Megas 27,820 August 11, 2014 Share August 11, 2014 (edited) Why is mean spiritedness looked down upon. In a way, it strengthens the show and shows that everything isn't all cupcake and parties It's probably because of the nature of the show The Mane-6's treatment of Discord, when he was trying to be there friend. Except for Fluttershy, they are all asses Their treatment of Discord is perfectly justified - Pinkie Pie: Acting as an asshole to Fluttershy thrice and rubbing in her win to Big Mac, who was clearly in pain from injuring his vocal chords. - Rainbow Dash: Abusing the animals in May the Best Pet Win and the narrative treating it as nothing. Not gonna lie, I've always felt like these were gross overreactions, yet somehow they're always common complaints Edited August 11, 2014 by Megas75

frecklesareblooming 225 August 11, 2014 Share August 11, 2014 (edited) The scene with Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Rarity in "Putting Your Hoof Down". My favorite character beating her best friends into the ground and insulting their reasons for existing was the most hateful scene in the series, in my opinion. It slandered her character more than enough and she's still making up for it. It's the only episode I refuse to watch over again. Ashen Pathfinder 16,162 August 11, 2014 Share August 11, 2014 Diamond Tiara in Flight to the Finish takes the cake for me. I didn't find much to complain about with Pinkie in Filly Vanilli or Trixie in Magic Duel. THIS! Honestly, mean-spirited might be a little too kind of a phrase. Diamond literally tore Scootaloo's mental state into shreds and set it on fire. Granted Scootaloo got out of it with some help, but still...ouch. 1 Pathfinder I Sojourner I Corsair | Zu'hra I Autumn | Scarlet Willow | Gypsy | Silverthorn | Crystal Whisper | Radiant Historia | And many other OCs~ Matching signatures with mah Bestie MOONLIGHT <

SBaby 660 August 11, 2014 Share August 11, 2014 (edited) I for one think that Canterlot Wedding was perfectly justified. Twilight was smiling after she made Cadence run away in tears, she just got a time out for her actions. Really, the fact that it wasn't harsher punishment is amazing. I am aware it was Chrysalis, but come on, she smiled whilst she called her out. She smiled because she thought she was doing the right thing. And invariably, she was. As I said before, what did the other ponies know about Cadence before this episode? Not a thing, besides the two-minute description they got from Twilight. So they basically were willing to throw away two years of friendship with the pony that saved Equestria twice, over someone they met less than a day ago, someone that Twilight would know better than any of them. As I said, they redeem themselves a bit when they apologize, but it still felt mean-spirited, especially after all they went through together. Celestia on the other hand, should have pulled Twilight aside and asked her why she felt the way she did, or what the spell looked like. She knew going into this that there was a threat to the wedding. That's what the conversation between her and Luna at the beginning of the episode was about. On top of that, she doesn't even apologize when it turns out Twilight was right. Not only was that mean-spirited, but it was also irresponsible of her, especially since she knew going into this that there was a threat. I still liked these episodes. I just think there could have been a better way to do the lesson of the day that didn't feel so mean-spirited. Of course, your mileage may vary when it comes to these issues. But that's just how I felt about it. Edited August 11, 2014 by SBaby A Winner Is You!!!

Zefir 34 August 11, 2014 Share August 11, 2014 End of song "Stop the bats" - 1:51 - Fluttershy being circled by her friends, chanting their decision at her angrily (well, except for Pinkie Pie, but only for one moment). SBaby 660 August 12, 2014 Share August 12, 2014 (edited) IT'S A TIME OUT! THEY AREN'T THROWING AWAY ANY FRIENDSHIP, THEY'RE LEAVING TWILIGHT ALONE TO THINK ABOUT WHAT SHE'S DONE! They literally turned their back on Twilight, after she tried numerous times to explain that she was acting completely out of character. They weren't giving her a time-out. They were siding with someone they only met that day, as evidenced by previous scenes in the episode. Let's see, who is a better source on military information, a captain of the guard or a civilian with no military training what so ever? I would say the rightful wielder of the MacGuffin of Magic who already defeated two evil beings that Celestia herself could not, is a better source of information than someone we only met less than a day ago. There was a giant shield covering Canterlot and Shining Armor was able to explain everything. There was no proof what so ever So why would they need to be guarding Canterlot if the barrier was up? Because there was a threat they knew about. The security was already there BECAUSE they knew there was a threat. If the shield was all they needed, they wouldn't have had to have the soldiers there, or Luna and Celestia taking watch. So the only logical explanation for it is that Celestia realized there was still a possibility of some kind of attack from within. Edited August 12, 2014 by SBaby A Winner Is You!!! Cwanky 17,607 August 12, 2014 Share August 12, 2014 I'm gonna say 1 that a lot of people may disagree with, but Tirek's outright rejection and betrayal of Discord was not only cold, it was thoroughly without compassion. Yes I get that Discord betrayed Fluttershy and the Mane 6 and Equestria, but he truly put his trust, faith and loyalty in Tirek as a friend. What did he get in return? Not even a thank you, just a thorough manipulation and betrayal. What Tirek did was basically say that "this amulet and all the care you put into it reflecting our time together means jack shit to mean. You're nothing more than trash to me now." Discord truly lost everything as he said. His trust in Tirek as well as the trust of others and their friendship. As a betrayal and one of trust, it makes the scene all the worse.

sweetolebob18 728 July 25, 2015 Share July 25, 2015 IDK if I'd call it the worst, but I will point out that Pinkie supposedly throws a party for every pony that comes to town. But, in Griffon the Brush Off the only reason she throws a party for Gilda is to troll her. Yes, by that time Gilda deserved it (or at least, you could make the case) but why no party when Gilda 1st came to town? Also, the way Pinkie treats Twilight in Feeling Pinkie Keen & Winter Wrap Up, the way she trolls Dash in Super Speedy ... 6000, the way she treats Zecora in Bridle Gossip, Luna in Luna Eclipsed, or Fluttershy in Milli Filli In short, Pinkie can not only be mean, she can be damn mean. She mostly gets by with it because everyone assumes "Oh, she is just an airhead, completely clear from ear to ear. She didn't realize what she was saying" IMO, she is not 1/2 as dumb as everyone thinks & she did so mean it.
----------------------- 171 July 25, 2015 Share July 25, 2015 Fluttershy being mean at Pinkie and Rarity in PYHD was pretty harsh. Basically seeing Pinkie tear up like that from a friend she was always cautious with was very mean-spirited. And I agree, when Shining Armor falsely accused Twilight, things got serious. Especially when Celestia joined in.
