Which is scariest? Clown, Dummy, or Wax Figure.
Heart's Desire replied to Blue Moon's topic in General Discussion
Thank you, I wont sleep tonight. I hate them all but there is a clown or two i can tollerate, and "dummy" kinds seems vague to me. I had to go with wax figure. Those things freak me out, they are too realistic. I have always been afraid of non-human things that resemble humans. I suppose it's because my brothers told me that things like that come to life and eat you at night. I still remember falling asleep staring at my barbie dolls. I'd close my eyes and think "Oh no, they're going to get me!" So I'd open my eyes really fast and try to tell if any of them had moved. Take a clown and a doll and mix them together and you probably have one of the scariest things I can think of. I saw poltergeist when I was little. Fast forward to when I was 9 and my stepmother bought my little brother a clown doll. It was musical and when the music played it would rock it's head in a circle like a person trying to get a crick out of their neck. I hated it so much. I used to hide it and throw it into places where I figured it "couldn't get out" and she'd find it and set it up on top of the TV again. *shiver* Ventrilloquist dummies (I just realized that's probably what you meant, so I should have picked that) and Marianettes are pretty high on my list too. Pinochio was not a fun movie for me. Oh crud. Now I'm thinking about clown wax figurines and clown marrianettes. -
This, exactly. I only know a little Japanese but I know enough to realize the subs are simplistic and not always accurate. To a fluent japanese speaker I'm sure they are just as epic as the english ones are to us. Also, I love both of them and I think the voices they chose are PERFECT. Are you judging that based on the way it sounded or the translation? I thought it sounded perfect. I'll agree the translation doesn't flow as well, but the Japanese aren't going to be seeing the subs.

It (and the white version) say things like "My hair is beautiful!" and "I love it when you brush my hair!" "My barrettes are pretty!" "Flying is fun!" It is so bad that I just told my mother, who doesn't watch the show, and her eyes bugged out of her head. I said, "Here they have this wonderful Dumbledore like character teaching wonderful lessons and her toy says "My hair is beautiful". *imagines Dumbledore doll saying "brush my fluffy white beard"* ...
-
But....flying IS so much fun! Ugggg.... It's like on the Simpsons where the Malibu Stacy doll says, "Don't ask me, I'm just a girl! *stupid giggle*" They might not be putting it quite so plain, but they seriously aren't trying very hard not to. You know, I also find it sad when there are so few decent versios of the Malibu Stacy episode on You Tube. Mlibu Stacy For a little background for those too young to remember, back in 1992 Matel released a talking Barbie. That's what the Simpson's episode is a reference to. The Barbie doll said "Math class is tough". Considering the stereotype of girls being bad at math, and how so many women are pushed away from academics due to such stereotypes and being taught that science and math are for boys it's understandable that people were outraged. My concern is that they only seem to care about the obvious phrases. I doubt the majority of parents who don't watch the show would even notice or care. (though to be fair I just told my mom about it and her eyes about bugged out of her head, lol.) It's these little phrases that no one pays attention to that sets our girls back, makes them think it's more important to be pretty than to be smart, and that worrying about hair and makeup is more important than homework. Celestia has so many wonderful lessons to teach our girls. Every parent should be outraged by this, not just those of us who like FiM ourselves.
-
The discussion of the Pink Celestia toy and what both versions of the toy say when their voice feature is activated got me thinking. Like Lisa Simpson in Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy, I think it would be a good idea to come up with more appropriate and true to character phrases for Celestia to say. Sure, we can't run out and make our own talking Celestia, but it would still be fun to think of more appropriate phrases. Myself, I would love a few simple quotes like "Would you accept my friendship?" or "You have a very special gift." I want to think of some others but I'm sure everyone here will have some great ones.

First digital drawing
Heart's Desire replied to Arcus (Silver Lining) Wind's topic in Visual Fan Art
That's fantastic, especially for your first digital drawing! I was horrible when I first tried to use a tablet. I almost gave up because I didn't like how anything turned out. I've been drawing the old fashioned way for 20+ years. Usually when I get really into a drawing I take my glasses off and practically press my nose to the paper. I can't really do that on the computer, Anyway, great work! You might want to try the trial of Open Canvas as well. It's the only program that felt like actual drawing to me. It responds beautifully and you can grab the "paper" and turn it whichever way you want for comfort/drawing the tricky parts. Zooming in and out is smooth, and it doesn't put water marks on the picture. It's what I do my sketches in before I vector something. -

