  1. @@MDLineArt,

Good post ya did. ^^ Had an hour and made you a reply, though unfortunately I don't have more time to get the rest done until tonight. :/ But in any case, have fun with this, and a minor thing to remember: Likely others like Florence have their wings tied up to prevent them from sneaking out and flying off, so take that into account for the little longer the cultist are a problem. :)

  2. @@MDLineArt,

    Disturbing...

That was the first word that entered Giddon's mind as Bashful had started to hum his little song and just move along. Considering how he had been before and how much calmer he seemed it should be a relief, but there was a little voice in the back of his head telling him to be on guard instead. Perhaps it was just paranoia, but a sudden change in personality like that just seemed unnerving to him.

Though it wasn't something he had the chance to think about for long as they rounded a corner and were faced with the beginning of the end: The caged prisoners.

The sight were sickening. Earth ponies and pegasi alike, physically and mentally malnourished whilst a cultist preaches to them, passing along the words that would stick with them as they would be gathered under the artefact and converted to their ranks.

It was the effect he had read up on would happen from those under the influence of the Spine of Zinthar, so he knew what they might be faced with. Yet, knowing were not the same as being ready for seeing the scared looks in their eyes and the monotone words of the cultist babble on and on, completing the last stages of the transition from breaking their spirits to forcing the artefact upon them so they too would end up like him. Just like the artefact had done twice before from what he had found, and if myths were true, what Zinthar himself had once been up to before he were defeated.

Something that had gone on for far too long for his taste. And as it seemed to turn out, for Bashful's too.

The gryphon raised an eyebrow in disbelief when he saw the changeling in disguise pounce on the preaching cultist and drag him slightly away to - hopefully - incapacitate him for a little while. He had been sure that he had needed to do this himself, yet now the tailor had taken that part into his own hooves, leaving him with the task of shaking off the chains whilst Bashful came back - yet again draped in the larger guard form that he had taken whilst they flew here - and began to free the prisoners.

The sight caused him pause. To see the ones who had thought they were lost suddenly find light again, and having the spark of hope reignited in their beings whilst they gazed upon their saviour with thankful eyes... The feeling that should go over Bashful with every small thank you and blessing from those who now finally had a hero to save them...

For a moment, he didn't see what happened in front of him, but instead a scene from a time gone by where talons had tirelessly tried to tear away chains and fight off the oppressors amidst the begging voices of those in need, fuelled by a fire that led to the moment when the lock finally clicked and they realised they were saved. When they would look at their saviour with the glimmer that made the one helping them realise why he bothered.

His metallic arm rose and the talons there reached forward to what he saw with a lingering longing going over his glazed eyes, as if he were trying to grab this mirage like he could return to then and watch this happen again like none of this had ever happened... And then the moment passed, and all that remained were the sad present.

With the image gone, the longing withered in his eyes and he let out a small sigh as his talon returned to the floor.

"...Get them out. I will finish this."

Giddon lowered his gaze and walked past them to the large door that would mark the first step towards the inner chamber. He had work to do.

Meanwhile, a little behind where Giddon and Bashful had walked before, another gryphon stopped up as she heard some noises up ahead that she didn't knew what were, slung around to look for Veil and... Didn't see him. Or the map that she had asked if he could hold for that matter.

She gulped and looked around her, trying to find a place to cover, but finding nothing. Without the pony she had little chance to fight these off, and without the map she couldn't find another way instead back, and if she turned that way, she were likely going to be taken again. And why had he left her alone to begin with? She needed to get out as well, so why... But he could havebeen taken? Though... Why didn't they take her too if it were?

The questions were almost giving her a headache.

"Right, you don't have time for this. Find someplace to hide and th-"

The words withered as she turned around to where the sound had come from, now facing a minor swarm of either fresh converts or prisoners, lead by a large pegasus  that could likely crush her like a walnut if he so pleased. Something which really didn't lessen the sudden look of fear going over the pale gryphon with the rainbow tail feathers.

    "No... Not again..."

Return further inside again, a thump was heard as a helmet hit the wall near Giddon, supported by the now unconscious cultist it were equipped to.

