Should they bring Nightmare Moon back?

 I think it would be pretty cool if they brought Nightmare Moon back for a season finale. Nightmare would have to be reintroduced some how considering Luna is no longer Nightmare Moon, so I was thinking, If Luna is some how manipulated by Discord to go power crazy again, the Ponies would have to find a way to bring Luna back and fight Discord. I think it would make for a pretty cool episode.

I don't agree with that exact method, nor do I agree with the idea of introducing Nightmare Moon again with this present iteration of Luna. I'm not sure how to make it happen without cheapening the (minute) development she's gotten as a character, learning to fit more into society. What I could see happening is flashbacks to more Nightmare Moon in the past content.

I like Nightmare Moon a lot but I think having her come back would ruin Luna's character and make it unjustified for Celestia to keep her around.

I'm going with no. First there is no point in Luna going evil again or Discord wanting to turn her evil. 

 

Also they already did that in the comic.

Yea it'll never happen and that's for the best. Luna was set free from her corruption so there really isn't a way for NMM to return within the lore of the show.

 

The comics are basically an alternate dimension and there NMM was caused by some dark entities. They came back for revenge and used Rarity as a host this time around and then were defeated for good. All the critters that were playing host for weaker, minion entities turned back into their former selves and everyone went back to living their happy lives on the moon.

 

Moral of the story, you should be reading the comics if you're not.

They did: in Luna Eclipsed (references, and Luna shapeshifting), in the comics (possessing Rarity), and in Princess Twilight Sparkle (flashback).

No, I have two main reasons for this;

 

1. We have seen Nightmare Moon twice already. In that case, once in a flashback and once in the 'kinda present time'. She was defeated in both. Bring her back again would kinda drag that out. Which is why I am glad Discord is not(?) a villain now.

 

2. All it would do is set Luna back as a character. She has been around this long now not as Nightmare Moon so we could assume that she is adjusting well and not being so angry all the time about her sister and whatnot. Her going crazy again would pretty destroy all of that, even if she has not made many appearances. There is that too, Luna has not had a ton of screen time really sooo, having more of that screen time be her being evil again would be kinda...annoying.

 

Just my opinion. I also don't think that way of doing would be good at all. To me, that is a pretty bad idea.

Oh I think she should definitely come back, because there is some unfinished business from the Nightmare Moon arc. Celestia seals NMM in the moon with the EoH. Mane 6 purify NMM of darkness. Why didn't the EoH purify Luna when Celestia used them? The EoH didn't change her mind the first time. It won't change her the second time.

 

Second, the problems that caused Luna to rebel have not been addressed. She went on strike because no one cared for her work. She was a princess without subjects, seeing as how they all slept though her reign. Luna wanted recognition for her efforts and her extremism got her banished for it. Now that she's back, what's changed? Nothing. Ponies still sleep though the night and Luna has to raise the moon and stars like a good little pony. Back to square one. Her needs are not being met, just like 1000 years prior.

 

Even worse still, she comes back not only to be vilified as a creature of myth, but to learn that Celestia has been doing her job, her one purpose in life, the thing that gave her existence meaning. Luna has just found herself to be utterly redundant and worthless in the function of both princess and demigoddess. Any sane, thinking and feeling creature would be angered and heartbroken to learn that after being gone for so long, the first things the world says to her is "we didn't miss you and we don't need you."

 

Luna still not getting her retribution, not getting her self-affirmation, not getting her recognition or acknowledgement should be driving her insane. Perhaps she is insane, ultimately broken of her will, doing as she's told because that's all she's good for, disconnected from any passion she once felt for her work, now just going though the motions.

 

No, Luna is feigning reformation, until the right moment to strike arises. It has to be one or the other because Luna acting okay with being ignored, feared, and rendered irrelevant doesn't make any sense what so ever!

Considering that is has been hinted that some external force caused Luna to turn into Nightmare Moon, she might. Maybe somepony else will be tempted and corrupted by whatever turned Luna into Nightmare Moon. Scootaloo maybe?

What about an episode where Luna isn't nightmare moon, but somehow that personality is personified and only Luna can banish that evil away for good. It would give Luna an episode, it would be action packed (which I feel this season is sort of lacking) and it would solidify her as a changed pony. For some reason i always get the feeling that Nightmare moon hasn't completely left Luna.

I don't really think so, she was good to introduce the characters and the EoH, but Luna seems reformed and it'd be kind of out of place to bring her back. The only way I would like to see Nightmare Moon implemented is maybe to see a flashback of her time in exile on the moon.
