Which is one of the things that could make it interesting. Imagine if they tried as hard as fallout when it came to detail. Exploring this whole new alien civilization so similar yet so different at the same time. Architecture, literature, food, politics and such. They could get really creative with it all.

Oh I know that. Fallout's detail works because we already know all the details about normal earth, so we can see a real change in the post-apocalyptic earth. There would have to be a game (or several) establishing that level of detail for the normal alien planet before it goes post-apocalyptic so the details actually add to the atmosphere, rather than just being there.

Modern military shooters, especially those where they always put Russia and America against each-other

Giant haunted mansions or towns

Space adventures that don't go to a single planet

A post apocalyptic world

anywhere with giant rats

and worlds where everyone suffers from extreme depression, not having a sense of humour.

A samurai pyromancer? That's a bit overpowered.

  • Voxel games. Minecraft is cool and all, but how many clones do we need? Seriously.

Not all voxel games are bad.

Blockscape is a prime example of a game with immense potential.

Medieval fantasy. Also Zombie apocalypse. Really any apocalypse. And modern military warfare.

Then again I'm really biased. I'm a sci-fi, future-fantasy and cyberpunk junkie.

~military games or so called "simulators"...so over done. I'm looking at you, CoD and BF.

~Similar to above, but Historical shooters, IE stuff set in WW2 era or Nam.

~Games with a Minecraft type setting/clones.Not a single one has been as popular as Minecraft, we don't need more..

~Zombie games. they're almost all the same.

I think that guns are getting a bit overused, sure they are the basis of a lot of game fighting mechanics but then you look at games like mirrors edge where it is more fun without a gun than with one.

That's not a setting though it's a game mechanic. This topic is about settings. ;) Also,Mirrors Edge and a shooter aren't comparable, because they're two different genres of game. People like different genres.

OK everypony, get ready to say this one with me, unless I'm the only person that think this, but New York City.  Pretty much every single movie I see takes place in New York City, why not use a different city like Chicago, Orlando, or even Indianapolis.

What's funny is that a lot of times it's not even New York, it's Toronto or Vancouver pretending to be New York.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm tired of the damn cliche "dark alleyway or dark road" setting for a horror game. Change the setting for a change.

I wanna see a horror game taking place in a normal prison and something happens like all the inmates losing their crap and turning into monsters and you have to survive or SOMETHING new.

Standard medieval type settings. I really hate how every fantasy medieval setting has to use the same boring worlds that "focuses on the characters" to make it interesting.

I want fantastical worlds that aren't even remotely possible. It's not enough to have a dragon or some magic, that stuff is boring as hell. Architecture that boggles the mind, creatures you could never imagine in your wildest dreams, societies that aren't just clones of human society but on a more or less aggressive level.

The only exception I approve of in standard medieval settings if it's played out in a unique way. Usually achieved by a comedic or cartoony artstyle and world.
