I haven't heard enough Dio to know if I like his stuff or not but I knew there was a reason I loved 3 Inches of Blood, these guys just have amazing guitar work. Not to mention them keys on fire at 3:30!

 

Only Dio song I know is Holy Diver and I don't like Dio's version of it at all. Killswitch Engage's version is better imo. (I'm told this is a form of blasphemy lol)

Admittedly, I haven't listen to much classic metal ('cept for Motorhead) but you can't just say "I don't like the Dio VERSION"!

 

I'm just messin' with you at this point. The Killswitch Engage version I honestly like, but the scream can become a turnoff in certain points. Other than that, everythign else is fantastic.

If you want to listen to more Dio I'd recommend Rainbow In The Dark, Don't Talk To Strangers, and Mystery for starters. If you think those songs are boring as well, then oh well lol

Wouldn't say blasphemy, really. Killswitch had better guitar tone. I prefer Dio's singing, but I grew up with that song in my life, so I'm very bias.

I actually think the screaming spices up the song a little but it's definitely not the reason I think it's better. That goes to the guitar and drums, I like my guitar and drums heavier. (Part of why I love Disturbed is because they have a pretty heavy bass drum kick.) Plus the video is epic but funny at the same time. Makes for a weird combination but it works.

Posting Revocation because Dave Davidson (vocalist/guitarist) is a talented bastard. Surprising for a Death Thrash band with Jazzy influences ('specially in the solos).

Okay, I actually have heard Rainbow in the Dark before, I just forgot about it. After listening to these three songs I will admit that Dio is pretty good. It's just Holy Diver I don't like so much.

I will fully admit that part of the reason I like KSE's version better is because I heard it first and loved it but I do still have the ability to listen to a song without bias as well and even doing so I just find Dio's version so boring.

 

I tend to be very blasphemous when it comes to music, like say...Micheal Jackson's Smooth Criminal? I actually like the Alien Ant Farm version better. Though in that case I still like the original Smooth Criminal.

I've never particularly been a fan of Metallica's vocals though. Old or new it's just never been that good except when he's doing the calmer voice like in Nothing Else Matters and Unforgiven 1-3.

You know what? I have a few things to say about this.

 

A ) Normally I like my metal more clean (if you know what I mean) but this song really drew me in. Maybe because it was a cover of a song I already knew? I dunno. I really liked it regardless.

 

B ) That growling is actually some of the best growling I've heard in a long while.

 

C ) I actually love the sound of the solo even MORE in this song than I do the original. I dunno what it is but the solo in this version is amazing the way it combines multiple chords like that.

 

I'm gonna say overall I like BTBAM's version more actually despite the fact that it's not as clean as the Metallica version. I don't headbang throughout an entire Metallica song ever, usually during solos I'll air guitar and sometimes headbang during a riff or two but the BTBAM version had me headbanging throughout and it almost sounded like it was gonna blast my earphones into not working but man was it worth it. Badass/10
