That is an obvious yes, Prince Blueblood will become prince blueballs if he keeps treating mares that way and Trenderhoof is kind of a doofus. But one thing I can say about Trenderhoof is that he has seriously good taste in mares, I can't blame him for drooling over Applejack, I was drooling along with him watching that scene but he i still a doofus. And of course Rarity changing herself to be more like Applejack to get his attention while hilarious probably wasn't the wisest decision on her part. Rarity is interesting in finding the stallion of her dreams and there is nothing wrong with that but the question is has she really learned a better approach to doing that? Kind of kind of not, she has learned with Prince Blueblood that just because a stallion appears to be her prince charming dosen't always mean he is going to be and with Trenderhoof that trying to change herself to impress a stallion is not a good idea and probably won't work in the long run. Rarity has a lot going for her though and who knows the very stallion of her dreams could well be somepony she least suspects (and no I don't mean Spike).

For future reference to anybody who wants to argue that Spike is merely infatuated with Rarity, keep in mind that they've known each other for three years at this point. This isn't a John Updike story; Spike has known Rarity long enough to know her as a person/pony and to be aware of her less positive traits. It started with him just thinking she's pretty, but I'm willing to bet that he actually wants to spend time with her because he thinks she's a great friend.

Heck, I'd argue that saying Spike's crush is still mere puppy dog love is a bit insulting to both characters. What, Spike can't have taste? Are you saying there's nothing to like about Rarity besides her beauty, ghoatface?

Okay, maybe it isn't too insulting, but still.

I do believe you're right.  That Rarity will eventually find love where she least expects it.  Probably with a stallion she likes as a friend but never thought of that way, because he is most uncouth.

At least 2 years have passed, due to the passing of two winters in two separate seasons, and seeing as how it appears to be one year per season based on that, I'm combining S3 and S4 into one year.

The show could be under a floating timeline, like the Simpsons. We see no age progression, only character development :D

One problem I see with Rarity is that, whoever she ends up with, he's going to be on the receiving end of alot of nagging, along the lines of "this harness is too tight", etc. Guys generally do not want to be nagged. That might be why Rarity is single. Best case scenario: Rarity realizes how much male attention Fluttershy receives and wonders "what am I doing wrong?", Fluttershy helps Rarity gain the best traits of her own personality, boom. Rarity wins.

Regarding the "gold digger" thing mentioned: I don't think she's a gold digger. She just doesn't want to marry someone classless. "No Scrubs" by TLC is practically her theme song. Too bad she hasn't realized money can't buy class.

A pre-adolescent (and even young-adolescent) puppy-crush can last for years. I should know. Doesn't stop it from being a puppy-crush. Often those develop into a deep adoration and respect, while the romantic aspect fades into the background. I can see that happening with Spike. He obviously still wants to impress Rarity, he looks up to her and enjoys her approval... But I think he's starting to realise that there's not going to be a romance there. Course, when someone you look up to that much compliments you, you're still going to blush and respond a little goofily. And he very much values the friendship they have, and being her 'favourite dragon'. It's sweet, realistic and very heart-warming.

I simply cannot picture Rarity pairing up with anyone younger than her; dragon, stallion or otherwise. She needs someone more mature than she is, not less. Someone calm who can make her laugh, who will temper her tendency to dramatise everything, and who she actually looks up to. She's also very dominant; a partner will need to meet her halfway. Having been the dominant personality in a relationship with someone who acquiesces to nearly everything, I can say from experience - it's dull. One personality just tramples the other, and a good relationship is all about balance. (And yes, sorry to say but age plays a role in personality development.)

(Speaking of time-frames, since no pony, including little ones like the Crusaders, seems to age in this show, I'm going to say that I doubt there's a genuine time frame. If anything, I'd say 2 years at most. If the Crusaders get their cutie marks next season, I'll concede an extra year.)

@@NomDeSpite, if Rarity changes her own personality to suit a potential mate, she hasn't won anything, and she's lost a great deal. Annoying personality traits can be tempered, but suppressing them completely will only ever lead to misery. Instead, I'd suggest she find a stallion who doesn't mind her nagging, or who deflects it with humour. Or who doesn't exhibit traits she needs to nag him about. Why settle for someone who doesn't suit you?

Also, I've met some horrendously whiny men. It's not just women who nag. Ugh. Believe me.