The door had hidden three guards preparing to take the cage and those inside it the last little way and had thankfully not anticipated anypony or gryphon suddenly bashing through the door and taking out the first with a quick jab to the back of the head before they could react. The others had their time, but they were only two, none of them unicorns, and their physique weren't good enough to stop him from knocking those two over after a minute or so of struggling. Perhaps if they had been trained this would be different, but it seemed like this hive-minded control didn't extend to also adding the bulk they'd need to get things done. A con of picking off malnourished ones and then have them prepare for this important task it seemed, but he wasn't gonna complain. The less he had to knock out of these the better.

Passing through the second pair of doors he was faced with a most... Unimpressive room to be honest.

What he had expected weren't much, but it was more than simply seeing a small room, with some scattered armour pieces around that were either unusable, or - more likely - salvaged from converts and stolen a few other local places so they were ready for new cultists, and a few chain in the floor just to be prepared for those with a last, stubborn spark..

The only other thing in the room were hovering in the middle of it in a beam of red light that came from seemingly nowhere, looking exactly like the drawing he had found of it. Though a little less bloody.

There were many grand way to look at it, but essentially it were a section of spine connected either with some kind of glue he couldn't see, or magic, which seemed more likely as the parts were moving and going slightly apart now and again from the thin end to the more robust final piece connected to a bone from the same being to create the whip artefact that were the Spine of Zinthar. Not the most impressive thing ever to be found, but it were what helped it stay around for this long and still be taken up by some poor soul who didn't know better: That it looked less horrible than it actually were, even if it were a spine.

After kicking a pile of armor over to cover for the door, Giddon looked at the thing that seemed so very eager to lash out and grab him given half the chance.

It was time to end this.

"We don't. Even with forms, I never heard of one of us needing it.

Master tried to make me see how sleeping were once though, without tweaking my being more with his gifts. He put me in a lake with chaos around me, telling me to trying to focus on only that, though it kept changing, and enjoy the silence in the warm water. I don't know if it was how sleeping were, but it were... Relaxing, I think."

It were curious what counted for good memories for her. Whilst for others being tossed in a lake and attempted drowned were not fun, as she didn't need to breathe it weren't torment for her, and it had really been an interesting time until master called for her again. Perhaps if they found him and things went well, she could ask of this another time again. It had been a long time since she had *slept* right, as without the chaos, it didn't seem like she dreamt.

    "...Sometimes I miss dreaming."

A few seconds would pass where she just starred at him, before the words came again, her as usual not having found what she had said off putting in any way, and continuing on to her own questions whilst the only thought in her head went along the lines of once more wondering why master had not set the ability to sleep in her being. A simple question likely ending in once more the logical answer that he needed her to be awake to do his bidding when it pleased him, instead of having her sleep when she had things to do.

"What about you? How do you sleep? And how long? Long enough to dream?"

It wasn't something Ziggy liked to see, but she had to focus on what she had come to her to talk about first, then see if she could make her smile after that.

"Well, I really need as much help as I can get to help get one of the foreponies out. He's stuck in a hole in the mine, and I can't get him out myself. I'm not really that strong, but you look like you are, and while I really do wish that I could just leave you be and relax after your incident, there's not many around not taken right now. If you're really okay, could you help? Please?"

Ziggy did her best puppy-dog eyes to the mare, hoping that she would say yes. She had to get Chuck out of the hole and get to the infirmary as soon as possible, but to do that she needed muscle. Her hollow bones were great for flying, but they limited her physical strength, and though unicorns were a bit better off, you really needed an earth pony for things like this, as they had that great physique for these kind of things.

Truth be told she were jealous at times that she couldn't heap around things like them, or push boulders, rescue others out of holes and so forth, but it just wasn't her lot in life. It was for those like this unknown, angry looking pony, and with some luck she'd be willing to use those gifts that lot gave her to help them save Chuck. Celestia knew that they could really use her at least.

Myths and folklore wasn't something that Last had grown up much with. Her kin at the shrine had their stories, sure, but it were things they knew and tales of great mares and stallions before them instead of beings that might be out there somewhere or tales of places far away, driven by the hoof of a puppeteer at times that none could find.

