Did Shining Armor mean his words?

in Canterlot Wedding, do you think Shining Armor meant his words when he berated twilight and stripped her of her best mare status? He DID get one of those quote-unquote "migraines" just before he ranted at her. so, do you think he meant it, or was it Chrysalis putting words in his mouth?

I think it was from all of the stress that he had, when trying to keep things safe before the wedding. Shining must regret what he said to Twilight though.

I think it wasn't so much Chrysalis. I'm sure she played some part, but that was mostly just making him love her more blindly. The stress of having a wedding during a heavy threat, having to power the shield, and having to put up with those migraines, all would have melded into one big festering ball of frustration.

Weddings are massive events, even without the fantasy side-bits. You will be frustrated. Things will go wrong. You may not even have everything done by the end(pro-tip, if a bride/groom to be needs your help, don't hesitate). I don't blame him for snapping.

That in mind, he may have meant it at the time, but without a doubt he regretted it after the ordeal, and certainly takes it back.

He totally meant it. Ever since Twilight spilled juice all over him in front of his friends on his 8th birthday party, he's had it out for that mare. :o

Nah, that stallion was under a ton of stress. Keeping that force field up constantly, worrying about the long-term commitment he was making, and having an evil changeling queen rustle through your mind can do that to a pony. ;)

Well, imagine you are getting married and someone close to you keeps making accusations about you're soon to be spouse whom you love more than anything.

I think that I would be more than a little irritated, so I believe he meant it at the time since he believed Twilight was talking smack about his waifu due to jealousy, but after he found out she was an imposter, he probably felt pretty bad about it.

Stress was the cause and also probably cause of Queen Chrysalis's possession. I don't think he meant any of the words spoken to his sister, sometimes siblings get in arguments and say things they don't mean, it's happened with me and my older brother especially when we were younger.

On top of the whole "he was just stressed" thing everyone keeps bringing up, I have to say it wasn't just stress; Twilight did kind of insult the woman he thought was his bride-to-be. I'd be pretty upset if I were in my right mind which, sad for me to say, I'm pretty sure he was. And even if Twilight turned out to be wrong, I'd like to think of Shining Armor as the kind of brother who'd reconsider letting her back after giving her some time to think about what she'd done.

And for all those fanfic writers who like to tear him a new one for making Twilight think their friendship was over, using Cadance as some kind of mouthpiece to tell him, "You said I'd be getting an awesome sister if I married you! I thought you loved me! The wedding is off!", and those who read it and say, "Yes, this is what should have happened, that bastard needed to pay and those so-called friends of hers need to pay this is so good and deep and emotional and everyone should read it like omg take notes dhx aaaarrgh" I have to say, STOP. Yes, Twilight turned out to be right about the impostor. Yes, I hate watching this scene and I cringe every time I see a mere thumbnail of it. But I fully believe Shining Armor and her friends' reaction was justified. Twilight went about her accusations the wrong way, raving like some kind of lunatic and presenting no circumstantial evidence backing her claims. It was a miscommunication, and Twilight was not completely blameless for it. So while many of us feel ill just thinking about the scene, reading some story that was slapped together in the heat of that anger makes me feel even worse.

I wish the episode turned out differently the way it did, and I wish there was much more closure to their confrontation, but what happened, happened. We can only find ways to reconcile it in our minds, just like Twilight, her brother, and her friends did in the end. And if that means piling fighting on top of fighting, more power to you; just keep that interpretation far away from me.

He did not mean it and unfortunately, lots of fanfics have siezed this to make him look evil. Faith and Doubt in particular does this really badly with him. They make out Twilight to be blameless and everyone else to be evil