Expanding on that, while she may "nag" from time to time, it makes up a small percentage of her dialogue. That being said, it can be safe to assume that, even though she can be a bit whiny, she'd do a LOT more than just nag in a relationship. Furthermore, no, she shouldn't change who she is for a dude. Didn't "Simple Ways" teach her that lesson? :D

I doubt the part with the nagging, sure she is going to have a bad day sometimes, but the "this harness is too tight" stuff was just a deliberate act to trick the diamond dogs. Rarity does not whine that much, at least not targeted at other ponies, she rather has her "woe is me" drama fits.

And how is Fluttershy getting more attention from stallions? I don't remember any of that.

Yeahh...only example I can think of is "Green Isn't Your Color," which wasn't as much attention from stallions as it was showing she had enough natural grace to be a model :D

I don't quite get that either

Yeah the stallions she goes for usually end up being jerks. I guess it really is what's on the inside that counts.

Now I don't really think Thunderlane since I find the hug as just a reaction to her life being saved. Who knows Rarity might find the perfect stallion *coughFancypantscough*.

Correct. And that's all I'm suggesting.

Nobody's perfect. If someone has a bad personality trait, of course they should change it or manage it somehow.

And how is Fluttershy getting more attention from stallions?

Well, it hasn't happened in the show but just look at any Mane Six popularity poll. Fluttershy is always either 2nd or 1st.

Alright, jokes (?) aside, I agree that the stallions she ends up chasing end up being major tools; however, there's a lot of dudes who are total tools :muffins: She'll find the right one (  B) ) eventually, because she's just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside, and you can't ask for much more than that :D

It's been established in "Green Isn't Your Color" that Rarity is jealous of Fluttershy sometimes. But for all I know, in the show, all of the Mane Six are going to stay single, because Hasbro and the writers say so.

Is it really surprising, considering the state of gender roles and stereotyping in todays world, that a popularity poll voted in by a male majority would favour a shy, docile, submissive pony? Because I'm not surprised by it.

And before anyone brings up Rainbow Dash, everyone likes her because her personality pegs her as 'one of the boys'. Rarity is an ultra-fiminine, very assertive pony, and so she struggles in the popularity polls.

She doesn't need to, and shouldn't, deliberately change anything about herself.

That and "nagging" isn't always done simply to control, humiliate or berate men although there is nagging which indeed fits that description which although Rarity will be guilty of from time to time it probably won't be as exaggerated as it was in the episode A Dog And Pony Show where she way playing it up to manipulate her captives so she can escape. My Mom for example can be a major nag sometimes but she does it because she cares about me and wants me to be happy and healthy.

It was implied to be Rarity as the line you quoted me on pertained to Rarity "not needing to change." It's nearly impossible to see it any other way as being about Rarity. If that's the case and all you can provide is "Just stating a general principle," your argument holds no water on this subject.

It's been established in "Green Isn't Your Color" that Rarity is jealous of Fluttershy sometimes.

No, that was just in one episode, and that was worked out in the end; there are no other instances of Rarity displaying jealousy towards Fluttershy, so "jealous of Fluttershy sometimes" is incorrect.

Again, there's been no other instances of Rarity displaying jealousy towards Fluttershy other than in the said episode, and given they worked it all out by the end of the episode + no signs of jealousy towards Fluttershy being displayed by Rarity after the aforementioned episode, it's safe to say there's no longer any jealousy between the two.

I think that Rarity is eventually going to fall for her caterer.  In control, but content to be invisible.  Important, but not self-important.  Passionate about his craft, but in a completely different discipline.  And he'll probably make sure that she doesn't starve while on a creative binge.

Todays society seems to see femininity as weak and wrong. But being feminine has nothing to do with that, one can be feminine and a very stong and capable person. Does not matter if you are a feminine woman or man. There is nothing wrong with being girly.

Rarity does a very good job at showing that, i feel.

And for the popularity polls... well, Rares certainly managed to climb to the top of mine without problems... I just like her stong, capable and artistic as she is...

Wrong on both statements. Just because we're discussing Rarity doesn't mean the principle I described can't also be applied to Pinkie Pie's negative personality traits, Spike's negative personality traits, or the personality traits of real humans. Just say "Yes". It's alot easier.

Perhaps, but it certainly speaks to larger societal implications as a whole. I'm positive that I do not need to spell these out.

You may not see anything wrong with it, but as a woman whose personality is very much like Rarity's, it's tiresome being considered 'emasculating' and being told that I should 'soften' my personality to appeal to men. This happens to me with annoying regularity. Since you just implied Rarity should do the same about her nagging, I'll concede that I'm taking a slight personal umbrage.

We're off topic, however.
