Sigma 768 March 2, 2014 Share March 2, 2014 (Sorry about the low-quality grammar on the title, I had to stay within a character limit.) I have noticed subtle fan-based fads appearing in season 4, fads that were popular amongst not the show's intended demographic (little girls), but among the bronies. This includes, but is not limited to: The reappearance of 'Flutterguy' in Filli Vanilli. Fluttershy's quiet 'yay...' reappearing in the beginning of It Ain't Easy Being Breezies The six turning into breezies in It Ain't Easy Being Breezies (I'd figure this might come from the developers noticing the brony community's positive reaction to 'Flutterbat', and that showing the six turning into new creatures, along with the introduction of sub-equines, would produce a similar reaction.) Big Macintosh winking at Cheerilee in Filli Vanilla and making her faint. The introduction of Cheese Sandwich. (Probably laying fertile shipping grounds for the brony community, considering that there's a lack of ships involving Pinkie Pie. I am unsure about this claim, so correct me if I'm wrong.) The official introduction to Daring Doo, not just references from books. And lastly: Seeing Time Turner (Dr. Wooves) and Derpy Hooves together in the background of one of the episodes. I cannot remember which episode, but I remember seeing them together. I understand that some of these are far-fetched, but some of them aren't. Malinter 3,064 March 2, 2014 Share March 2, 2014 the only problem with some of these is that S4 was all made together months ago and not on a week by week basis so thats the flutterbat and breezies ones out. the Mac one and flutterguy.... possibly... Legacy Dash 439 March 2, 2014 Share March 2, 2014 It seems like Hasbro will throw in a little treat for us bronies every once and a while, which is nice. However though, since we aren't the original target audience, the show will probably continue to cater mainly for younger children. Signature by . My personal website: Mitchfizz05.net. That's how I see it, they are giving a shout out to us, to show that we still exist to them.
Frostgage 7,981 March 2, 2014 Share March 2, 2014 Fluttershy's quiet 'yay...' reappearing in the beginning of It Ain't Easy Being Breezies Ah, so glad someone else noticed that! I agree with all the others as well. Honestly, it really frustrates me when Bronies complain about something in the show that was directed at the target demographic. The writers really don't owe us anything so we should be grateful for the shout outs that we do get. 1 Signature by Lacerna | You should fill out my Johari Window. All the cool kids are doing it. Thespian 78 March 11, 2014 Share March 11, 2014 Some of the fan service I feel is getting a little over the top. I feel like it makes it so no new jokes can be made. If macintosh continually keeps being unable to talk and we constantly see Dr. Whooves with Rose... those characters have become stale.
FNGRpony 658 March 11, 2014 Share March 11, 2014 That's been happening since Season 2. This thread is like 3 years late. This bears repeating. there's a new tear of tiresome listening to fans acting like making fans happy is the end of the world. I would sooner be buried up to my knee's in panda's than hasbro toy episodes. Like canterlot wedding and the breezies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvTYhrZUgYY flight to the finish. i continue to improve,
Simon 4,557 March 11, 2014 Share March 11, 2014 There's plenty of fan service but I really don't think the things you talked about are good examples... Flutterguy and Yay were part of the show. That's not fan-service, that's just continuity from earlier episodes. And I don't think Cheese Sandwich was made for shipping... I think that they got Weird Al and made an appropriate character for him. His character wasn't about making a ship for pinkie, it was about making a competitor for pinkie so we could test her resolve. The breezies were a nod to a previous generation of MLP. There are plenty of such nods in the series starting with the fact that many of the characters in the show were named after characters from earlier generations. And background characters appearing together I don't think is anything shocking. Maybe that's a bit of fan-service but hardly a major example. But then again, there are plenty of examples of genuine straight up fan-service in the show. For example, in Pinkie Apple Pie, they did a parody of Twilightlicious which was an audio clip of Tara Strong from twitter that went all over the place and got animated. You had Dr. Whooves with 3D glasses on which was a Dr Who reference. Pretty much all of Rainbow Falls... I think there are plenty of examples of fan-service, just not the ones you're pointing out. But then again, there's been fan-service throughout the series, so it's not anything new. I mean, remember the Last Roundup? Making Derpy her official name? I mean, every time Derpy has shown up past the first appearance, it's been fan-service. Point is, it's nothing new.

Red Cedar 1,408 March 11, 2014 Share March 11, 2014 I agree. The show's for young children, and the producers are going to keep it that way. Considering that's the show we got into watching and loving in the first place, I'm all right with that. The occasional shout-out to the older bronies is great, but it's not necessary. We have our own community to explore everything else. Roleplaying OC: Red Cedar - Cast Character: Applejack
Revy ~ Two Hands 862 March 11, 2014 Share March 11, 2014 (edited) Yes they did a take on twilight licious in a recent S4 ep. Which I thought A) was idiotic since twilightlicious never was that big of a thing, That was years ago & C) It was crap. I think the in-referencing is just like the writers saying 'hey we got 2 more minutes or air time to fill so...Ideas guys?' What's fanon and popular on the internet should stay on the internet, because let's be honest most trends are moronic. Regardless it is a shout-out non the less and we should be grateful that they care enough to listen. I swear, if we keep giving them mixed signals then they are eventually going to start to make poor decisions as they are uncertain what we want and don't. Scootalove 10,692 March 11, 2014 Share March 11, 2014 The writers have thrown fan service to the fandom as a few hints to culture references, I'd say that they are just shoutouts nothing that can hurt the show at all. Sugar Pea 2,683 March 11, 2014 Share March 11, 2014 As much as I really love these tip of the hats towards us Bronies, i'm starting to feel that it's kinda moving away from it's main purpose just a tab. Like, it seems Hasbro is trying to please the Bronies more than the little ones...I mean don't get me wrong, I still see that it's targetting the younger audiences and stuff but...you know what i'm trying to say? I can't help but feel kinda selfish, although what is being thrown at us is applied to everyone. >.< ℓ٥ﻻ ﻉ√٥υ
Arctic Night 884 March 11, 2014 Share March 11, 2014 There is also the segment of Pinkie Apple Pie in which Applebloom makes a reference to the fandom. "Who's got the map? I got the map! M to the A to the yeah, that's right, P Ain't no other pony found a map like me..." http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Apple_Bloom Sig made by Kyoshi. Cool things people have said about me: Never heard of him but I guess just you mentioning him is a good reason not to go anywhere near that name. (In reference to an author I suggested.) Steel Accord 6,660 March 11, 2014 Share March 11, 2014 They've gone on record saying that we have an influence on the show. Is it a problem though? I would say no. They usually reserve the stuff for small nods and jokes. Other things such as the Breezies I think were plot devices and honestly had nothing to do with us.
