How Many People have You Brought into the Fandom?

True Rarity

Recommended Posts

I am actually keeping track; my mission is to welcome as many friends as possible into the fandom.

I myself was converted when a friend of mine mentioned that she liked the show but I thought nothing of it until I saw some gifs and pictures. My curiosity got the best of me, I did a whole lot of research and finally watched it on Netflix.

I have welcomed four new(ish) fans so far, not counting four out of my five siblings. The stories can be a bit long, so yeah... Spoiler tag.

The first was a good friend of mine who agreed to watch the pilot episodes with me and was hooked immediately.

The second was a bit harder. She one day asked me what my favorite TV show was and I told her straightforward and recommended it to her. In return she would introduce me to Dr. Who. So it was a loooooooong time before I managed to show it to her, and during that time period I at first reminded her about MLP a few times and she would return by mentioning Dr. Who, and later so I wouldn't seem uninterested in Dr. Who I became the first to mention it and this time SHE would return with a MLP reminder. Anyway, finally I got around to showing her "Luna Eclipsed" and "Lesson Zero", and she seemed mildly interested. About a month later we watched the pilot episodes and they almost killed it for her. :( Being the good friend she was, she let me persuade her to watch a few more, and after the end of each episode I'd ask "Want another one?" and she'd reply with "Sure, why not?" About the sixth episode in I didn't even have to ask and she'd start another, claiming that she could see why I like it. Plus the Dr. Who references helped a bunch - before we saw the show I mentioned Dr. Whooves and she was about 20% more interested. Thank you, Dr. Whooves.

The third was actually unintentional. She watched me on deviantART but had zero interest in ponies - she only watched because I was a friend. I don't even know why, maybe the pony art I made hooked her or she was just curious, but one day out of the blue she contacted me and confided that she was now a fan, thus bringing our friendship MUCH closer because of this unique connection. She is actually on these forums now (*cough* @MoonlitMask *cough*) and has been an amazing friend to me.

Finally the fourth was converted when my friend (the first I converted) and I agreed she needed to watch it. So far she has only seen the pilot episodes but is hooked.

How did YOU get friends to become fans?

I'm not sure if I fully converted anyone, but I have a friend who I showed some videos to and he thought they were pretty cool. Although I don't think he watched any episodes himself.

I know another person who watches the show with her daughter, but she already did that before I mentioned that I like MLP. She does genuinely enjoy the show though.

I gotten two to watch the show.... both are my brothers. Then my big bro got his friends to watch it.

So I'm just going with two.

Maybe two. Both cases are maybe. And it depends on what criteria must be fulfilled before you can call someone a brony.

One is an IRL friend. How do I put this... My IRL friends, especially in my late teenager years could describe me as unrelenting. So when I told one of my close friends about me liking the show, he just had to see for himself. And what do you know, he's grown to like the show as well.

Another one is on the Metroid forums I go to. This person is definitely a green lantern fan and so I showed him a crossover of MLP and Green Lantern -- this one. Well, that got him interested but I haven't heard anything about it since. Heh.

Exactly zero. I'm very reserved about it outside the Internet. My parents don't even know. I don't ever want them to know about it. Or maybe they do know and they just aren't going to bring it up. Anyway I've brought nobody into the fan dom since I'm so reserved about it.

One friend, so far. He has 3 younger sisters, 2 of which are in the target demographic and love the show, despite not getting the Hub Network. I've lend my season 1 and 2 dvd's to the family a while ago. The sisters saw all of Season 1 and 2 that way. My friend on the other hand/hoof he would come over to my place sometimes. He'd only saw the episodes I've decided to show him in addition to this fan-made crossover between Ace Attorney and Friendship is Magic Turnabout Storm video that totals about 9 hours without pausing for clarifying comments to my friends.

He didn't see all the episodes, just the ones I thought were funny, plot-important, or memorable. He has seen Equestria Girls when I lend the Blu-ray to him, though. Hopefully soon, I'll get him caught up to at least how Twilight became Princess, because some other fanmade videos of Ponies acting and singing Disney Songs (My Little Disney) I want to show him contain footage used from Season 4 and I don't want to spoil.

I've converted none.  The following two quotes pretty much sum up why (especially the second one).

None. I make it a point not to even try. If people are going to get into the fandom, they'll do it of their own accord.

None. I don't want to force people to like a show and/or join a fandom. If they want to do so themselves, sure, but I'm not someone to try and get people interested in something - I have done it in the past, and I honestly regret it. It doesn't exactly strenghten my bond with anyone.

Two

Gavin: I showed him an episode and he loved it

William: I didn't even try.....

I haven't even told many of my friends about it. Only my roommate, my brother, and four of my absolute closest friends know about it. And just because they know doesn't mean I talk about MLP with them because they're not bronies..I wish I knew some irl bronies

(edited)

I brought a lot of people into the fandom the first person I did it to was my friend Luke who is now know as PonygamesDerpyHooves and is now the co-leader of Ponygames Guild I brought some old friends who don't talk to me anymore and I went to my half older sister's wedding I utter that I'm a Brony all the sudden I hear her brother and his friends ask me how to join the fandom oh and I converted an ex-Brony back into a Brony

But when I convert people to Bronies I don't mean to do it (except with PonygamesDerpyHooves I purposely converted him he was hating on the show so I tricked him) as for everypony else they just were curious like how I was when I joined but if it wasn't for me they wouldn't of become Bronies

I've brought in one person in my three years as a brony. It's hard to convert people, really...because I was told that I can't "push" people to become bronies. I gotta allow people to convert themselves, let them explore what MLP is all about. If they don't like it, I can't do anything, let alone force them.

No one yet... but I plan to! Or at least, I plan to try to introduce some people (mainly the people I'll be living with when I go back to University this September) to it and at least get them to agree to watching a few episodes. Then it'll just be fingers crossed that they like it and want to watch more.

I don't convert people, as I know not everyone is going to like it. They can get into themselves

I've only gotten one person into the show: my mom.  But that's great because she's the one that has to put up with the ponehs the most - so I'm not subjecting her to something she doesn't like.  Don't think anyone else I know will follow suit lol.  My cousin did say something like, "So, what is the show like, anyway?"  But he immediately followed it up with, "But I'm not gonna be a Brony!!1!"  Lost cause now, methinks. xD

Three.

We were on a school camp and we were in a chalet and we had a TV with sky and they were playing MLP all day on a Chanel. As the closet brony I am I was like "Wat, We should watch it" so I really converted 2 and a half, Two watch the show now and have merchandise (Quicker than ME), 1 kind of watches it occasionally (but he clops :l (thank god I'm not in his class anymore)) and when we had free time they always watch MLP. I'm so proud.
