Mywas 687 February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 Everyone in this Fandom seems to hate Meghan. What did she do? I never seen her say a bad word about the fandom. And her writing is amazing. So why does everyone hate her? 1 Credits to Mint Drop for an awesome Sig.
Nature's Spell 526 February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 Didn't know anybody hated her at all. I know Amy Keating Rogers was in the bad graces of Pinkie fans and other writers are disliked for various reasons. I always thought for most fans Meghan is as liked as Lauren was and maybe even more so. Frostgage 7,977 February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 I haven't really seen her get any hate either. She's definitely one of the best writers on the staff. Megas 27,875 February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 Honestly? She has a tendency to overhype things that underdeliver, a lot. I like Meghan, but sometimes I wish that she didn't hype so many things
Guest90210 3,569 February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 A few reasons people don't like Meghan. 1. She wrote Equestria Girls, which some saw as a stereotypical teen drama that failed to deliver on any and all potential it had. 2. She "replaced" Lauren Faust, who was the creator of FiM. Her writing style is different as well. 3. She's taking the show in a much different direction than what was originally planned, and some don't like that.
FirestormCAN 246 February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 (edited) Comes down to three reasons in my book. 1) She took over from Lauren Faust, and people just can't get over that fact. Lauren had a huge fallout with Hasbro and just couldn't continue at the reins. So she handed them off to a dear friend of hers, someone she's worked with for a very long time. And for the most part, Meghan's done her job well, despite having to take orders from Hasbro. You know, the ones who actually own the whole damn franchise. If you guys want Lauren back, forget it. She's done with the series. You'd do well to leave her alone. 2) She hypes up people with all sorts of hints and clues regarding future episodes. And while most turn out to be true, there were some points that went in without her knowledge. Take Flash Sentry's cameo a few weeks ago. People flipped the fuck out over that 5-second appearance and sent unwarranted hate to Meghan. Despite the fact that it was M.A. LARSON who slipped him in there. I can never forgive the fandom for that, nor can I forgive them for going absolute fanbrat over Twilicorn. 3) Most bronies nowadays are so caught up in their fantasies and headcanons that they perceive every move made under her watch to automatically ruin the show, even if it wasn't her decision. Equestria Girls. Twilicorn. The Royal Wedding. Those were mainly Hasbro's decision to advertise the relevant toy lines. Marketed towards the kids. The actual target audience. In layman's terms, they're acting like complete fucking morons. So many fans are so butthurt that "their" show is being ruined because of the kids. Well I got news for you, folks. It was never "your" show to begin with. It was built for both kids and adults, watching it side by side like a family. Lauren said so herself. If you can't accept that fact, then put down that merch and look at yourself in the mirror. So for crying out loud, leave the girl alone. She's just trying to do her job as best she can while trying to find a balance between satisfying the fanbase, Hasbro, kids and parents. And it's extremely hard to pull off. Even moreso with these fanbrats making a mockery of the whole franchise. There's constructive criticism, and then there's being an asshole. Learn the difference. Moved to Elsewhere 11,331 February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 Probably because she wrote Equestria Girls and is the showrunner. I'm okay with her as show runner. She's better at it than Paul Tibbit is with Spongebob.
Nature's Spell 526 February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 (edited) @FirestormCAN I agree with everything you said but it wasn't MA Larson who inserted Flash; Jayson Thiessen said he did it. Basically the fandom is really immature and entitled. At the end of the day it's just a TV show and meant to be enjoyed. You call making death threats and accusing her of taking away their waifu "criticism?" Tsk tsk, Rivendare. It's not that the staff are immune to criticism, but attacking them so harshly is pointless and does more harm than good. When did I say that? Obviously, anyone who makes a death threat over a TV show is insane. But these are a select few instances, not representative of the analysis and brony communities as a whole.
FirestormCAN 246 February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 When did I say that? Obviously, anyone who makes a death threat over a TV show is insane. But these are a select few instances, not representative of the analysis and brony communities as a whole. Look at my third point again. Hasbro has a toy line in the works, and they want DHX to have the show reflect that. It's Meghan and the others' job to add it to the show and apply it to the show's mythos in a way that isn't as much of a blatant advertisement as it could be when left unchecked. Decisions are made between the two, but Hasbro is ultimately responsible for setting things in motion. Regardless of how well it goes, lots of fans unfairly bash them for it, when there's clearly more effort being put into this franchise than any other franchise of its kind. In their view, the series and hell, even the merch, should be meant for them. When it's clearly not. Many in the community care more about their fanfictions and comics than the actual show canon. They don't take it as speculation, they take it as actual fact, when it hasn't been fucking shown in the series yet or hinted by the staff. And I can tell you the same people would like to have Cadance, Shining Armor, Twilicorn and all of Equestria Girls wiped off the map, just 'cause they can't accept them as things that happened in the series. Again, I'm not saying all bronies are like this. I'm saying a lot of them are deluded and completely in denial. Nature's Spell 526 February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 (edited) Fanfic and head canons are a funny thing. I remember one of the writers remarking on Twitter about just hearing the phrase "head canon" and "Waifu" for that matter. The problem with fanfic is that they are way too personalized to take the place of show canon. The show is the only truth, but it's fine to enjoy your own ideas too. I could not have said it better myself! Seriously some of the things this fandom does, sending death threats and throwing temper tantrums over whenever the crew tries something different, it honestly makes me embarrassed to be a part of this fandom! Unfortunately we've gotten so many assholes join this fandom to the point where we've become one the absolute worst fandoms on the internet! When you've got people like JesuOtaku, Nash, etc. spewing a lot of venom at the fandom and making fun of us, I can understand where they're coming from! Personally I love Meghan McCarthy, I think the show has gotten better after she took over for Lauren Faust! I thought Equestria Girls a fun movie, I applaud them for trying something new things in the show and I think Season 4 is the show at its best. I don't really care what the analysers have to say. The show's still fun and the stories are still enjoyable, that's good enough for me.

King Sejong 859 February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 (edited) I love this fandom, and for the bronies who are level headed I will always support and respect them, yet there are some pedantic, irascible fans that are making us look bad, it's almost like an hyper sports fan, that gets painted up and shouts incoherent gibberish, in the hopes of supporting their team, sometimes going violent and attacking the opposition, even going as far as sabotaging the other team from the game. This is a children's show, and I am impressed by the maturity and restraint the children have displayed, in comparison to the adult fans, Meghan McCathy is a worthy replacement of the great goddess that is Lauren Faust, I swear if there was a shrine to Lauren there would be super fans to worship the idol, Meghan has great understanding of the characters, the storyline, and the land of Equestria, she was there when Lauren Faust pitched the show, and took Meghan as her personal assistant, we get a glimpse of this in the show, the relationship between Princess Celestia and Twilight Sparkle, now Meghan is not perfect there will be mistakes, but as far as writing is concerned she is very talented, so I say to the fans who send hate mail or death threats to Meghan, stop now, you are breaking the law, and you will give the brony haters something to use against us, I will defend Meghan like I support Princess Twilight Sparkle, and I encourage moderate bronies to not get mixed up with the bombast, we have to support each other with the cast and crew of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. Wingnut 7,005 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 Comes down to three reasons in my book. snip Well said. In addition to all that, don't forget the mini-shitstorm that erupted when she tweeted "Every little girl wants to be a princess". Actually, she was alluding to the dialogue in the Season 4 opener where Rarity says something very similar and Rainbow Dash mitigates that statement by saying not everypony. In context, it makes perfect sense. But out of context, yeah, Bronies weren't happy with that line.
