  1. JJJJOOOIIIIINNNNN TTTHHHHEEEE HHHHHEEEERRRRRRRDDDDDD... You will be assimilated! LMAO
  2. I've recently joined a group that plays the game in the Ann Arbor/Detroit area on Thursdays. It's fun, but my background in games is Dominion which has a very straight forward set of steps in each players turn. So for me it is much more complex - the number of phases, the number of cards, keeping track of action points, etc. But it has definitely been worth my time, as I have made new friends playing the game. And in a totally non-cynical way isn't that what Frienship is Magic is all about? That being said, I really want to get my card collection organized. Can any regular players make suggestions? How many of each card should I have minimum? maximum? How should I organize the cards? By set, color, card rarity? Am I going to better complete my collection by buying complete decks, or by buying 12-card packs, or a combination of the two? Any advice regular players can give me is greatly appreciated!
  3. Haha, probably before most of you were even born! 1994 would be the year. I remember going to the library and being so enthralled with seeing websites dedicated to my favorite bands - Pixies, Butthole Surfers, etc. I feel oldish now. But that being said, it is interesting how much the internet has permeated and even mutated culture. Can you imagine our world without it? I think it has both positive and negative connotations. On the positive, it has allowed people over great distances to connect and find common interests, and feel a sense of belonging. On the negative, it has created a culture where everyone is expected to market themselves. You have to sell yourself to the world online. Everything from your visual image to your interests and your group of friends is under scrutiny and I would like to think that things shouldn't be that way. This is me getting temporarily philsophical.
  4. I was watching the finale with a friend from my local brony group and he brought up TwiGlimmer shipping. My immediate thought was, "that has to be a thing already!" So a couple hours later, I googled "twilight and starlight mlp" and found a group on fimfiction devoted to it. No biggie. But then I noticed that the ONLY story under this group was THIS. This story, was started in July, 4 months before the episode even aired. How did this writer get so close to the plot of the actual season finale?! I'm scared!
  5. That. Was. EPIC! This episode was almost as hardcore in the fan service as "Slice of Life". And now, it is with a heavy heart that I must await season 6.
  6. Love me some Octavia. Vinyl is of course my favorite, but Tavi is a close second. So I gotta ask the fanbase at large... What is with the whole Octavia and cake thing?! I don't get it. Did I miss a reference somewhere??! This seems to be a thing. Please help me understand this. Crazy it is making me!
  7. Yes. It happens with music all the time. Prime example: Kittens For Christian. A really awesome post-punk band. They were - for a short time - signed to Serj Tankian's (of System of a Down) record label Serjickal Strike. They released one album and shortly thereafter broke up. Prior to signing with Serjikal Strike they had released some CDs and vinyl records that I scoured the internet to find. Took me a while, but I think I have pretty much all of their recorded output. That being said, no one else has any idea what I'm talking about when I mention them. A real shame, because they were such a unique band... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Qi6kxRX_O8
  8. That sounds like an unpleasant experience. I'm thankful to say the worst I have ever had to deal with is tech guys trying to push extended warranties, and after the third attempt they dropped it politely. I can't imagine getting yelled at for not taking advantage of a sale. I probably wouldn't shop there again either.
  9. It's definitely annoying. But the sad reality is there are a lot of sales people who are forced to push those products (extended warranties, etc) who don't get a commission. I worked at Staples for 13 years and when I first started, you got a commission. About 4 years in they got rid of the commission, but they still harassed managers and sales associates to push those things. And if the associates are unsuccessful in selling them, management has to put further pressure on them. Which just makes EVERYONE miserable. Based on experience, that's why I don't hate it when they try to encourage me to buy those things. I just politely decline. Eventually, they let it go, and I'm sure they're as grateful to be beyond those unpleasant things as I am.
  10. Yeah, uhm. About that... I think it is heading in that direction. ShortSkirtsAndExplosions is definitely making us wait for a conclusion though. And I just finished reading this chapter and all I can say is, I am frustrated that this was not released with an immediate followup chapter. Cliffhangers! AARRGGGGHHHH!! http://www.fimfiction.net/story/279865/127/the-things-tavi-says/frightening-things
  11. Any Starlight Glimmer sightings? I mean, a crowd that big would be the perfect place to blend in...
  12. Wow. Loved it. I loved the variety of the music. Bravo, Mr Ingram! I cannot wait to hear remixes of these tunes. Also, RaRa's character design was awesome - dat hair tho! And was it just me, or did her manager's appearance remind anyone else of a younger David Letterman? Sad to hear that Amy Keating Rogers is leaving the show. Her writing on episodes like "Crusaders of The Lost Mark" and "The Last Roundup" is stellar and I hope Disney utilizes her talents well. You'll be missed Ms. Rogers! Oh, and also OCTAVIA SILHOUETTE! Yeah, I'm a little obsessed.
