I don't see why you would think they are despised, I think they are pretty good, have a great sound and I have many of their albums but they are definitely not the top of my list.

How about some good old thrash...well not old to be exact. I actually had not of heard of them until quite recently about when their album Time Is Up came out in 2011.
I think they have a pretty solid sound.

I don't hate Slipknot.  I don't like the direction they took after Iowa, but eh.  That's just me.

My favorite Slipknot album is probably their 3rd one, which was right after Iowa. I also like Iowa a lot too. I don't care much for their album All Hope Is Gone, though.

Vol III has to be my favorite Slipknot album. It had a pretty unique feel and they seemed to experiment a lot with different sounds. It was a lot more "grown up" then their previous two albums, and some of the songs on it kind of reminded me of their demo. All Hope is Gone was a hit and miss for me, but I wish they continued to go in the direction of Vol III.

Edit: The drums are so programmed in this song, that they sound like sound effects for an alien invasion or something. Alternating vocal styles really work well in this one, if you ask me. I still do love this band, even if a ton of there stuff is a bit repetetive and hard to listen to.

This entire album is great.  A heavy does of prog/tech metal.  They've been described as a mixture of Scale the Summit and BTBM.

Sometimes I just get really, really angry at how hypocritical that people can be. Metalheads are the ones trying to convince people that we're all mature adults (and young adults  ) and that metal is not for children, right?  Then I'm reminded of how much immature shit they throw on some people or bands. Worst example? Oceano. They have a black vocalist, and the massive amount of hate and prejudice is outright despicable. I don't think that he's the  greatest vocalist, but I still enjoy the band's music and DEFINITELY don't think it's because he's a "shitstain [racism 1]."

 

 

Same goes for bands like Asking Alexandria and Black Veil Brides. I don't like them and sure I dick around about them being scene and all but it's all in good fun. I respect what they do, at least. Better than I could ever do.

Haha, I think that the whole album is pretty good. That song is one of the highlights, in my opinion. Other good songs from that album would be Luck as a Constant, Ragnarok, Mile Zero, and Masamune, but some will disagree. It's all a matter of preference, really. It's 69 minutes long, so it'll definitely keep you occupied.

One of the comments in the video has the times where each song starts, or you can search them individually on YouTube.

 

HOWEVER, Periphery I is just as solid of an album. It's a bit tougher to listen to because it's alot more technical and the growling is a bit lackluster, but I think I like it more. It does sound very different than II though and you seem to be liking that so I'd stick with that at least for now. It clocks in at 75 minutes long.

Plus, Periphery I has this song which I absolutely adore for some reason.

 

EDIT: Do you like power metal? I feel like you would like power metal alot.

Nothing I listen to is power metal, so I have no idea if I would like it or not. It's not something I've ever gotten into.