request shop OC's to practice vectoring?
Heart's Desire replied to Heart's Desire's topic in Requestria
Okay, here she is: I actually tried to do a different pose with her but it didn't seem to work quite right. Hope you like her. I used the pose from Bases-4-Bronies on deviantart with some edits to make it work better for me. Basically I just saw that pose and said, "I could so see her doing that!" I'm without internet except at work so I've been working on them at home and trying to find time to upload them at work. I think I may have missed someone since I couldn't access to thread to see what order they were in. Don't worry, I will go back and get them. As always, let me know if there are mistakes or if you want something changed.- 38 replies

planning MLP FIM Dungeons and Dragons?
Heart's Desire replied to twilight_sparkle's topic in Everfree Planning, OOC & Discussion
That's the traditional way, but not everyone does that. I assumed we weren't since there was no requirement on the character sheet but I suppose it's possible if everyone wanted to. -
Cutest girl-brony contest [SUBMISSIONS RE-OPENED]
Heart's Desire replied to Motion Spark's topic in Sugarcube Corner
That is a brilliant Picture! I love it! 1. We're girls, 99% of us feel that way. 2. Holy Crap you're beautiful! I'm not sure if the title works for or against the thread. I came in because I wanted clarification on what "girl-brony" meant and was wondering how such a contest would be done. Now I'm here I think it's a great idea, just for fun, and a good way to get some of the ladies out here so we can prove there are more of us than people think. That being said, I'll go find a picture. I don't intend to win, being older than most the girls posting here, but I want to show my support. -
good digital art programs
Heart's Desire replied to Morager's topic in Photo Finish's Magics (Visual Art)
Nice tablet, I have a Bamboo as well. I would actually recommend Open Canvas. It's Japanese, yes, but they provide a translated version that is official. It's free for 30 days, so you can try it out before buying it. (or find it on a Torrent site, but who would do such a thing?). It works perfectly with the tablet, it really understands the pressure sensitivity which I know other programs are supposed to get as well, but they never seem to work right for me. If you do decide to purchase it the price is in Yen so it changes as the Yen changes. It can range between $50-$65. So you can just use Google's money converter to see when the Yen is low... Or just delete the registry key and restart the free trial, but again, who would do such a thing? *innocent whistle*. Anyway, looking forward to seeing what awesomeness you create! -
I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before but a search did not bring anything up. What I want to know is, how did I not know this existed??? It's an addon for World of Warcraft that puts a pony on your screen! It walks around and does pony things while you play. Here's the link. I am downloading it immediately. What better to have on my screen while taking down Horde in the battle grounds, than a sweet little Fluttershy fluttering about?

Heart's Desire replied to Heart's Desire's topic in Requestria
She's so cute! Going to work on her today. I was wondering, do you want her just like that pose, or something else? If you don't have anything in mind you could tell me about her personality and I'll see what I can come up with. That goes for everyone else as well! Awesome! Thanks, You're on my list No worries, I usually forget to PM people anyway. I usually just quote them so it will send a notification that they have been quoted, if that's okay?- 38 replies

Hello everypony nice to part of this forum.
Heart's Desire replied to Cyanite Skylight's topic in Welcome Plaza
Welcome! I can really think of only one thing to say in response to your opening thread (other than welcome, of course): -
Hi, Welcome! No, that's not too long of a post. It's your thread, after all! We're happy to have you and believe me, you will find a lot of friendly people on this forum! Hmmm, a loyal Fluttershy fan with a cat based user name... I may have a new best friend

Don't worry, you aren't alone. This has happened to the majority of people for as long as human kind can remember. Carl Jung called it Synchronicity. Others believe it is simply the law of averages and statistics. With synchronicity their is an underlying meaning to all coincidences that we simply aren't aware of. (I'd look it up for a better definition, it's been years since I took psychology.) Whereas the law of averages and statistics would break it down mathematically to suggest that based on the number of times an episode airs on tv (or a song, word, name, etc, but we'll stick with tv for the explanation), the number of channels that air a particular show, and how often you tend to watch the show and calculate the probability of you seeing the same episode of that show on the day you thought about it. I don't know what I believe, but it certainly can freak you out when it happens. I happen to have it happen all the time. I'll wake up with a song I haven't heard in years stuck in my head and then hear it on the radio, or background music at some store. Think of a scene in an episode of a show and see it only moments later. Think about calling someone only to have them call you first. It's been happening enough to people that we have psychological and mathematical studies devoted to it, so, no, you aren't alone and have no need to worry. Do feel free, however, to marvel at how awesome life is and how strange these concepts are. That is awesome! Of course, now that song is stuck in my head! hehehe. Hmmm... I might need to make this post longer. Do you think I've met the character limit yet?

We're looking at doing a practice run this weekend. You in? It sounds good to me. I shouldn't have any issues joining. -
You get a brohoof from the veggie, because, seriously, that's all those idiots will ever accomplish with those games. Besides, I'm not one of those "I made a choice so you have to make the same choice or you're evil!" kinda veggies. Also, it made me laugh.
