What makes this worse, though, is that you ask such a horribly negative and dark question (which makes you sound like an anti-American from a different country) and yet you don't even put what country you're FROM!

 

Seriously, dude... It may or may not happen, but I like to personally live in the now, and not worry about the distant future. If I asked this about any other country, I'd be labeled racist or whatever because I'm American. There's a huge double standard, but I'm calling out on it. Stop being so negative.

I won't be sad if it dies out; I don't like this country (and yes, I'm an American. I would be out by now if immigration laws weren't so freakin' strict!)

 

But yeah, I doubt it will collapse anytime soon. It's possible for the future, but it will take awhile to get there. I think it's more likely for another country to have a larger economy.

I don't want to see the country collapse and maybe that's part of what this community is here for to bring back the love and compassion we once had for each other. Don't get me wrong we have a dark past also but let's face it once upon a time there wasn't a need for daycare centers or food banks we took care of the people within our community.

Well we are a young nation for one thing, so I think there's no need to worry about it in the immediate future. Japan, Egypt, China, these countries have existed for thousands of years. And even if Rome "fell" it's cultural influence still pervades to this day.

 

So I think it's less about us "dying out" as much as it is about us staying relevant. We live in an increasingly globalized world. Nations no longer regard one another as entirely different species like they have in the past. As a country that already embraces and accepts universal human rights, I think even if we cease to be as a political actor, our cultural identity will endure for quite some time.

Oh no I don't think over seas employment is bad, but when the country your having everything made in is counterfeiting all your goods and costing you millions of dollars it makes you wonder when they will wake up. I am a big business guy, we'll I should say I am a common sense business guy. I'll defend a big business or small business when they are right and point out when they screw up. I understand why they go over seas, business isn't an easy game and honestly anyone who complains about them making products somewhere else needs to look in the mirror. The consumer is what drives all this. If Tony's widget company makes all his product here and let's say acme widget company makes all there stuff over seas. If the consumer isn't willing to pay extra for American made and Tony's widget sales are in the toilet how long do people think he can hold out.

Let's see according to my calculations it will occur between the release of Transformers 4 and Transformers 5. That's right Michael Bay movies will destroy America.

 

Okay back to dead serious, if I had to guess sometime in the next 30-50 years. Likely the Union will decline and several confederations and federations of various states will become their own country. Now one group may identify itself as "Americans" much like the Byzantines identified themselves as "Romans". Generally speaking a country ( with the same government/ regime ) lasts about 300 years max, it seems. So the US has had a good run I'd say.

 

If you think I'm being unrealistic, just look up the sections about "Signs of a failing State" in your old Chinese strategy manuals, and then compare with history ( especially the decline of Rome ).

I mean, China has several powerful dynasties that collapsed, with each one collapsing and creating another. The United States can't last forever, but I hope that at the least it's purpose doesn't die out someplace else.

But it will not be the end of the world, everyone fends for them selves collapse that TV always portrays. It will happen slowly, you will notice people will work less and less, food will become more and more rare, housing will grow continuously smaller and darker, until there is no America anymore, just an endless waste of poverty.

Well I think it depends on what you define your country as. Is it just an economic/military/political entity? Is it the borders you draw on a map? Or is it the spirit and ideals you carry in your heart, no matter where you go or from where you come?

Just to point out; the government and regimes of those "countries" you have mentioned have changed greatly, roughly at about the 300 year mark. In our context, if America had a war among itself resulting in a President that drafted a new constitution and governed for 30 years before selecting a successor, I would not call that America as founded in 1776. Thus a different country, although "America" it would still be called. Same situation with Japan (power going back and forth between different Emperors and Shogun ) , China ( Dynasties galore ), Egypt ( Dynasties, Sultans, and plenty others ), and countless others throughout time, and let's not talk about how many times the government was overhauled in France during the 1800's.

 

I'm not insulting any country, just pointing out that when one speaks of nations throughout time, you are not necessarily talking about the same country; Example: Which Egypt? Old Kingdom, New Kingdom, Ptolemy dynasty, Ottoman Egypt, or it's current Modern Day form? And even that is a very short list for a single country, especially in the case of Egypt.
