animation Any good Anime online with English dub?
weesh replied to Stella Star's topic in Media Discussion
Is "you're under arrest" anywhere online? I've listened to both language tracks, and it is the only one for which I recommend english over japanese. The english voice acting is dynamic and interesting. It is about a small local police station and their day to day beat. cute and funny with great characters.- 20 replies

Who is stronger: Princess Luna or Princess Celestia?
weesh replied to Mywas's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
The fact that Celestia was able to defeat Nightmare Moon is potentially not conclusive TO ME because Nightmare Moon was blinded with rage, and Celestia used magic items to tip the balance, implying that they may have otherwise been equally matched. But for the original question: Physically, magically....or emotionally? If I had to guess which were most likely to triumph over a random foe, I'd give the edge to Celestia, because she maintains her focus and ability while angry. She is less likely to be emotionally compromised. That could give her a huge edge. In a future hypothetical fight between the two, emotional stability would absolutely be a factor. -

Maud episodes are...very trying... but this was my favorite, because it ended extremely well. Well, not the canon exchange, but the emotion behind it was perfect. Maud was the only one there that actually realized what was important. I'm glad they didn't actually do the gift of the magi trope full out. its a bit overplayed. this one a one-sided version of it.

general What other "childish" things do you like?
weesh replied to chocolate cake's topic in General Discussion
Besides adult responsibilities that kids don't have to deal with, there are adult responsibilities that require professionalism. I don't hide my brony status, but neither would it be appropriate to openly display it in my workplace. -

I've read them all, and will continue to do so, even at a cost of $8 per month. Yes, there are some mediocre ones, but most of them at least have something to offer, and many are very strong. They all stand along, or stand alone with the 1-3 others in a short series, so you don't have to go back and binge them all to get enjoyment out of them. but there are some really killer stories to pick up, like: Rarity Microseries: great character development and a great story. It contains maybe my favorite Rarity moment of in all of the canon. Luna Microseries: this is a WILD ride! super fun and crazy, lots of wonderful new characters, lots of little twists, fantastic lines, and a terrific final punch. Friends Forever: Celestia and Spike. Best Celestia moment ever! This is the way I always want to see her, and this shows off her best side in a charming and thoughtful adventure with Spike. You get character growth and humor as well. Main: two-part pirate series. my favorite multiparter, and I got it signed by the writer! it does NOT go where you think it will, and it really is adorable. It is also interesting from the perspective of the major change in tone from the first to second parts. And they are continuing to produce good content. The most recent main series was very strong. I love seeing young Twilight in Celestia's school, dealing with a very adult challenge. it makes me wonder if the writer knew someone who had to handle it, or had to handle it themself growing up. Even the ridiculous sounding "friends forever: shining armor and prince blueblood" was a pleasant surprise. Go for it! If you want more suggestions, I could dig into them and re-remember my favorite stories.

A Digital Painting Featuring #1 Unicorn - Trixie
weesh replied to LiraCrown's topic in Visual Fan Art
A very appealing piece. I liked the colored layers of pink and yellow brightness.. Would be a really neat effect to actually see in the sky. -
Agreed. It is so relatable to see him feeling inadequate and uncomfortable. But once he's put into his element, he displays some intellectual heroism completely independant of magical ability or physical power. Plus, I'd love a gig that let me hang out with new babies and parents. I'm already a fan.

Why does Twilight idolize Celestia so much?
weesh replied to Hazy Skies's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
To be fair, I bet Celestia is really hard to write. Unless you have some sort of conspiracy therory about how she is secretly evil/controlling, etc, then she really doesn't have any interesting flaws to use in a story. Most of her good characterization is in the comics books. I'd have prefered that they writer her a bit more "human", that is, fallible. edit: lol! EVERYONE'S an alicorn for april fools day! -
Tips for writing my first FiM fiction?
weesh replied to TheMarkz0ne's topic in AK Yearling's Writing Resources
try smaller projects first use accepted formulas until you understand their application to the point that when you break a rule, it is for a specific reason don't try to write the first draft in the first pass. just keep your pen moving, and get stuff on the paper. after you see the shit that you have written, try to find a piece that was interesting. start over from scratch, using that one interesting idea. be willing to throw stuff away and start over. don't get attached to your writing. if a paragraph or chapter has to go, get rid of it. consider reading a writing book like "bird by bird" and/or a creativity book like "a whack on the side of the head". "whack" is one of the best books I've ever read by the way. -
general What other "childish" things do you like?
weesh replied to chocolate cake's topic in General Discussion
I like playing with kids, and its a good chance to pull out many of my favorite kid games like hand slapping, etc. You can build off of and encourage their creativity though, and most of the silly things i do are when i get to play with kids. here are some examples: For some reason, a little girl was taking pictures of my socks. i could have kept chatting with the adults in the room, but i made a game out of trying to hide my feet so that she couldn't take the pictures. her sister came over when she saw how much fun we were having in thier battle to obscure or reveal my feet. three kids were on a bit of a pirate kick, and asked me to make a map to a treasure. I went to a party store and got a bunch of pirate props. I also made a map to 4 different clues. they used the map to find the clues, and then had to figure out where to go to find the treasure. we ended up needing to get into a canoe and paddle to a small island where i'd hidden a copy of the "mousetrap" board game. then we got to go back and play it together! -
I sorta agree with you, from a different angle. They brought her down to a place of brokenness and confusion. I want a new strong Starlight that has all that confidence and power we saw in cutiemarkless, but focused toward something positive. Basically, the same character with a new vision. But it wouldn't make sense to go directly from evil to good. they needed to show the intermediate steps. I am satisfied with this portrayal of her if they continue to develop the character. if she stay like this, then yes, she has absolutely been destroyed. I'm looking forward to seeing her rebirth, and am optimistic and excited about it.

Why does Twilight idolize Celestia so much?
weesh replied to Hazy Skies's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Your question is framed from the "what did celestia do to be so honored?" angle, but a more pointed question would be: "why does Twilight create so much distance with that honor when Celestia is trying so hard to be personal and intimate!?" All the honor and distance is twilight created. Celestia has done so many things to deepen their relationship, and Twilight works so hard to build up that wall. She is SHOCKED when Celestia isn't mad at her. She puts her up on a pedestal and freaks everyone out about not disappointing her...completely unnecessarily! twilight panics when Celestia tries to break the ice with jokes! Its really very sad to me. I feel that celestia is worthy of honor, but she also deserves to have real friendships too! Peeps who will treat her like an equal, would be willing to disagree, etc. That is true, and Twilight is completely blind to it. I think if she realized that Celestia's regard for twilight was as high as her own for Celestia, their relationship could be closer. -

If the Brony fandom had a pair of pony mascots
weesh replied to ManaMinori's topic in Sugarcube Corner
i dunno. for the purposes of representing the show to a broad range of people that includes bronies and non-bronies...pinkie stands head and shoulders above the rest. 2nd place isn't obvious. possibly Rainbow? this choice would be based on the assumption that the other pony would compliment pinkie as the first choice. The two look good together, represent two types of ponies with two very different personalities, relatively different aesthetics, but both are enthusiastic and fun, which is important for the role. I could be convinced to pick a different second though. -
