I'm a HUGE fan of Tolkien. I LOVED Jackson's Lord of the Rings, despite the changes he made. But IMO...Jackson is causing more desolation with his Hobbit TRILOGY than Smaug ever did. He's changed everything but the character's names and the underlying story. He's dragged it out with so much superfluous and unfitting information that has nothing to do with the story just to ramp up the action. Added characters that don't match the time line (Legolas is in the proper timeline, but has no place in the story. I mean characters like Azog [who died before the events of the Hobbit] and his son Bolg [who is only supposed to show up in the Battle of Five Armies]) and created characters for sheer feminism's sake *cough* Tauriel *cough cough* (much like the enlarged role of Arwen, (though hers really did help illustrate the internal struggles of Aragorn along his travels).

What disturbed me the most was the conversation between Bilbo and Smaug. In the book he is invisible the whole time, adding to Smaug's curiosity and inability to find him! In the movie, he mentions Bilbo is wearing something gold and Bilbo for some reason takes it off?? :eww:  Smaug has no control over that Ring!

Sorry. I AM going to see the third one, just to see how much he decides to change the ending as well, but I don't have any good expectations left for the series.

I wish he had just stayed more true to the book and done it in one simple movie, rather than money-grabbing and dragging out this short story into an unnecessary epic. :okiedokielokie:

*End rant

The casting has been pretty good though! I love Dwalin, Fili & Kili

I love The Hobbit trilogy was amazing, but the cliffhangers are so angering because they just end RIGHT THERE!

The Hobbit Part 2's cliffhanger was even worse!!!

i felt like it lacked story.

  • 4 months later...

Jackson changed almost everything in the Hobbit movies. He's no longer a director who cares about his good work, but about the money he can make with that good work.

Why adapt 1 book into 3 movies?

I loved Smaug in the movies, that's pretty much it, but still, Smaug was very inaccurate.

Also, we all know how the last one is going to start, thanks to that stupid cliffhanger of the last one. I already know the story, because as a true Tolkien fan I've read the books and they're fantastic.

I expect better coming from this third movie.

I've recently read the Hobbit and I can assure you that if what happens in the book happens, The Hobbit 3 is going to be ep-ic!

Also to all of you that are complaining about the inaccuracy of the book to the movie, STAHP. I have read the book and I love it, but the movies are fantastic, and as long as the book and the movie tell a good story, i'm cool with it. I actually like the fact that Bilbo took off the ring; it made his conversation with Smaug much more interesting. The reason he took it off was because Sauron was tapping into its power, and Bilbo got overwhelmed. The only movie I was upset about the inconsistency was when I thought they left out the phoenix tear part in the Chamber of Secrets in Harry Potter, but they added it in later so I was cool with that.

I also like Tauriel, she's a good addition, and so is Legolas. I'm glad they made the Hobbit a trilogy; it helps to flesh out the story a lot more.

Seriously, I am rather tired of all of this 'Jackson should of stayed TRUE to the books!' crap. no offense The movies are fine, even amazing if people would stop ranting about how its a trilogy, and let their nostalgia over the book blind them. Just because a movie isn't "true" to the books doesn't mean its bad. Just because a movie made changes to the book to make a story DOESN'T count as a complaint.

Yep! :D Although... I haven't actually watched the 2nd one yet... I should probably get round to doing that soon. It's fine though, I watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy 10 years late so I'll watch the second Hobbit eventually

My level of excitement for this movie greatly exceeds infinity.  I've been a Hobbit fan since I was 6, and in fact that was the book that inspired me to be writer.  I've loved the movies so far, they are great adaptations from the original story, and I cannot WAIT to see the third.  This is the only movie I care to see the midnight premiere of, and I am so FREAKING EXCITED!

Actually, I really dislike the first two hobbit movies that have come out. The first one was fun until they left Bilbo's house, after which I felt like it was a ton of filler content in between action sequences that didn't really add to the story at all. They just sort of wander from one action scene to the next. What was even the overall story for that one? They want to get to their mountain and then the fight some orcs, I guess.

I barely even remember what happens in the second one. They walk some more, something happens in lake town, and eventually they fight Smaug a bit, and then the movie ends abruptly. I remember in the theatre, me and my friend were like' "oh, I guess it's over now?". And I guess golem was in there somewhere.

Here's another thing I dislike about the Hobbit: most of the dwarves are so boring. You've got the main dude, Oakenshield and then that one adviser dwarf. The rest of them don't really have characters that are apparent in the movie. I mean, the only ones that stand out are the fat one and the one that doesn't have a beard, and that's only because they visually stand out. I realize that it's a lot of characters to deal with, but they managed to have all of the Fellowship be interesting characters. Surely they could do better than this.

They shouldn't have stretch it into three movies. I read (and liked) the Hobbit. It does NOT need 9 hours of screen time. It doesn't need to be Lord of the Rings, just let it be it's own movie. Guess it's too late for that, in any case.

So to answer the question, no. I'm not excited for the Hobbit 3

There is a Hobbit Pt. 3?! Where?!

Anywho, I thoroughly enjoyed the first. It was a bit longer than I had of liked, but fairly enjoyable nonetheless!

As for the second.. Hm.. I can't even remember what happens.

But I'd very much like to go and see it when it releases!

I am very, very excited about Hobbit part 3 after first two movies. I loved both of them, they were far from what The Lord of The Rings was, more "childish" (well, "The Hobbit" was book written for Tolkien's children) but awesome in their own ways. I still wonder what it will be like though as I think only part of book left is one big battle and making entire movie based on it would be quite boring (I was reading book many years ago so if I am wrong then please, correct me).
