Ugh, I hate Diet Coke. It doesn't taste good, AT ALL. Besides, what's the point of getting that shitty Diet Coke when there's Coke Zero, which tastes exactly like regular coke, but without any sugar.

I drink a lot of diet sodas. I really like the taste of them... I mean sure I'd probably prefer to drink all regular soda, but it's not like Diet Coke doesn't taste good to me too.  As for why I drink it, it's because I have a strong history of diabetes in my family, so I can't drink lots of sugary drinks.  So that leaves me with relatively few options for a go-to drink, so I go with Diet soda.  Sure I could drink nothing but water, but I don't want to.  Call me stubborn but I like things with flavor.

I drink coke because it tastes good, not because it's healthy. We make the same point; why make something that isn't already healthy, taste not so good? It does, indeed taste like watered down coke.

My mom drinks diet coke all the time. She's tried to "get off it" here & there but somehow alwasy goes back.

As an x-smoker I get that its really hard to quit an addiction but damn, there must be crack in this stuff cuz she is really struggling.

I refuse to drink it.

Diet sodas are gross to me. Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, diet anything. Some reduced-calorie sodas are alright, depending on the sweetener used and the type of soda it is. I've had some that were naturally flavored with citrus, flowers, or something and they were fine without the additional sweetness. These days I drink nothing but plain seltzer water. No taste at all, but I still find the carbonation refreshing.

If you're looking for the great taste or sweetness of a soda but are concerned about the health ramifications, why not try decreasing the frequency of consumption and drink smaller portions? You don't have to give it up altogether, but exercise some self-control. People drank sodas for many years before obesity and diabetes became "epidemic," but back then people didn't buy cases of 24 12-ounce cans or two 2-liter bottles at a time and drink them in half a week. Restraint is all you need.

And both of them claim they are "used to the taste", which is why they compulsively buy it so often.

The dubious effects of aspartame aside, they could also be hooked on the caffeine unless they're buying the caffeine-free variant. People with a caffeine problem often don't realize they have one and mistake their craving for it as genuine enjoyment or acclimation to that which is giving it to them.

Well it's even worse for you than full fat coke because it contains a certain chemical which if you have to much of can really damage you, it's much worse than sugar. I also think it tastes pretty weird.

Fun fact time: Coke Zero is the same as diet coke except Diet coke targets girls and Coke zero targets men.

I never drank diet soda's at all, because they taste too strange. I have always stayed away from the "darker" soda's because the high acidity level. Coke and Pepsi would give me heartburn, even as a little kid. Root beer doesn't count because it one of the least acidic soda's out there (and it's one of my personal favorites).

Today, I do not drink soda, because it's overall unhealthy to drink and a waste of calories. However, I have gone on Mountain Dew binges when I am very mentally weak willpower wise....I mix mountain dew with sunkist....actually, when ever I have drank soda, I always have to mix it with another flavor (except root beer)....

To be honest, I can't tell a difference in taste between any pop and its diet counterpart. They always taste the same to me.

Then again, the only thing I drink is water and the occasional 7Up. So I don't have much experience on the matter.

Indeed.

Diet Coke is my favorite drink. I probably drink more than a healthy amount of it. I'm not a huge fan of Pepsi (never liked the taste), while regular Coke (or any drink with a lot of sugar in it) gives me massive headaches.

I stopped drinking diet soda when I found out about Aspartame which is artificial sweetener added to about 90% of diet sodas along with thousands of other low sugar and sugar free products and even some high sugar products (it is the reason why I don't chew any gum anymore ever) which is literally made from radioactive e coli bacteria feces which is pretty ironic considering how many of you here said it taste like crap. That which made me go "eeeeeeeeew" along with all of the debilitating side effects which you can see here.

I'll say this much: whenever I somehow get diet cola (which rarely happens since my family prefers regular soda), what I usually do is squirt some lemon juice, pour in 4 or 5 spoonfuls of sugar, and stir well, it helps make the taste enjoyable (or at least bearable).

If you got diet cola, and you're only concern is that you don't like the taste, I suggest giving it a try.

I used to chug Diet Coke and I mean CHUG. I'm talking a 2 liter per day on average. I originally started drinking because I was trying to lose weight and had to start cutting calories somewhere. Part of the reason why I drank so much was because I have ADHD and the caffeine slowed me down and kept me mellow. But I finally had enough of drinking so much caffeine so I switched to water and caffeine free drinks for the last 4 months now. Not sure how I quit cold turkey , but I did.
