okay look, before skyward sword arrived, I had played nearly every Zelda game, and then skyward sword came out.

I feel like I was the ONLY one who liked it, and I still feel that way. everywhere I go, I hear hatred for it.

Even Egoraptor just uploaded a video, where you bitched about the game.

am I alone?

is it really that bad?

No, you're not alone. I loved Skyward Sword. Only parts I hated were the Spirit World things, for how tedious they were.

that is a good question I dont like it because everything is in the sky I've never played it but I hope to or at least watch a lp of it to see if its actually good and I didnt like Twilight Princess also because they rushed the hell out of the plot in the beginning I think The Legends of Zelda just isnt doing as well as they use to but the DS ones were great

I liked it, though it's not one of my favorites. I like every Zelda game. Majora's Mask, Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker are just better. The motion controls worked for me personally. You're not alone.

Really? It is one of my favorite Zelda games of all time,I am not even a fan of motion controls and those worked great in this game for the most part the story was one of the best in the series and it was fun.

I don't hate it, but I thought all the other 3D console Zelda games were better. I had an issue with the game design at some points, and also the motion controls were frustrating because they sometimes wouldn't work quite right.

I never really got the impression that it was hated, BUT it did seem like it was quickly forgotten not long after its release.

I need to get that game one day...

It don't think it was hated. I feel it was more that it became irrelevant. It's kind of like how Amanda Todd was relevant for 11 days. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't very memorable.

I like it so far (haven't finished it) but I really don't like Fi. That's just me though. And I'm inevitably comparing her to Midna, who is my favourite Zelda character ever. (Twilight Princess was the first game I ever completed.) I love Twilight Princess, though I understand most people don't, and I think it just pales in comparison personally. If you compare it to the awesome Ocarina of Time, it's not that hard to see why people are hating it- they are comparing it to other Zelda games. In it's own right, it's a fun, good game.

I love Skyward Sword, but I do think it has one glaring issue:  way too much mandatory hand-holding.  I feel I'm a reasonably patient person, and this game did test that a few times.

And a lot of people say the motion controls don't work right, which..ehh.  My experience with the controls was mostly positive, but there were a few things that were broken and inconsistent.  Swordplay was almost always perfect for me, so was flying, but controlling the Beetle and swimming almost never worked properly (the game would act as if I was tilting the controller very far to the left when I was holding it flat...which is odd because the same tilt mechanic was used for flying and, as said, flying was never a problem).

I didn't hate it, and I liked the motion controls. I just thought that it was a disappointing title overall. It's been a while since I played the game (right after release), but I remember being disappointed about how repetitive it was (retreading through a dungeon twice, fighting a non-story boss more than once, etc.) and I remember finding some of the 'missions' in the second half of the game to feel very tacked on and frustrating.

I dunno, some people just like to nitpick about the motion controls, Fi, and the admittedly rather backtrack-y structure, but I myself see those things as an innovative control scheme, a somewhat annoying companion who really wasn't too bad, and a lot of richly dense areas... it's a great game really imo(though I have not played it since I rented and beat it when it came out), but eh, people have opinions. :/

I honestly had no idea that people disliked Skyward Sword, I would have thought that people loved it, since it's technically the first game of the series story-line.

What? I was pretty sure the game was getting high ratings from pretty much everyone that played it, from paid critics to the average joe with the blog. I guess the popularity might have dipped a bit (let's be honest, it was pretty heavy on the backtrack and whatnot), but nowhere near as bad as you make it sound. This isn't Final Fantasy XIII we're talking about here.

My guess?

1.) It's not Orcarina of Time so therefor it is bad

2.) It didn't exist when they were a kid so therefore it is bad

3.) They somehow managed to make a companion worse than Navi. That deserves an award.

But honestly I liked it. Though the motions were sometimes frustrating to do, I expected that because that's the case with all Wii games. I liked the fact that there were multiple characters that go through an arc in this game, and the fact that they got a water temple to be good

For me Twilight Princess will always be my favorite, but I still loved Skyward Sword! The only thing I have to say about it is I would have preferred more open world exploration. More of that adventurous feeling instead of separate landscapes with proper boundaries.

Some dislike of it might stem from the fact that it doesn't really do anything new.  I haven't played it, but it's my understanding that it's very similar to Princess Twi, I mean Twilight Princess, (see what I did there?) and basically just rehashes the locations from there.  But this isn't anything new.  Zelda games all follow the same template.  How many times have we killed (or at least "defeated") Ganon?  But that's fine with me.  I still love Zelda games.

Only reason I didn't want to play it is because of stupid motion controls.  I'm not vehemently opposed to all motion gaming.  Wii Sports is amusing.  But I don't want to wave the friggin remote around for a long rpg.  Give us an option, dammit!  If you could use a gamecube controller for Skyward Sword, then I woulda been all up in that.  But since you can't, then I'm retiring from the Zelda series.  At least until you can plug yourself in like the Matrix and actually go there.
