"Oh No! The fandom is gonna end!".... relax!

Uhm. I have to disagree. Fandoms can live on much longer than one can think. There are people in fandoms that are from show from the 80's still around. It's not 'dying'. And it won't 'die' until everyone in it loses interest. And that's pretty hard to believe that will happen. And even still there will still be new fans to keep it growing. Fandoms never really fully die. They just shrink in size. Why show, game, movie, anime, comic, manga and whatever can have a fandom and every fandom can grow to massive size if fans spread out enough and introduce others to it. So yeah. It's not dying. It's just shrinking. And when the show ends it won't die. There just won't be new material to work with. So fans can create even more new material. New fanimations, fan episodes all of that to show what they wish could've happened. Don't think so negatively. It'll just push you off into thinking it's going to die age you'll never see from my again. She thinong that way is ridiculous. Of course it'll end. By why should the fandom and just because the show ends.

You might some numbers but

the love of the show will

keep going on in a lot of ways!

Look at a lot of fandoms with

shows that so called ended: Danny Phantom, Samurai Jack

just to name a few and also in the anime branch of things!

I don't think the fandom is in any danger of ending any time soon. Who knows after G4 they might make a G5 and it could also be good.

Fandoms can last a long time, heck look at the Star Trek fandom, I think its almost 50 years old now, no reason we can't last that long.

I don't think fandoms truly ever die out.  Whenever the show ends, I think they'll still be communities around keeping the dream alive.  It most certainly will shrink and will be less prominent than the first couple of years, but will it all end?  Probably not.

I doubt it. The fandom will live on.

Just look at Star Wars and Star Trek.even after years of no movies/series, they were still going strong as fandoms. Even The Doctor Who fandom, which has also grown recently due to the new series.

Hell, I know there's still a Lion King Fandom, Red Wall Fandom, and other similar fandoms. All of which have had no new material for years now.But they're still going, there's still fanart being made of it, there's still forums dedicated to them.

Nah, the fandom is fine. Fandoms persist their source material all the time, I don't see why one of the most pervasive and internet-centric ones would suddenly snuff out just because the show has ended. Besides, a good chunk of us will pick up the inevitable Gen 5 if it is any good, so there's even more chance that the pony train will keep a-rollin'.

i just realized that the fandom will end after/if the show ends. Since only five more years of the show is confirmed (5 more seasons), what will this mean for the fandom?

PS: Mods, if this post should be in a different place, feel free to move it.

If the Star Trek Fandom can grow and continue after TOS got cancelled I think the Brony fandom will live on.

Not afraid too admit Ponies are sexy.

There are plenty of fandoms of discontinued shows that are alive and well. One off of the top of my head is The Andy Griffith Show. I can imagine the brony  fandom will keep going strong for a long time.

Actually it was only confirmed that the MLP brand was renewed for 5 years. Not necessarily the show.

So hopefully the the show will only go on for to two more years, instead of five.

Also the fanbase will likely still be around after the show's over.

Highlander still has a large and fairly dedicated fandom(even if you have to look for it because they keep to themselves about it) even though there hasn't been a decent entry in the franchise since 2001, I think we'll manage.

See Earthbound, Harry Potter, Invader Zim, Avatar, retro gaming, etc.

Think also Battlestar Galactica. The original show ended after one season in 1978, and not counting that 1980 show, there was a fan base that lasted towards the creation of the reimagined series in the early to mid-2000s.

If a sci-fi show that was never as popular as the likes of Star Wars, Star Trek, and maybe Babylon 5 & StarGate can have a decent-sized fandom that can last THAT long, I think the FiM fandom will be good. :)

I hope that gen 5 will be good too. It may seem a bit weird at first, but we might enjoy it. Lets just hope they can hire good writers.

Fandoms end as soon as the related show stops airing? That is one nice theory, albeit a very pessimistic one

It's way too early to predict anything like this. Too many things can happen in the span of five years. Even with those chucklebrains regularly shouting that the show had jumped the gun after each new episode, MLP has proven itself to be quite a long-lasying money-printing franchise, even before FiM

I'm getting a sense of déjà vu. It feels like I've posted in topics like this before, call it a hunch. :P

Anyways, even if the show ends, the fans' love for the characters and what it has brought to their lives will grow strong for many years to come.

The show isn't just a part of a routine every week, it sprouts inspiration, creativity, friendliness, it brings people together from all over with a mutual love for multicolored ponies with tattooed behinds and brings out the friendship and kindness in everyone. This will live on for years after the show is finished. Some will leave, others will stay, but everyone will always remember the moment they watched and loved a show that has changed so many peoples' lives all over the globe.
