Jamaican Jam 112 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 (edited) Seeing how people overreact to anything sexual as if WWIII were to happen, it'll NEVER happen nowadays in a cartoon for kids about ponies. Also, just because a girl does male related things like playing video games (like my sister does) doesn't make her a lesbian. I remember when my mom told me that when my sister was in like 1st or 2nd grade, the teachers thought something was wrong with my sister just because she wasn't THAT interested in girl things and mainly hang out with boys (she was more comfortable around boys since I have two older brothers). Magpie 623 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 I think your missing some stuff there. That's nothing concrete. All we know is that she is attracted to males. She could be bisexual, pansexual, heterosexual, demisexual, etc.

Ziggy + Angel + Rain 11,303 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 I've imagined RD being in romantic relationships with other female ponies (and even authored one fanfiction of that nature), but I'm not looking for a canon reveal of her sexuality. All manner of things can and do go on inside of my head (and are just harmless imaginings), but I actually prefer that the show doesn't attempt to pair her up with anyone / try to establish her sexuality for good and all. If they did, though, it had better involve Pinkie Pie. Perhaps, one day, sexuality won't be regarded as such a big deal, and it won't be this potentially huge, fanbase-devouring "scandal" to imply a relationship between two mares or two stallions. Or, um... You know - non-ponies, also. xD 1 "It uses the faculty of what you call imagination. But that does not mean making things up. It is a form of seeing." - from "The Amber Spyglass"
Forlong 1,726 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 ...one of the things I like about MLP is that I can enjoy a show with a mostly female cast with out thinking about sex at any point. Nah, to easy. Anyway, on topic, I don't think Rainbow Dash is gay. Most claims on her being gay are based on stereotypes and a complete lack of understanding of the psychology of homosexuality. I don't think she is, because she doesn't show any of the other common psychological issues that come with homosexuality. That is purely circumstantial, of course. LED Dasher 228 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 I never considered Rainbow Dash to be gay. Some people mention that she has short hair, but if you look at her humanoid form in Equestria Girls, her hair is quite long. I've never associated rainbows and tomboyish personalities with homosexuality anyways. I wouldn't mind if Hasbro decided to cover her sexuality in the show, but it's not likely since there is not much incentive to do so.
Pastel 7,630 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 I've never thought she was gay neither. I'm sure she's straight, honestly it would be kinda weird if suddenly, she has a crush on a mare (I have nothing against homosexuality, but showing this in the show would be strange, why would they do that?). I don't think the writers will ever do that.
IridscentNionios 1,420 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 Hearing that having Rainbow Dash appear lesbian would help the LGBT community get children to accept homosexuality is one reason i want to shoot myself whenever people call Rainbow Dash lesbian. Envy 6,232 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 Rainbow Dash's sexuality is simply irrelevant. It has nothing to do with her character. 4 Everything needs more woodwind!
joecal97 340 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 (edited) I don't care if she's straight or gay/lesbian (or both) she's awesome and I love her the way she is (non sexually ) Hasbro shouldn't and wouldn't dare bring that type of thing into a kids show, it's a hoof too far! Arctic Night 884 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 Rainbow Dash's sexuality is simply irrelevant. It has nothing to do with her character. Exactly. The most that they could do would be to have Rainbow Dash have some kind of crush on one of the Wonderbolts for one episode. It wouldn't make much of difference to her character at all. Hearing that having Rainbow Dash appear lesbian would help the LGBT community get children to accept homosexuality is one reason i want to shoot myself whenever people call Rainbow Dash lesbian. I'll assume that you have stronger reasoning than that. Sig made by Kyoshi. Cool things people have said about me: Never heard of him but I guess just you mentioning him is a good reason not to go anywhere near that name. (In reference to an author I suggested.) pony.colin 156 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 (edited) I think it would be great for this show, or other kids' show to have a couple gay characters people can take seriously(I remember Sailor Moon having a lesbian couple that was handled very well). That said, Rainbow Dash shouldn't be it, as it would come off as a shallow to a lot of people. I'd much rather they have a new character or us a different character(one who hasn't had their sexuality revealed) That is of course if the writers actually wants to include romance and sexuality, which I highly doubt It would be nice if the writers ever introduced a gay/lesbian character that can be taken seriously, has to be done in a clever or good way. Though I think Sailor Moon was geared more towards older adolescents so it could get away with it easier. And yeah, I agree it would come off as a cop out if RD ends up being the one used to represent. My own attitude if they chose Dash for it, I'd be okay with it either way, I just expect an over the top uproar if it did happen, cause drama. But, still hinges on the problem of well, the fact it's a kids show and Hasbro is probably never going to want to venture that far with their IP, it's always the play it safe route. I don't even want to see a school yard crush, but that might be going a bit extreme. We already have those in the show. Unless you're referring to same-sex crushes? That one, as an example (also from SolidTwilight's post) Also, for one of the longest running crushes for this whole series (one in which I think he finally got over during this season, near the end) - Spike and Rarity, was always a crush.
HeroSparks 232 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 It honestly makes no difference to me. That being said, I don't think they should do anything about it in the show either. Nothing against the LGBT community, I just don't think such a controversial topic should be covered in a show that's very light and fun When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree next to the river of truth, and tell the whole world"No, you move." Nerdy Luigi 2,065 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 There hasn't. But I don't think the sexuality of Rainbow Dash really matters. Particularly in a series like this, as part of a kid's show.

Truffles 2,033 May 28, 2014 Share May 28, 2014 Flutterdash is real, at least in the minds of the animators; which means RD is at the very least bi-curious for one mare. Will there ever be anything more overt than these hints? Probably not. ... ... But then again I never expected Trenderhoof's AJ-BJ fantasy, either! Are you a Spike fan? Singe 2,111 May 28, 2014 Share May 28, 2014 (edited) Girl oriented cartoons get way more leeway on love, emotion, bonding, and relationships compared to boy oriented cartoons. Girls can easily hug other girls. Girls can kiss each other on the cheek or lips. Girls can openly say they love each other. A gay/lesbian relationship would also have to imply a sexual orientation, which this show doesn't openly talk about sex anyway. The emotional relationship aspect can be done through brotherhood and sisterhood label bonding. Edited May 28, 2014 by Singe
Silver Letter 1,832 May 28, 2014 Share May 28, 2014 We have no indication of any of the characters' sexuality if it exists at all in the show although the concept of romance comes into play from time to time (Prince Blueblood, Hearts and Hooves Day, Equestria Girls subplot...). If I were to guess as to Dash's sexuality, I would guess a more fluid one perhaps. As to those that didn't know that Dash was even a mare, I would point out that she has that character model so I can't understand the confusion. Silver Letter!!! Rainblow H. Ash 5,091 May 28, 2014 Share May 28, 2014 I could actually picture Rainbow Dash saying "I'm actually only one sexuality... Rainbow Dashsexual. Because let's face it: I'm the only pony cool enough for me!" But if I was being serious, I honestly don't care about any of the characters sexualities when it actually comes to the show. I can see what some folks are saying that for Rainbow Dash to be a lesbian would seem very stereotypical, but I honestly wouldn't care either way. As long as she's still awesome, I'll be fine. Just don't expect something like that to ever actually be covered on the show. Hasbro would probably rather put humans on the show before they ever touch the fiery topic of sexuality on the show. 2 #bringbackmerriwetherwillaims
