklett.

I'm addicted to Skype. I LOVE SKYPEEEEE.

I don't use the Internet that much, but I play a lot of games, which is my problem. DoTA 2 literally sucks up my life on weeknights when I'm not at job training or tutoring kids or swimming and whatnot.

However, I am willing to go without it, and I don't mind if I do.

I am not addicted to any form of modern media. No TV, No smartphone, No Internet at all.

I do have game systems, but they are an PS2 and Gamecube, which I haven't touched since LAST winter. I did get a 3DS and played the shiz out of Pokemon X, but now that the game is beat, I play about 10 minutes a day with Animal Crossing New Leaf and Brain Age, if that.

I am on the internet ALOT at work. But, I am the only employee in a small town store. It's very dead here, and I am able to drop what I am doing to help customers and don't go online until after all that needs to be done is done. I am not into social media, and other than some forums I am on, youtube, and my never ending thirst for knowledge, I don't do much of what peers my own age do...