They had enough to deal with where they were and didn't see the point in teaching their foals about what might be out there when there were horrid enough things in plentiful numbers where they were that they could actually prove were there, and had to be dealt with at some points. To them, it just made more sense to tell warning tales of what they had, and inspiring stories of who they knew compared to outside sources.

Besides, they had more or less been isolated for a thousand years where they were and had come there with little more than some tools, farming equipment, and the armors on their back. They hadn't the stories to pick from even if they wanted to tell them.

Nemo were on their level more than likely since they had followed his trail, so if this weren't something that could keep him in, what were the point? Unless... No, no that was just paranoid thinking. There were no reason for anypony to keep others trapped for him unless he had disciples or something, and she doubted that were the case as he seemed to be more than able and willing to handle things personally. Sure, it could be his own magic, but she hadn't seen any magic yet so it seemed... Doubtful. Yet still, not impossible.

Sure, it were not guaranteed, and even if he would be able to see them eventually, he couldn't read their paths as being forgotten frayed their potential futures to his vision. More than that, the consequences of being forgotten meant that he had no idea if this were some of those he had wanted to guide towards this in the proceedings as any memory of them were stripped from him, and he only knew that some beings would perhaps show that carried with them some of the tools of the end. Information that he only knew because he could see in the paths of some of the gathered ones, the end of this were the ancient one were dead, and that could not happen without influence from others as the paths were he worked more directly were easy to spot, and he did not see them in all of them.

That would be the base magic of Zhu. I highly doubt that anypony there have figured that out yet though, as the only ones he directly influenced with it are theSylar (who is forgotten) and Ink (Who I doubt have taken notice in Zhu looking him over as it occurred). As Zhu does not need to mumble spells to use this or swing his head or paws around wildly in accordance to the movement of the winds, it can be hard to pinpoint it's to him. Perhaps if your suit have some kind of tracker for magic that is on high alert he will be able to tell there is a faintly active one there, but the different magical sources he carries with him (more on that later, but something he carries for magical energy for other spells basically) will perhaps just make it seem like that.

"Either I follow my orders, or another war will break out. Everything is secondary to keeping that at bay, as both sides does not need a repeat of the Rose Knight Wars. It takes power and land, numbers needed for greater things, and strenuous allies will turn their back when times of actual need arrives. Something neither of the kingdoms need, or we wouldn't have made a treaty in the first place."

Ko wasn't enjoying the need for outsiders, but unlike Ashta, he could see reason over keeping some relatively good vibes with the members of Reverend's people and do his to work more neutrally. Sure, he might have tossed some poisonous daggers at them, but he had been in the middle of an assassination and had reacted on instinct. Nothing that mattered to him all things considered.

Besides, though both sides generally did not enjoy having anything to do with the other, the fact of the matter were still that they had a usage for eachother. Perhaps not so much these days, but what if a war were waged on them, or the Beast Court? For those times, which would inevitably come, having allies instead of burned bridges were vital, even if both sides saw themselves as being the superior force. Which really shouldn't be a surprise, as they all had a good deal of pride to boot and had held an iron grip in their own territories for untold years, so outside help would inevitably be seen upon as welcome, but still sub-par and only needed because they were lacking numbers.

Who the actual greater side were though... That were amongst things he didn't even theorise about. Though he did his to have a grasp on the political system as he wanted to rise in the ranks, there were still many things going on behind closed doors that were not readily available for him to learn, and as such were things he could only guess on. One of those things were numbers and strength of both sides, though he wouldn't be surprised if it were either somewhat even. Otherwise, how could the old war of the rose knights have gotten to a point were none of them were even close to being eradicated? Weakened, sure, but not on the brink.

"The old walls are getting nearer ambassador. Soon we will see if the gods smile today or if the red moon will shine."

The flyer might be more so, as she did not have the limits of the earth to deal with, but he were no sloth himself, and as the walls of the old castle started to get into sight, his thoughts narrowed further to the task in front of him. To stop what they had been sent to do before a political nightmare began to stir the old war drums, and hope that it could be done without having to kill a lot of beings.

Not a hope he relied on, but you never knew. Sometimes the gods indeed smiled upon their subjects after all, even if he were getting more prepared mentally to having to feed the red moon.

