Should there be an episode all about the guys?

Male characters haven't gotten a lot of development in this show.  What if they made an episode that focused on some of the male character?  What should the plot be?

Okay, here's my idea.  Cheese Sandwich comes to Ponyville to plan a surprise Week-Before-Her-Birthday-Because-She'd-Totally-Expect-It-On-Her-Birthday party for Pinkie Pie.  He wants it to be an extra super surprise, so he even keeps it secret from her bestest friends (makes about as much sense as anything else Cheese does).  He enlists Big Mac and Thunderlane to help him, since they are closer to the mane six than he is.  Trenderhoof will come by because he's been meaning to write about Cheese Sandsich's parties, and if he just so happens to be able to dance with Applejack at the party...

All I need is a way to incorporate Flash Sentry and Saorin' and I'll have a complete set.

The problem with many of the male characters is they don't have enough characterization to even justify an episode for them. I think an episode purely for them wouldn't really work without some setup first for characters like Thunderlane, who we don't know a whole lot about. If they built up a few male characters more throughout the next season though, I think something like that could be cool. It could be like the Just For Sidekicks episode, kind of happening alongside what the mane 6 are doing.

Too early I think.

The male characters who have the most characterization are Spike, Discord and Shining Armor.

Either they have to create new important male characters in the show first, or they can develop some who are already existing like Thunderlane...

Yes, gender equality in My Little Pony!!! lol

Seriously though, an episode all about the guys could only be beneficial to the show and its target audience.

Well, while it would be nice to see, there really isn't a serious need for one.

As it stands our main characters are set (Mane 6, CMC, & Spike) as well as some lesser notables (Celestia, Luna, Cadence, Shining Armor, Discord); so putting together such an episode would probably seem...out of place.

Now, if they were to seriously think of something they COULD do something with Spike & Shining Armor, but again it's not a necessity.

That sounds like a bad idea, to be honest. I mean, it'd feel all rushed and it just sounds...yuckk. Where would that serve any purpose?

I can see an episode all about the stallions receiving hordes of hatred and scathing, and, honestly, it's just not a good concept. Keep it 'bout the mares, bruh :D

I love the idea. Get Spike in there as well and that would make for an interesting episode

Where would that serve any purpose?

To give the male personalities more character development, and just for entertainment. There are plenty of short slice of life episodes that don't serve an immediate purpose.

Also, not only this, but you have to realize that the show is based off of little girls. Just like most of the other generations, I'm sure they want to base it on the mares' point of view, not the stallions'.

A single episode focusing on the stallions wouldn't hurt in my opinion

It seems like the one stallion that might be a good character to have an episode about would be Big Macintosh though I will admit I am slightly biased with him being my favorite stallion. Word is that the show staff came up with an episode starring Big Mac where it deals with his relationship with Applejack and Granny Smith, how he is the quiet, reserve one when they are both so outspoken. Apparently Hasbro said no to the idea which is a shame because it would have made a good episode, but who knows maybe the idea can be ressurected and used in season 5 or at some other point.

are you forgetting that Gen 1 threw in Danny to appeal to the boys 9and he and Spike got their own episode, on occasion)

I don't see why G4 can't do the same, since there ARE many guys in their new era fandom (and have also nearly completely copied episodes and villains from g1, as well)

Its target audience are little girls. A young girl would probably be thinking 'Where are the Mane Six, where are all the characters I can relate to, why are there all these new characters who had only had a few lines at the most, where is the pink one?'

Let me just tell you this.... Habsro-Is it important to the main plot and the theme or friendship? Does it help us move the plot along towards the season finale? Does it help us experience/explore canon history? No? Well then your episode isn't approved.

Sorry... but that's the truth.

I would not support it due to a lack of interest in these characters and the fact that it is unnecessary to the show's progress. Let's have an episode featuring our favorite background characters instead (Octavia Melody, Lyra Heartstrings, Daisy, Minuette, Sweetie Drops, Vinyl Scratch).

I don't especially care about any of the stallions / colts on the show lol.  I even strongly dislike some of them.  The male characters I like most are Spike and Discord, but I watch the show for the ponywomen.  Considering that, well before I got into MLP:FIM, I watched a number of anime whose casts were almost entirely female...  I don't have a problem with dudes being excluded / relatively undeveloped.  Especially not when I don't think they contribute a whole lot to the show as a whole.  I'm "OK" with / tolerant towards some of the males, but the main female cast contains the strongest and most important personalities in the show.  And that works for me.

@,Yes but the question is... why should it be like that? or why should it continue to be?

Because it works.  Because these characters have been developed from the very beginning, and stealing focus from such strong characters to develop comparably weak and thus far meh (imo) ones...  I don't think it'd be entertaining.  Nor do I imagine it being worth it in the long run.  Besides, us guys have a billion shows where male characters are the focus / the heroes, or what have you.  I like that MLP isn't that.  Just my two bits. xD

I think this question is one where whoever are the ones asking "why not more male ponies" etc. are people who can't accept the obvious answer.

Y'all know what the darn answer [obvious] answer is.

The lesser obvious answer is --> hey, you got into MLP, watched countless episodes where it was obviously centered on the Mane 6, and you liked them, hence you being a brony/pegasister.  Thus, YOU liked a show where the main characters were female, and previously did not have any conscious or subconscious "problems" - for lack of a better word - with that.  By asking these "why not more males/stallions" etc. questions... you are really only contradicting your past self.

By all means, if you're okay with contradicting yourself... go ahead and ask.  But your going to get the same obvious answers every time.

Now, hear me out on this - I'm not out to be a dream crusher or anything negative at all.  I'm just being honest and blunt.  I think it's wonderful to ask questions, to ask why not's, and really it's still an innocent question to ask "why not more stallions" - but, talking amongst ourselves rather than actually talking to someone from Hasbro likely won't do much to help.  Just saying.
Should Hasbro ever decide to do it - to make more male centered episodes - power to'em, and I'll love them like any other episode.  I'm not against it.  I'm just a realist

I like that MLP:FiM is a show that purposely focuses on the characters who are young women and girls. That's always been the purpose of MLP, and that isn't a bad thing. One of the things that makes this show amazing is that it features a core cast entirely made of women and it still is a huge success among men and women alike. This is one of the girl-targeted shows that is actually well-written and animated instead of being treated like a shallow, frivolous, and trite show (like most "girly" cartoons are). The success of female-lead shows encourages producers to keep making empowered female shows like this instead of thinking that shows NEED to have dudes in the spotlight in order to be successful and keep audiences of all genders. It encourages change. It encourages better shows for young girls - shows that are about being strong and learning and friendship, not about boys and make-up and shopping and stereotypical girl-drama.

I don't want male characters to be in the spotlight. That negates the purpose of MLP:FiM. The males are not why I watch the show. I watch it for the females, and I think it should stay that way. Women should be able to have the spotlight in a show without people being like "what about the men!?" especially since it is a show primarily made for girls. If you are a guy who enjoys the show, you should be secure enough in your masculinity to enjoy it for its inherent femininity instead of enjoying it despite its femininity and needing more of a male presence. Plus, as many others have pointed out, there would literally be no point to focusing on the males plot-wise.

Highly doubtful as it would ruin the dynamic of the show. Though I would encourage working male characters into incidental roles more often and once in a while as a supporting character, that is after we fix Spike, first and foremost.

We are supposed to promote equality... Also if you need a kids show to empower women you are out of control.

@,Yet i don't really see an episode where the characters are actually split in focus... and just because it works doesn't mean it's right... I personally believe it isn't... and i'd very much like it wouldn't stay like that.
