  1. If the simple thought of someone hosting a website where artists can freely upload their songs without quality control offends someone so much they quit music all togheter I can't help but not feel any sympathy what so ever. Having Pony.fm be open to everypony who want to share some tunes is awesome and something that is needed since the main alternatives are pretty elitistic and nasty about lesser known artists it seems, no matter the quality.
  2. You know, it feels kind of unsafe asking for advice when every 10 or so thread in the Life Advice section is about beating people up "because they deserve it" <_<

  3. So is this thing still happening or? If so, can I contribute with a song or two for consideration?
  4. I am pretty sure the current "Orchestral" category also covers Classical music in general. A bit confusing but hopefully that will do, and somepony correct me if I got this wrong
  5. Can I ask if you have figured out who will be in this judge panel? Do you have people who understand a wide specter of different genres so we avoid the EDM-fest that is the Equestria Daily featured songs? (not saying no EDM, but more variation within the EDM and Dubstep and trying to make all genres equal, just to clarify) Also I must say I kind of like the current system better in that it just pops up random songs people are listening to at the moment, makes for a more of a "explore new cool songs" feel than a "here are some tracks, they are probably good but you won't see any more until the judges deem them good enough" one, which could also lead to less browsing of the main library as people would just go listen to the permanent featured tracks and avoid everything else I fear. I hope I am wrong. Just don't want this tool of musical exploration to be more of a museum for a few selected tracks a small minority deem good enough basically.
  6. This happened to me as well, though when downloading a album as MP3. There is only the 2 first songs in the ZIP file, and when I open it in Winrar I get a error message saying "Unexpected end of archive".
  7. "Progressive" is now a genre on Pony.fm! I would recommend for everyone who have made Progressive songs to relabel them as such now instead of Experimental, Rock or Other or whatever so I don't feel alone with only my songs there =P

  8. Perhaps rename "Downtempo" to "Downtempo / Ambient" would be the best choice?
  9. When sharing a song from Pony.fm on Tumblr, on the dashboard it appears as a video file for some reason, and you have to press the play button on said video screen before the actual song player shows up. Not a big deal, and it doesn't seem to be a issue on the actual blog pages, but thought I would mention it anyways.
  10. What Freewave said, also artists like Tarby goes into Prog at times: Other world famous Prog bands include Rush, Kansas, Dream Theater, Jethro Tull, Genesis and Tool just to have mentioned those.
  11. So when trying to upload a track to Pony.fm that I finished today, it says "The release date must be a date before today". I finished up this track today, and therefor I want to label it as such. Why is this restriction here? I can understand stopping you from entering the date of a day that hasn't come yet, but today is today, it exists, and it's possible to finish up musical pieces on this day as with any day obviously.
  12. Oh dear, please not those, anything but those. I would much prefer to have the "click the picture of X pony to proceed" thing myself at least
  13. I wondered if there was any way to see how many people have Favorited your songs anywhere, and if not perhaps make it a feature? It don't need to be publicly displayed or anything, but could be fun to have a overview of it for yourself and to see who favorited it and such Also I am sorry for banging on about this, but any more talk about adding a Prog genre to the site? More well known artists such as Tarby goes into it from time to time so it's not like I am the only one who makes Prog-ish stuff and would be cool to have the door open for any future musicians lol
  14. I am very sorry but I think you are misunderstanding my thread's intent. I am asking for the Pony.fm site to have it's own category for Prog music seeing how I already have a bunch of songs uploaded that I consider Prog in various forms and that it would give a easy categorization choice for any future musicians who would like to put up Prog songs. Sorry for the disappointment this fact probably makes for you =/ You should make a song thread for posting Prog songs in wherever one would do that on this forum though, would always be a good thing to have even if it wouldn't be the most active thread perhaps
  15. Hi, sorry for the bump but I wondered if there had been any more consideration of this?
  16. I think if someone end up having to convert their MP3 to WAV it's most likely due to not having WAV's available due to data loss or such, so not so sure this will be the best idea.
