I'm sure NASA would be working to put permanent colonies on the Moon and beyond as well as begin development on reliable interstellar drives, perhaps even drives that are currently seen as science fiction, like warp drives and faster-than-light travel.

There's no right or wrong answer to this because, in the end, somebody is going to die.

But if I had to choose, I'd be more inclined to choose my family.
