So, just a question I want your input on.

Are Bronies obsessed with Death/Mortality?

~A lot of brony stuff have characters dying yet death has never been seen/mentioned in MLP:FiM

What are your thoughts?

Death is very commonplace in fiction, and people do tend to exercise their creative liberties.

That being said, you ought to hear the very vocal minority who personally take offense to the word "death".

Well, think about it. theres "Slendermare" based on Slenderman, who represents Death, theres the thousands of OC's that are based on Death, you get where I am going?

It's not just in MLP fictions bro, media in general tend to lean towards the darker side of things, just look at a lot of the movies that are out, and all the shoot em up video games, I mean I like all of those things, but just pointing it out!

This is just people in general.

Every fandom has people dying in their fanfiction and artwork even if the show doesn't feature it, Bronies are going to be no different.

There does need to be a grim reaper pony though, that would be cool.

Take for instance the most popular MLP fanfic out there. Cupcakes. (yes, I'm mentioning Cupcakes) the ENTIRE thing is about Death, and how ponies in the MLP world would react to it. or Smile HD (yes, made by the same person, but it makes my point.) VERY popular, and the whole thing is MLP DEATH. what about Rainbow Factory? Secret Deaths. I've seen fan art on Ifunny with Twilight crying over graves with the other mane6's names written on them. or one where AppleJack pulled out a shotgun because AppleBloom broke her leg. (I really do not know). It just seems to me that the darker side of this fandom is a HUGE part of the fandom.

Yes, the dark side of the fandom is sizable, but only because you're noticing it. The bright and cheery side of the fandom is plenty big.

It just doesn't surprise me because every fandom I've been in has an element obsessed with darker themes.

It depends, alot of grimdark fans are but as for the broader fanbase I highly doubt it. A friend of mine makes a topic asking which pony would be the most likely to commit suicide and it had near universal opposition. Death and other dark topics make some people uncomfortable and there are some in the fandom who use MLP as an escape from that. Of course there are other fanfics that while they may not be grimdark do have death in them as a theme but this dosen't mean that the fans that read or write these are obsessed with death. Death is a very important topic that is present in a lot of media because it is on a lot of peoples minds.

I'm not saying you are saying that the entire fandom is dark, I'm just saying that every fandom has a darker side. Is the Brony's one larger? I don't think so.

I just think that the Brony fanbase is bigger than most cartoon fanbases, at least Internet presence wise, so it's a lot more noticeable.

Well I think everyone is to a certain extent. Myself, I woudnt say Im obsessive with it, but the wonder of it does cross my mind rarely. As for the community specifically, idk. Maybe it is because the community consists of people with similar interests/mindsets for the most part and this group happens to be one interested in the topic of death? Then compared to a normal group, the numbers seem higher. But again, I dont, so this is only my guess. It is interesting though.

I think that most of the time, death in story-lines for fan-fiction is necessary to progress the story or to form a "tear-jerking" moment.

Personally, having nearly experienced death twice, I can comfortably say I do not fear death.

"Time is just an illusionary factoid that all natural things are bound to. It has the power to crumble even the mightiest of mountains into little more than dust, yet if it is an illusion, why is this so? Because people waste a lot of time, only wishing they had more. Little do people realize an inescapable fact: Time governs those who wish they had more of it. By wishing you could use it better, you govern time, and you can get all the time you'll ever need." — Starfall, Quillwaver

Yup, they're all shit smearing emo psychopaths with a hunger for children. Seriously though, what is up with some of you?

Well actually, most people like that are in their 12-14 age ranges and are all a bout strange, weird, scary stuff.

/also....Slenderman doesn't represent death.

I think that it's because of the fact that the show is relatively light and fluffy.  Some fans take that and want twist that into some shocking, darker dimension, because frankly it is easy to get shocks that way.  (Not judging, by the way.  I like some shocking stuff.)

Also I think that there is some part of it that is because there are some themes the show will never give itself the freedom to explore, so that makes a lot of people want to experiment.  That's when you get things that are out there like the Conversion Bureau, or even sadder fics like Simply Rarity, which is not really "dark" but did deal with some depressing themes.

I like killing, but not the way they do. I like to kill in an action packed sense, you know what I mean? Like tearing someones genitals off with my bear hands. That sort of stuff, humorous and badass.

Well the Grimdark side is a big part of the fandom, as is the clop side, As is the liberal SJW side, as is the side that makes silly meme's. What your noticing is that this is a huge internet culture around this show and it multi-faceted and covers all aspects of the human experience thru the show. Sure in the cannon show there's no sex and no violence but that's where humans (who are teens or adults) and our creativity come into play. We make content about ALL aspects of life. Life isn't always pretty but these creations don't damage our fanbase, they are an important part of it.

Anyway's fun quote: "And when I'm lying in my bed / I think about life / And I think about death / And neither one particularly appeals to me"