Ziggy went on like this for some time longer as they walked, explaining a surprising number of factors in how she determined who to hug, why and how, mixed in with some personal experiences. There were also the mention at times that sometimes, she just chose somepony anyway that would get frazzled about it because she found it funny, and didn't see it being a hurtful way to have some fun with others.

As for Ko, inform him that Ashta sent you to oversee things when you catch up with him. He will know not to go against it."

Brutal were the laws of the Beast Court at times, but if it prevented war that would cripple all sides - sides that might yet have a need for eachother in the ages to come - then it didn't matter. Nor did his life, as no matter how skilled he were there were always more where he came from that could take over. A thought that were ingrained into the higher amongst them that he knew, as knowing when to go through with sacrificing both the team and yourself for the greater cause were needed for a leader. At least as far as he were concerned.

But that wasn't important anymore. He had been able to say what had to before the other one ran off, and now the scene were set. For now, he had to stay idle and wait for what would happen. And he really meant idle, as he couldn't raise his weapons to deal with the other targets as any weapons raised now could be seen as a hostile action towards the diplomats. An annoying situation that the pests should praise their gods for. It bought them a few more hours if they were lucky, depending on how fast this would be resolved.

"While it's nice that the two of you have resolved your issue, I want answers. As to why you tried to hurt us to begin with, and as to what you-"

Briar pointed a hoof at Summer Bolt

"-exactly means by destroying everything here. Whilst I am thankful that you stopped this mad being, I do not feel comfortable being told that in case this being and his kind makes mistakes, we are to pay for that."

A skittering, mocking laughter were uttered by Ashta at the meddling little plant that had interrupted matters so far above his pay grade that he would be unable to fathom it.

"You don't get it, do you? Foolish little thing, meddling into matters he cannot comprehend, and then wonder why his actions have consequences."

Briar snarled at Ashta. Normally this was not his way to handle things, but he were quite frankly angry at this thing enough as it is. Him, and his attempt at their lives, could have killed both him and Brittle - who were basically clutching the ground and staying complete still, frozen in fear - then Seamore and Miles afterwards he assumed.

Then these others had shown up to, and now it sounded like they were still in danger just because the spider and his kin might have killed their high priestess. This were not something they had any part in, and it was wearing his otherwise calm demeanour down.

"Have you forgotten what happened the last time you annoyed me already?"

    "Oh, I haven't forgotten."

He narrowed his many eyes again at the plant, thinking on ways he would have to repay him for that little inconvenience, but otherwise kept silent. He owed this one no answers, and unless he felt talky whilst tormenting him later, Briar wouldn't hear a word about what him and the others had put themselves into. As opposed to the high priestess they had gone after as well, these weren't covered under the diplomatic immunity that their treaty provided, and frankly the lower life form should be thankful that he had even talked with him to begin with.

Gulping down what felt like a golfball with spikes, Florence got a better look around the room and slowly began making her way towards the only thing in here that might contain something that could help them: The table with the papers on.

She flickered through a few, reading mad ramblings from those loosing their mind in the time before they were converted to the cult, or who had fought for a small amount of time and tried to get something out that had ended as just incoherent cries for help mixed together in a hard to read pattern.

After a minute or so, she figured there wasn't anything worth going for in this and was about to stop when something caught her eye and she slowly raised a small, torn piece that she read over a few times before the resemblance of hope started to grow in her eyes.

It was not all legible, and as mentioned were torn a few places, but you could roughly see where the room they were in were, and what way they had to walk to get out of here. Even showed a few rooms as being guard quarters and the like that they'd have to be extra careful around.

It were unfortunate for the poor soul that had made these, as he were likely another mind controlled cultist just writing down the schematics for their continued expansions on this place, but it were good for them cause this little piece of what had likely been supposed to be a rough sketch for the beginning quarters could mean their salvation.

The blast from Miles wouldn't have a chance to hit Ko, as he had already moved away from that point, getting down to Ashta after the spiderling had reformed himself - missing a few memories, but beyond that not worse from the wear - and signalled him to come down, then raising his front legs in the proper greeting for political meetings with these... Foolish necessities.

