I recently dreamt that I was bitten by a dog with rabies. Then I saw a dog limping with its brain exposed, and bits of it was falling onto the street -- seemed as though it had been cut up or severely rotted. It collapsed, then got up again limping aimlessly. Somehow it was still alive while it was, in a more literal sense, losing its mind (perhaps it was a zombie dog).

I probably had said dream because I watched videos on the origin of some Creepypasta images, and Smile Dog was one of the images discussed.

I recently watched Athena P's video on WordGirl, and I came to a realization

Most of the similarities are pretty subtle at first glance, but once you realize they're there, you never look at WordGirl the same again. 

(If you have a strong stomach I do recommend trying out Grossology, cause it has some very likable characters and some GREAT animation at times)

I don't think you will. The original has a few stories that 2017 didn't touch (from what I know), and no stories or characters are jokes of an original character since it is the original.
