Treeboy 418 February 16, 2013 Share February 16, 2013 I've been wanting to get into grindcore/deathcore type bands I'm already a big fan of Pig Destroyer and I've been wondering If there are any other bands that I will like If you want grind then you gotta go with Nails. They have a new album coming very soon entitled "Abandon All Life," and they combine elements of grind, powerviolence, sludge, and doom into this massive wall of sound that is simply second to none (except PD of course). Their debut, "Unsilent Death," is extremely short, but extremely satisfying. And for deathcore... hmm. Try Within the Ruins if you haven't already. They also have a full-length in the works called "Elite" that I'm pumped for. They do a lot of really technical, melodic work interlaced with some really nice breakdowns that don't over-br00talize everything. Or you could go down the road of Veil of Maya. Also a very technical group. I'm putting them in my signature for my next long-overdue album of the week. 1 I've got a story that money just can't buy. ~Asuka <3~ 867 February 16, 2013 Share February 16, 2013 All right, can someone recommend me some stuff by In Flames? I think I will try starting there. I believe I have heard a couple songs by them before and they weren't bad. I'm doing something real quick right now, so I won't post links. I know a Cannibal Corpse song and I like the guitar riff in it, but I just don't really like the vocals. Plus I hate the disgusting lyrics and album covers :/

Well I listened to both of those songs and I have to say that they are awesome I think Nails might be a new favorite band of mine And that Within The Ruins song was pretty damn good too ...I got nothing now. Well at least you tried If you want some Death Metal, Cannibal Corpse is a way to start: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9Spjr2Ou7M The spoiler tag is present because of Cannibal Corpses's famous box art. uuunph 288 February 16, 2013 Share February 16, 2013 All right, can someone recommend me some stuff by In Flames? I think I will try starting there. I believe I have heard a couple songs by them before and they weren't bad. Pretty much anything from their 2008 and 2011 albums, I would say. The newer stuff is pretty much alternative metal with melodeath influences, whereas the middle stuff (Clayman, RtR) is the other way around. The older stuff is full melodeath. To be more specific, I guess you should try "Cloud Connected", or "Alias". If the vocals are too harsh/soft, move down or up on their discography. Also, as Chaotic Twilight said, melodeath is a pretty easy way to get into any kind of death metal. I would also recommend at starting out with melodeath/metalcore mixes, since you like A7X. Like, I got into melodeath through metalcore as well, so it sounds like a good entry point to me. And ToBeATree mentioned Gojira, that's also a good point to start at. After hearing Book Burner by Pig Destroyer I think that I'd know how short most of them are And also a 20 minute long sludgy song at the end sounds good to me Since my favorite kind of metal is the more Sludgier type stuff Book Burner is nice, even for someone like me who doesn't listen to much grindcore. I really liked Nasum's "Inhale/Exhale" album. Doesn't have any long sludgy stuff though.

Treeboy 418 February 16, 2013 Share February 16, 2013 De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas > Deathcrush. I'm telling you it's true. Rather than having the lyrical content of a slam death band and the production of stale crackers, DMDS has much more atmosphere, chilling lyrics, and is a bit cleaner and less muddy than Deathcrush. Oh well. Opinions. I've got a story that money just can't buy. ALBUM OF THE WEEK: The Knife - Shaking the Habitual
Halfblood 364 February 16, 2013 Share February 16, 2013 So if I were to try to get into death metal, where would be a good place to start? I typically don't like the vocals in death metal, so if you guys could maybe recommend me something with more tolerable vocals or something? Also, as Chaotic Twilight said, melodeath is a pretty easy way to get into any kind of death metal. I would also recommend at starting out with melodeath/metalcore mixes, since you like A7X. Like, I got into melodeath through metalcore as well, so it sounds like a good entry point to me. 100% agree. Melodeath is that sweet gateway into the wild brutal yonder. Definitely give those bands that Chaotic Twilight mentioned, and like ToBeATree said, Gojira is a good start. @, Some of my melodeath suggestions would be Solution .45, as they tend to have more clean vocals (good clean vocals, mind you) than they do growls. I'll admit, I'm kinda of a Christian Alvestam fanboy: Deadlock is also pretty good; they got dual female/male vocals going on, with their male vocals growlin' and their female vocals doin' the cleans. It goes for a good combination. Here's one of my favorites from them (don't mind that intro): Also, if you haven't listened to them already (because I know they've been mentioned at least 100 times here) give Opeth's Damnation album a listen. That one features all clean vocals and slower prog rocky tempos. It's not death at all, but it may lean you into the band's more eclectic form of heavier stuff, which mostly falls under death. Even if it doesn't quell your death metal curiosity , it's a good mo'fn album to chill to. If you wanna see, go on and tear it outta me!

They're even heavier on the synthesizers than SS was. Speaking of which, they're totally not at all like some sort of "Scar Symmetry v2", like some people would say. Might sound a bit like it on first listen, but they're way different. Of course, I prefer Solution .45 to SS. Man, everyone loves Alvestam. Even Alvestam probably loves Alvestam.

Up From The Ashes 56 February 16, 2013 Share February 16, 2013 As much as I love Heavy Metal and such, I say I point into another direction of Metal. To a name we all recognize, Black Sabbath. Now to some who I may call upon, I mean no offense but, those who say Sabbath died after Ozzy left are simple minded. Believe it or not, I actually prefer Black Sabbath after Ozzy. Dio (Rest in Peace)himself really brought new life to the band on their first album of only two albums with him, Heaven and Hell (1980). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUjUIP2ugG4 Even Ian Gillian, former Deep Purple vocalist, didn't stop from releasing what was regarded at the time as worst metal album, Born Again (1983) But,I find it a bit nostalgic now and holds some value over this crap we see in today's Deathcore and... *shudders* Black Veil Brides... A good song from this album would be Zero the Hero (with The Dark, a creepy ambiance intro.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqEo-gg7mE8

Treeboy 418 February 16, 2013 Share February 16, 2013 Watched some demonstrations for "Telos" off the newest BTBAM album, and I like Dan's bass video the most.
