I've had enough of the hate of the earlier generations in the fandom!

most probably have distain for it because most of the grief bronies get stem from the ignorance of people not knowing the differnce between the different generations. Its sort of a faceless target they can strike at.

A lot of the earlier gens are pretty poorly done, in my opinion. While I don't "hate" them it's not my type of thing, and I doubt it ever will be. FiM is more my speed due to having great storytelling and whatnot and being completely engaging to the viewed - the earlier gens actually feel like a toy commercial. FiM is made to sell toys, yeahh, but you can't really feel it in the show itself, and that isn't the case for the previous gens. No good.

 

Of course, you can always just ignore the hate of the previous gens - that usually helps out in these kind of scenarios

I've seen previous gens around, and never saw the appeal to it. I don't hate it, I just have no interest at all in it. Igot a couple G1, 2 and 3 toys in a bag at Value Village, and I tossed them because I just wanted the G4 ponies in it. I have no interest in the older toys.

 

I'll stick with FiM. I'm not fond of the style, the animation, nor the plots of previous generations....FiM actually has writers that put forth effort, hell they've done countless fan services and cameos and brony plugs in the show. The animation is also excellent, the animation is far superior vs the hand drawn stuff.  Most shows now are flash animated. and it simply looks better. That said I do enjoy watching my favourite childhood TV shows like Bugs Bunny, Tiny Toons and that sort of thing.

I hear they're not that great so I don't bother watching them, but I have nothing against them. If I don't watch them I can't judge them.

Meh. Personally I don't mind the first Gen 1 show all that much. It's okay, but nothing special in my opinion. At least it had good villains.

 

My little Pony: Tales (It's technically still Gen 1) is downright awful in my opinion. If someone likes it, fine. Just don't expect me to.

 

The Gen 3 show is the same as Tales.

 

Gen 3.5 is actual nightmare fuel. I would suggest burning anything related to it.

I just have no interest when prior generations with toys and characters that look a lot uglier then the current ones and that often share names but have little in common with the current incarnation. I mean does a Frank Miller / Christian Bale era Batman fan buy into the same 60's Adam West / Burt Ward era Batman? Surely not. There's partically no similarities.

 

Early MLP was not designed to appeal to all ages, all genders and therefore it just looks like poorly designed girls toys to me. I'm glad it was there to inspire the current genration but I'm even more glad mlp has evolved from the neadrathal looking ponies to the current ones.

 

It's the revolution of evolution.

I don't "hate" the previous gens.

 

I just think they sucked are of a lesser quality than gen4. 

 

I doubt there is a collective "hate" for the previous gens,but i do believe there is a collective "dislike" of the previous gens for obvious reasons.

I'm sure a lot of prior generation fans would love if their collections were sellable to the current gen fans or if they could actively share in their love for prior gen videos. Unfortunately i don't think people are interested in collecting all that memorabilia that you see on craigslist or viewing older eps at most conventions.....

 

It sucks but what do you do? It's not active hate, it's just indifference tbh.

I've noticed a general lack of tact when it comes to earlier gens and for that matter, older gen fans towards bronies as well.

 

When fans of earlier gens are talking some brony has to barge in and tell everyone why the previous gens suck. When bronies are chatting about G4, some previous gen collector has to barge in and yell about how bronies are neckbearded fedora wearing misogynists stealing ponies from girls. It seems like both camps can't learn to co-exist or at the very least be quiet if all they're gonna do is start a fight.

 

You can think the previous gens suck, that's fine. You can think bronies are the poison that's killing MLP, fine. Not everybody is going to like everything. But learn some (yay)ing tact when talking about your view.

I am not a fan of the older generations and many other fans are not. Of course, one must expect this. Of course if the level of dislike reaches the level of "hate" so that they are only doing it to upset those fans then it is unkind and unnecessary. A lot of modern fans won't connect to those shows in general so I think most of the criticism is reasonable.

I'm not a fan of pre-Tales G1 because of its poorly aged animation, flat stories, and flat characterization, but if there's one thing it deserves its respect, it's the fact it has heart. The Original Generation was developed to be gender-neutral and celebrated as such. Thus, I don't like it, but respect it.

 

Tales, G3, and G3.5, however? They don't deserve an ounce of respect because they disrespected not only the audience, but also the bold roots of the franchise.

 

For the sake of "realism," MLP turned into the ol' stereotypes of "realism" by making the characters obnoxious and mean-spirited in Tales.

 

G3 and G3.5 are full of extremely stereotypical characterization, poorly executed morals, a complete disregard of pacing and continuity, and thoroughly lazy storytelling. G3.5 spat on G3 by worsening the characterization and animation.

 

Just because those three came before FIM doesn't mean they should be respected. Respect must be earned, and those three were responsible for turning what was a franchise with a revolutionary vision into a laughingstock.

I genuinely like G1 (I separate by the show, not the toys so G1 is only And Friends; Tales is G2), I don't think G2 or G3 were bad though... I can watch them, just don't like them near as much as G1 or G4.  Haven't gotten to G3.5 yet and am reserving judgment until then/

Well, if someone really hates the earlier generations, that's their opinion.

 

However, I haven't seen much hate for the older generations aside from 3/3.5. In fact, a lot of people seem to respect the first series, while not saying a whole lot of the second.
