Frostgage 7,982 March 9, 2014 Share March 9, 2014 Man, they better not. If it gets to that point, they should really just age the characters. What's the point of having child characters if they never actually get older? It's bad enough that people complain about Claire's voice changing. 9 Signature by Lacerna | You should fill out my Johari Window. All the cool kids are doing it. Twilight The Creator 298 March 9, 2014 Share March 9, 2014 Just AGE THE CHARACTERS! They've been the same size for a year. (if my interpretation of how time progressed during episodes is right) And they should have their cutie marks by the season, or else... 6 Kill People, Burn Shit, Fuck School. -Tyler the Creator
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,203 March 9, 2014 Share March 9, 2014 I agree with the two above posts. Age the characters when this becomes the case. That literally makes the most logical sense for everyone. We get to watch the characters grow and we are not completely alienated with different voices to how they are now. I am all for progression, so I definitely would love to have character growth rather than the other option. Win-win in my book. 5 Redeem me into childhood. Show me myself without a shell. Grumpy Enchantress 587 March 9, 2014 Share March 9, 2014 I think it obviously depends on if they'll age them or not. Personally I hope we see the CMC grow up and get their cutie marks, but if the writers wanna keep them the same age, their voices should be replaced. Scootaloodle 1,623 March 9, 2014 Share March 9, 2014 I don’t think so, at least I hope not: maybe the voices will change a bit, but since ages aren’t mentioned I don’t think it matters I don’t think they’ll sound that different, plus unlike boys girls voices don’t break and go all deep like men do. RockinRarity 1,605 March 9, 2014 Share March 9, 2014 I agree with aging them - the fact that this show has ongoing character development and that the characters do change in physical appearance and remain that way afterwards (Princess Twilight, anyone?), it only makes sense. MLP: FiM isn't like Arthur. Arthur is more like Spongebob or The Simpsons where everyone stays the same age so that the show can go on forever and the characters can remain static. MLP isn't like that. I'm reminded of shows like Malcolm in the Middle and Full House where the young characters inevitably grow up and that changes the show. They are live-action shows so there isn't as much flexibility in how they choose to age the characters. But MLP is a different kind of cartoon because it WANTS character development and it WANTS to change things because of character growth. So the right direction for the show, then, would be to age the CMC and make them adults. If the show is going to last for 5 more years like Hasbro apparently said, then I think it would be awesome to see the CMC grow into adult mares by the end of it. It would be a reflection of the little girls who grow up watching the show. I think that'd be pretty neat. I don’t think so, at least I hope not: maybe the voices will change a bit, but since ages aren’t mentioned I don’t think it matters I don’t think they’ll sound that different, plus unlike boys girls voices don’t break and go all deep like men do. Women's voices do get deeper as they age though. But you are right otherwise, because females don't have testicles so the change in their voices isn't nearly as jarring. 3 Follow my blog! ~The Mind of Sally - Experiences, Opinions, Musings~
Fhaolan 4,494 March 9, 2014 Share March 9, 2014 They should age the characters, but they likely won't. And unfortunately it may be a decision based on cost rather than anything else. Actors tend to get higher pay the longer they are in a role. Voice actors tend to increase less than 'in front of camera' actors, but they still expect some kind of increase. If the show really does go another five years as Hasbro has mentioned, they're either going to have to devote more budget to actor fees, or replace a few actors to cover the increase in costs of the mains. Which means the voice actors of regular, but not technically primary, characters will likely get replaced with lower-cost actors. If they do keep all the current voice actors, the series will increase in cost of production. If Hasbro gets twitchy about that, which all big companies do when faced with this, we'll see cuts elsewhere.

Yes there is a difference between age groups voices, but I’m sure Nancy Cartwrights voice has changed over the years and yet she’s been a 10 year old boy aka Bart Simpson since 1987 which is 27 years, and she has yet to be fired because she’s older and her voice may have changed a little. So why should it be any different with Clare, Michelle or Maddie? As long as they can still do the characters and don’t quit and the voices aren’t a drastic change that’s far too noticeable then I don’t see why they’d replace them. Pomfritter 165 March 9, 2014 Share March 9, 2014 They record lines far in advance. Michelle Creber, the voice of Applebloom, said that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqIkA69YT5Q was recorded before she knew Gabe, the person who made that "meme" of the fandom up. So a Season 4 line was recorded at least before Season 3.

(if my interpretation of how time progressed during episodes is right) And they should have their cutie marks by the season, or else... I agree. I personally have a huge respect for shows that are willing to let their characters mature and grow and so far MLP has given me only a few instances of doubt to this. We've seen the CMC mature so much in the past seasons. Sweetie Belle learning magic, Apple Bloom getting to stay home on her own, and Scootaloo realizing that flying isn't everything. I have big expectations on the handling of the CMC as the grow up, and I will be sorely disappointed with the creators if they don't let the CMC mature. 1 Love is a most potent magic My FiMFiction | My DA | My Facebook
Scootalove 10,692 March 9, 2014 Share March 9, 2014 I don't think they will be replaced since they have done the voices for a long time, they should age the characters but Hasbro would probably not do that because they would have to make some changes if they were to hire new voice actors for the Cutie Mark Crusaders. The writers will let them mature, we just have to see. 2 Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules

You know she was never a 10 year old when she had the role and was a woman the whole time, right? She got hired because she can make her voice sound younger, not every girl can do that and the CMC voices might not be able to. So why should it be any different with Clare, Michelle or Maddie? Because it's not the same at all. Nancy Cartwright was never a little boy and wasn't even a little girl when she started doing Bart. That's a ridiculous comparison to 3 little girls voicing little girls. As long as they can still do the characters and don’t quit and the voices aren’t a drastic change that’s far too noticeable then I don’t see why they’d replace them. Once again, the voice of Bart Simpson isn't the same thing at all. Name one voice actor or actress that started out as a kid voicing a kid and when they hit puberty, they kept doing the character and it didn't age. I bet if that happened everyone would be able to tell the difference. A grown woman starting out to do a voice and continuing to do it for 27 years isn't even comparable to a kid going through puberty and doing it.

And I do recall Meg being 18 currently when she was 16 when Family Guy started. Chris and Cleveland Jr I also believe have aged. Flutter's lover <3 8,210 March 10, 2014 Share March 10, 2014 If they don't age them, I highly doubt it. They're doing a great job and are probably making a fair bit of coin and they know it's a popular show. Arthur has been on the air for so long, of course there's gonna be VAs change, just like there has been in the Simpsons. But MLP hasn't been on the air for all that long....so imagine the CMCs will have the same voice actors for a while. Though if they do age them, then yea, I could possibly see a change in VAs.