He wouldn't have minded if the knifes had hit, as he hated these and their ilk having enough of an important presence to be heard in the beast court, and he would rather slaughter the lot of them along with their targets than speak with them, but much as he hated it he had to think of the political implications here as well. As the team leader of the strike team that had been sent to neutralize these threats, he were bound to that more than anything, but that were because he were bound by his loyalty to the queen, and she would not want a full out war if it could be avoided.

The peace were... Strenuous at times, and small provocations could tip the barrel and lead them into another war like the one lead by the rose knights. Something that were devastating both to their overall power and numbers, and had taken them very long to repair the damages from, with some things lost to the ages for them that it were unlikely they'd ever get back.

So though it wasn't his want, he had to spend his time repair damages now rather than getting his bloody, gory job done on the meddling plant pony that had struck him and his friends.

    "We were not aware tha-"

A shock from the nearby trees struck the ground a half inch from where he stood, only missing him because he had been moving in the annoying greeting and were returning to a more comfortable position.

"Hold your ground prey, or I will have you skinned alive."

The tracking were clear. Something had gotten near them, and then the trees had started to act strange. Much as he wanted to blame this on the two *diplomats* it seemed unlikely to be from them as much as that prey, even if he couldn't see him or her yet.

"As I were saying, we weren't aware that one of the targets who set off the trap belonged to you, but you will get nowhere if you think killing us will help her. I sent others to deal with that one, and if you want her off our list you will hold your blade as much as you want us to."

His many eyes narrowed on the eldest of the two in front of him, which he assumed were the one in charge, whilst putting his blades slowly to the ground. Both because of her position and because she seemed like one that were possible to talk to, unless the meddling prey were going to do something again.

"Ko, go to the others and tell them to hold their blades if their priestess are still alive. If she's dead, or if they won't listen, kill them both and bring me their corpses along with hers. If, she is dead"

Ashta had not gotten this far in the food chain by being soft, and Ko would know that when he told him to kill his fellow soldiers, Ashta meant it. A small price to pay regarding a potential act war that would likely include his own life as compensation, but that were his responsibility to the court. To his queen. And he would personally tear apart his own friends and family without a second thought if it meant it would help him fulfilling that.

Before Ko left though, he added another, minor thing to his orders.

"And if you haven't heard from me within the hour, remove the evidence and inform the queen that Subterranea have killed me during parley. I'm sure she would be Very interested in hearing that."

With that, Ko would leave towards the castle. The others wouldn't stop him if they had any intention of following their orders of keeping this a political game rather than a full scale declaration of war. Even if they did kill Ashta and his entire team after all, there were more where they came from, and if one team failed a bigger one would complete the task eventually. That, or find out who had done this to him and the others and then see that the first stone int he road towards war had been started.

"Ko is the fastest in my platoon. If you want a chance for your high priestess, I suggest you don't try and stop him prematurely. And in case she have killed the ones I sent for her..."

He shrugged his shoulders as best he could.

"Self defence from an unfortunate misunderstanding. Seems acceptable to me, just as I will find it if you do not put a leash on whoever the changeling is that have been near your high priestess."

They should be thankful that it had not been Ko that he had sent after them. Even if the blades hadn't hit their targets before, it were just one of a few weapons in his arsenal of deadly poisons, and if he had been after their priestess with murder in mind the chances were small that he had not completed his task. The other two... Good in their own rights, but there were a reason he had sent those two to handle one whilst him and Ko were taking care of three. He would give them though, that they had some good tandem work, but that could be used against them too at times.

    @@Moonlit,

"Heh, okay. I can meet you in a couple of hours then and go goof about for a bit if you want. But only if that's what you want, okay? I don't wanna be in your way, but I don't want you to just ask me to go because you think I have stuff to do whilst you feel lonely either. Nopony should feel alone after all."

She could use hours on random things if needed, like looking over this town she had come to recently again, but there were time for everything. She were in no rush to move on currently, and she'd much rather keep her friend company if she were needed there. And she could get hours to go goofing off in the house too. Just had to shut off the brain for a bit and wander around dancing randomly, listen to things, check the place or a load of other things. She could almost always find something entertaining, no matter how small it might seem.
