movies/tv Why doesn't Arthur have as big a fanbase as FiM?

I love both shows, but it purplexes me that a show like Arthur, which in my opinion teaches a more valuable lesson about friendship than FIM, doesn't have a big fan base.

Probably because he only had a speaking roll in 2 Season 7 episodes, 1 Season 8 episode, 1 Season 11 episode, 1 Season 12 episode and in the Great Discovery.

Poor old engine.

I joke, of course,

Despite not watching Arthur in years, I can see it as a great show with good morals. Although DW is annoying as hell.

Because DW turns off a lot of people

Fun Fact: She she's the source of so much frustration that the show's "wallbangers" page on TVtropes as a folder just for stupid shit revolving around her.

Arthur is about grade schoolers, FiM is about adult ponies.

More than anything I think people just don't find themselves able to relate to Arthur's main characters since they are so young.

Irrelevant yet on-topic trufax: Every time I think of or watch Arthur I start to smell peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Probably because I ate them when I was watching it as a kid.

Irony: The same thing doesn't happen with PB&J Otter.

Bionic Bunny should have had a spinoff show though. :okiedokielokie:

Probably because it's been running for a long time so it's mostly talked about for nostalgia on the internet. Also when it did came out, the internet wasn't exactly the biggest thing so it couldn't really gather a following.

I agree with this, it probably could've been as big as MLP, but because the Internet wasn't as accessible during the peak of its production and popularity, fans weren't able to meet and form a fanbase like this.

In terms of Morals, Arthur cannot be beat, it reached some territory that most kid's shows wouldn't go but still kept it smart.

FIM though has an actual world around it (Arthur is just real life with Anthros) and more of a story in a way.

I may have liked Arthur as a kid, and i may greatly appreciate it's moral compass, but i personally couldn't imagine being a fan of it at my age. I feel like it's written for children much more so than FiM, and that it just isn't as enjoyable on the whole. I have noticed arthur gifs gaining popularity on tumblr though. Could a fandom be emerging?

Probably also worth noting here that i actually did enjoy arthur past the age when i was supposed to like it, along with a number of other childhood shows. I've never been surprised by my place in this fandom, i must say :P

Social media was a major factor in making MLP a popular show with a widespread fandom. During the earlier days of the Internet it was barely existent. Sites such as YouTube and deviantART did not exist, and being able to share videos artwork is an important part of the MLP fandom.
