Eloquence 2,076 March 5, 2014 Share March 5, 2014 Any gore that's in image form. I'm fine when it comes to fics but show me a vid and... *shudders* Smile HD for example, not only would I never watch it because the mere idea of it is terrifying but the fact that it exists with NO visible content warnings in a place where children could easily find it and mistake it for something innocent makes me violently ill! That's one fear, the other is that the word Brony will forever be seen as intertwined with misogyny and unkindness, and that in every conversation about bronies forever I will be stripped of my gender and sexuality for the sake of not threatening a stereotype that shouldn't exist in the first place 3 My Equestrian Empire Characters Fluttershy - Eloquence - Chamomile - Ginseng - Lovestruck Ask Me Questions! FoxyCryptid 4,330 March 5, 2014 Share March 5, 2014 (edited) My grievance is a lack of openmindedness along with stubbornness that leads to explosions of 'fandom drama' which are always completely unnecessary, more or less. A lot of people seem to think their 'ideal' should apply to the fandom as a whole and conveniently forget the incredible diversity of the fanbase. ^This. I agree 100%. The elitism and "this is how you should be a fan, you're doing it wrong" annoys me to no end. Those grimdark stories the fandom produces, like Cupcakes, Cheerilee's Garden, etc. I don't see why we have to have those, but I guess that comes with the territory of having a fandom -_- Also, the fact that the .MOV series got popular Ughh. To be fair, Cheerilee's Garden wasn't half bad. It was an achievement in my eyes because it was a grimdark/gorefic that was actually freakin' scary. The psychological horror aspect and the fact the writer managed to make the villain interesting to see into the twisted mind of made it all the more horrifying. Just out of curiousity okay no that's a lie; the entirety of my involvement in this fandom is based in personal idealism, why does this scare you? Does not idealism usually lead to positivity and collective hope? One ideal that's a personal favorite of mine is Love And Tolerance. Is that what you're referring to, or do you mean the ideology of anti-clop purists like the DWM people? ^This. I agree 100%. The elitism and "this is how you should be a fan, you're doing it wrong" annoys me to no end. I dislike elitism based in popularity, but are you referring to moral elitism like the anti-R34 and anti-gore things, those that hate on others within the fandom for their actions? I do not quite understand what specifically you are referring to. Edited March 5, 2014 by The Late Night Shine
Solid 1,327 March 5, 2014 Share March 5, 2014 I personally refer those who find actual rational reasons to discredit mlp and bronies as dislikes, they are usually credible and would not attack the fans personally. The haters on the other are mainly irrational, they don't seem to possess practical reasoning, sort of like those extremists in various religions. On the other hand, there are several kinds of bronies as well. One is the ideal type that likes the show, kind of spreads it around but never to the point of spamming. While the other type is the "rabid" kind which post pony stuff all over the place, ADAPT PONY LANGUAGE in conversations both online and offline, and last, blindly reject all negative feedbacks as hate. The two things that I find terrifying are the extremists of both sides. We have enough extremists in this world to wreck havoc, we don't need more. spezzzzzhdafuigb 49 March 5, 2014 Share March 5, 2014 Those who act like MLP ponies are real. If you seriously believe you are IRL friends with Pinkie Pie, go see a doctor because something is wrong with you. On a similar note, I saw a thread about tulpas, which is basically a fancy word for an imaginary friend that adults say to feel less ridiculous about not outgrowing that. That's pretty weird too. Completely agree with you on the people who think MLP is real. I like to think it's real, but it's (probably) not. The truth hurts.

What scares me is people trying to force their ideals on others, like, 'oh hey you should live up to this beacon of whatever because brony'. No. Please. I don't have to be anything because I'm a brony. I just have to be one. I happen to like Rule 34. I happen to occasionally peruse /MLP/. I'm kind of a jerk and a troll on some parts of the internet. Night Shine 767 March 5, 2014 Share March 5, 2014 (edited) Hey, I'm not hating on those who do idealize it as something, more power to them. Just don't get all high and prissy with me because I don't, is what I'm saying. Here's the problem with that reasoning, at least according to what i used to think. The entire reason that I idealized the fandom--and that many others do the same--lies in it not as a group of individuals, but as a collective Whole. Those idealists want to say that Bronies are the Kindest, Friendliest, Purest people on the Internet, or something to that extent. Here's an example of that line of thought... Problems arise when individuals within the collective go against those ideals, and then the Idealists are caught in a dilemma between the reality of the situation--Bronies are a group of people and as such are innately flawed--and their hope that the Brony fandom could rise above the rest and be something more. At least in my case, in order to be an idealist, I needed you and everyone else in the fandom to go along with it. Which, by the way, is rather easy. You already seem to have several of the traits that I valued--Kindness and Friendliness--which are really not that difficult for most I have encountered in this fandom. Ideals, just like stereotypes, exist for a reason, even if that reason isn't quite consistent with reality. My biggest problem was that R34 clashed with my ideal of this fandom being Something More than just another fandom with its own impurities...but anyway, now I'm rambling and I sound like a jerk. *sigh* I need to learn to internalize my values. If only I was an INFP instead of an INFJ...gah! I need to be relevant. My point is that, in my case at least, my ideal of the fandom required that everyone went along with it. There was no possible way I could keep my dream (that the Bronies are the Purest group of people on Earth) without actually believing it and acting accordingly. EDIT: Oh by the way, in response to something in your original reply: I never idealized MLP:FiM, I only idealized its fanbase. Ribbonfree 2,383 March 5, 2014 Share March 5, 2014 @@The Late Night Shine, it is a ramble, but it's a good one. Right. The problem I have with that kind of thinking, that everyone has to be something to adhere to a small group of persons ideals, is that it's egotistical to assume that you can make everyone whatever, that it's hypocritical to expect others to change to meet you when you can always change to meet others... I can go on and on, but at the end of the day it's neither practical nor friendly, your apparently old way of thinking. As far as I'm concerned, you are what defines your world. You make yourself the ideal you want to be. You're not a paragon of kindness and honesty and other good things because you're a brony. You are a brony, and you are a paragon of [insert crap here]. It's impossible to change others. The best you can do is make yourself the best you think you can be. And that's why I don't like the idea of people trying to make others in the brony fandom something they're not to fit with an ideal. It's not practical, and on some level it's not even moral. Night Shine 767 March 5, 2014 Share March 5, 2014 (edited) Right. That is a very good point, and I understand that. You just pinpointed why my old mindset doesn't work--but the point I was trying to get out was that there's no happy medium. I can't keep my dream if I'm the only one who cares. I can go on and on, but at the end of the day it's neither practical nor friendly, your apparently old way of thinking. I never said anything about practicality...in fact, I legitimately had a grudge against Logic last year, when I idealized the fandom in the way that I previously explained. Still, you're on point with the Friendly part. I used to be better at balancing purism and friendliness than I am now, but even at the time it caused me great despair when nobody was right. For example, in what I call the "Clop Dilemma," my ideal couldn't win. I either had to side with the ones who took purity and sexualized it, or the ones who were being jerks. As far as I'm concerned, you are what defines your world. You make yourself the ideal you want to be. You're not a paragon of kindness and honesty and other good things because you're a brony. I just wish that the Brony fandom could be something more than just a fandom with all of the requisite impurities such as R34, gore fics, drama, hate, arguments, and the like, but that can't happen. @@The Late Night Shine, it is a ramble, but it's a good one. ...