  17. Not all bronies are all sunshine and harmony though sadly, and biased music fans exists everywhere. I can understand rating for the sake of a "best of" list, but the problem with that is that it would discourage people to listen to things that are not highly rated even if said music might be just as good as the top rated stuff. It's all very very subjective after all. Perhaps counting how many people favorite a track to make a "best of" list instead without having a rating system could work though? Might still be discouraging to musical exploration so I am not for it myself, but I could see it work as a compromise in that it won't leave new and strange musicians with negativity and no motivation while still having a ranking of the tracks people think are the best. Or if we do end up with a rating system, I really think there should be some proper fail safes in place to make sure it at least won't be random bile. Perhaps having to add a 500 character review following certain guidelines along with the rating and having admins check if it's actually meant to be constructive or not.
  18. It would quickly devolve into biased fans down voting all the Metal and Dubstep tracks with a flood of 1-stars me thinks, so I don't think it's a very good idea. Also what CloudFyre said
  19. Hello there, I like you art style and I wondered if you would perhaps be okay with drawing a picture of my OC pony for me whenever you get the time? Preferably in 1366 x 768 but not necessary by any means Here is a full body view of her - http://24.media.tumblr.com/fc2c2984a9c1702523f769dfe1e22b8f/tumblr_mmw0dazvNN1s37s4mo1_500.png I would like her to stand on her hind legs with her wings out in a similar pose to this - http://hdwallpapersbase.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/the_elder_scrolls_v_skyrim-wallpaper.jpg If you manage to make it so she is holding either a lyre or a typical norse sword (or both with one in each hand) and perhaps some cooler looking viking armor it would be pretty cool too hehe, but yeah wont ask too much of you seeing how you already got so many requests and everything. As for colors as you mentioned, as long as it fits with a medieval fantasy viking theme its all good for me hehe
  20. Hello there, I am new to the site so not sure if I have enough cred to be asking for any art things yet, but if you would be okay with it could you draw my OC when you are done with your current requests? Seeing how she is half dragon I guess she could be tricky to draw, but if you managed to do so I would have appreciated it =) http://24.media.tumblr.com/fc2c2984a9c1702523f769dfe1e22b8f/tumblr_mmw0dazvNN1s37s4mo1_500.png
  21. Oh I forgot to mention, I can also do mixing and producing if needed, have been working as an apparentice in a local studio for a while now and even if I don't have all those programs they have there I have the knowledge and programs to probably get a good enough mix done =)
  22. Thanks hehe, and alright just tell me what way we will be communicating and sharing files and such once the project is starting up and send me a invite to that
  23. Hmm I don't have any recordings I am all that happy with honestly, but I made this one without warmup last October so you might get a idea from it (the real vocals start at 1:09, yay for minute long intro's): Pretty sure I can do better with warmup and I now have better understanding of how to mix vocals too. I also like to play around with special effects on my vocals so that might be useful to help create some cool sounds here and there.
  24. Don't know if this have been covered yet, but some small notes that I find usefull: 1. Reverb is your friend. Use a lot of reverb on instruments that would otherwise sound "fake" unless that is the sound you are going for. This is especialy useful on programed piano, drums and any other typical organic sounding instrument as well as vocals. 2. Clipping is bad unless you do it on purpose. To avoid it, be sure to reduce the master volume or instrument volumes to make sure the master volume never hits the upper red parts (goes over -0dcb). Having a master limiter on top of it all and adjusting it to never let the volume go over -0.1dcb can work too as long as you make sure the master volume itself isn't too loud, or it could sound muffled. 3. Panning and effects are useful. If you have a guitar in your track a common trick is to copy it into 2 parts and then pan each part into each speaker, making more room for the dynamics at play. If anything sounds "off", adjusting the signals in a Equalizer (EQ) can help you morph the sound of the track in the way you want. Very basic stuff so you probably know it already, but yeah just thought I would pop in and mention it just in case. Best of wishes with the music producing!