  13. This episode is a perfect example of why we as fans love this show so much. It's not shallow. It's not just pretty colors. It's sad; it is hard to watch without crying; and it goes way beyond the subject matter of your average cartoon show. Name another cartoon show on Saturday morning that has discussed the Kubler-Ross model. I cry everytime I watch this episode, because I am reminded throughout of the inevitable truth that Rainbow Dash will have to face. I can't say it is perfect, but it is very near it. In my book 10/10!
  14. LMAO! How did two GUYS make families? The anatomy doesn't quite work. I believe Lauren Faust was quoted at one point that they don't hammer logic too hard on the show. But now I'll never be able to watch this episode without giggling at your observation. /) Whoa. I swear the writers of this show should have a second career in ARG. They are so good at seeding things in episodes!
  15. I liked a lot of things about this episode: Twilight's over-enthusiasm in the beginning; Fluttershy's book club; Big Daddy McColt (pumpkin fritatas ); the trojan cake (sorry, I'm just dying over here). However, there were a couple things that bugged me. The story is a classic trope, a fitting one for the show to tackle but it still felt a little cookie-cutter. It also bugs me, we've now seen two episodes in a row where Twilight - the Princess of Friendship - feels like she can't solve a problem and gets frustrated. I know it's bound to happen to anyone, I guess I just feel like two episodes in a row of Twilight feeling helpless bothers me. Maybe if they had spaced them out differently - Just an idea but swap this episode and "Hearthbreakers" in the sequence and I might feel differently about it. All in all, good. Not great, but good.
  16. I've been reading through a lot of fanfics lately. Especially the VinylXOctavia ones. Two of my favorites involving these characters are ObabScribbler's "Playing With My Heart" ( http://www.fimfiction.net/story/108466/playing-with-my-heart ) and "Misadventures in Music" ( http://www.fimfiction.net/story/108378/misadventures-in-music ) by VulpineHero1 (this story is actually the sequel to the equally brilliant "Music Makes The Heart" ( http://www.fimfiction.net/story/24719/music-makes-the-heart )). Sadly neither of these well-written stories have been updated in at least a year. I'm afraid they'll never get finished! That being said, What fanfiction do you wish would come back? What fan made story do just HAVE to know the ending to? I ask for two reasons: first, I'm hoping there are others who have read the above stories (or maybe even wrote them?) and may be as enthusiastic about them as I am; and second, I'm looking for suggestions for good fanfics!
  17. I found the episode and rewatched it. I think I may be mistaken, it looks like what I saw was the tail of an unnamed background pony in the previous frame. Still, now that we know that Starlight has been popping up throughout the season, it's kinda like Where's Waldo?... but WAAYYY more intense.
  18. I thought I saw her hiding in the bushes in "The One Where Pinkie Knows", but sadly I was mistaken. It was the tail of the pony Carrot Top was talking to that I saw. I can't wait until the DVD is released. I will waste so many hours of my life looking for Starlight Glimmer!
  19. Can anyone confirm or deny this: In the scene where Pinkie Pie is sneaking through town wearing the mustache/glasses/clown nose, I SWEAR I saw a familiar lavendar unicorn horn framed by purple hair with blue streaks partially hidden by a bush in the background. Another Starlight Glimmer sighting? I don't have the episode, so I can't rewind to confirm.
  20. Oh man! So many Starlight Glimmer sightings. I cannot wait for this season to come out on DVD so I can spot them all for myself! I kept waiting for Twilight to have a "You think he's gone?! He's never gone!" moment, but alas. It was not to be.
  21. This was a strange episode. Strange, but not bad. I think it's amusing, the references to What About Bob? and how both Dischord and Twilight learned a lesson in this episode. Twilight learning that it is okay to feel jealous about missing out on things as long as you can be honest about your feelings, and Dischord learning that feeling the way Twilight did is no fun, and maybe he should be more considerate of the effect his actions can have on others. It kind of makes me wish they would make an episode depicting all of these scenarios that Twilight missed out on, kind of like they did in Made in Manehatten and Sisterhooves Social, but that seems highly unlikely. Not my favorite episode, but I will gladly watch it again.
  22. When Marnie Was There! I loved it!!!
  23. My Vinyl Scratch costume. I'm not wearing the tail in this one or my can-headphones. My only complaint is that I couldn't get the hair right. I'm not good at styling real hair, let alone a wig.
  24. So is anybody dressing up as a character from the show for Halloween/Nightmare Night? I dressed up as Vinyl Scratch. I will post a picture this afternoon. I'd love to see your costume!
