Why is AJ so popular?

AJ the most popular? Maybe on the forums? But if that's the case, it's just a coincidence.

She's still mocked for being 'best background pony'. And in merchandise, she's often 'forgotten'.

I'm gonna toss this out, but the thread originally said "why is AJ so "unpopular"?"

Who ever corrected it must have messed up and accidentally removed the "un-" and the quotations

I feel like AJ has a loyal following, but I wouldn't call her popular.  I felt so bad yesterday, my friend has a table at the BronyCon vendor Hall, he made 17 different plushes, and the last one to sell was AJ, and she was alone on the table for an hour before someone bought her.

I don't think she gets enough love.  She's not my favorite pony, but she's still a great character, even if she doesn't face the same kinds of problems the others do.

I would have bought your friends' AJ plush in a heartbeat!!! I am saving up for the Build A Bear Applejack too which I heard is selling nicely but it breaks my heart that your friends' plush did not sell sooner and that Build A Bear did not release her sooner! :'(

I love Applejack because I see my own stubbornness in her and she is just awesome and adorable! She totally needs more love and is NOT a background pony!!!

Applejack is actually my favourite of the six. She's grounded, down to earth, usually a good counter to the impulsiveness of Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie, to the worrying of Twilight, and the style-consciousness of Rarity. I actually see her as the most developed of the characters, made even more so by recent, much better episodes focusing on her such as Leap of Faith, Pinkie Apple Pie and, last season, Apple Family Reunion. That doesn't make her boring or predictable, but a stalwart, reliable member of the cast that would be sorely missed if she actually were to disappear.

That explains a lot :) 'Why is AJ so unpopular?' makes far more sense.

Applejack boring? Possibly. But to say she's a useless character? No way.

Applejack takes her family values and places them on her friends, making them her second family. She gives them advise, listens, and help the other's in their time of need whenever she can. She's much more grounded, so she's able to give the others a different view on their problems, and not over react during those said problems. She's helps keep everyone together, and while she isn't my favorite pony, I can definitely appreciate her character and what she truly brings to the Mane Six's friendship.

In a group full of wizards, a logic defying party pony, a pony who can break the sound barrier and an animal whisperer saturated in innate shy cuteness, Applejack can come off as a little bland to some people. I've always appreciated her more down to earth nature amongst these personalities, and I think calling her boring is unfair.

I sometimes think of her like Batman amongst the Justice League. She doesn't have special powers and that makes her even cooler to me.

For the accusations of being a background pony, I think AJ wouldn't mind this due to her humble nature. Her humility is just one of many reasons why AJ is such a great pony :)

That's a new perspective I hadn't heard before!

She would likely raise one eyebrow at the person who called her a background Pony. :smug:

Well, well, well... I've seen many-a thread about "Why so serious unpopular?" as well as the other way around.

Normally I'd be gearing up and defending Applejack, since she's my favorite.

But, you know what everyone?  I've never cared about popularity.  Not for myself.  Not for music.  Not for anything.  Because why should everyone else have to like something before I can like it?  Popularity is overrated.  I don't like things based on other people's opinions - I like them based on my own opinions.

I like Applejack because I relate to her the most.

Applejack is the most down to earth of the main cast, and is kind of like a voice of reason and a secondary leader. In a show full of characters with such bright personalities, she adds a nice balance to things.

All of the main characters are great in their own ways. I don't think any of them are unpopular. Personally however, my favorite by far is Rainbow Dash.

Applejack cares for her family and is hard working good role model, fairly relatable if I do say so myself!

Plus on top of that, her character has an amazing singing voice! My favourite of the mane 6!

She's a great character, and she genuinely care for those around her. I wouldn't know where to start if I had to pick out faults!

She truly fits the ideal "Earth Pony" in my eyes, so congrats to her!

I suppose I could go off on a rant about how Applejack compares to other characters and why she is underrated and wrongfully neglected by many despite being part of the starting cast, but I'll offer these words instead.

Applejack is my favorite pony not because she's necessarily awesome or extraordinary. Its not magic, beauty, or some fancy acrobatics or theatrics that lure me to her. Applejack is simply put, down to earth.

Honestly its not even that I relate to her. In fact I may be as far apart from her compared to the others. What draws me to Applejack is that she has such a respectable and approachable personality. She's the neighbor I would want, the big sister that I can admire.

Anyone who says Applejack has no room to mature is being a silly filly.  :toldya: Says who? You don't know Applejack better than herself. Besides, she's not entitled to her happiness with her family and friends. Its 1 thing watch a maturing character face challenges. Its a whole different, but equally exciting experience to watch a mature character face those challenges, albeit in a different manner.

In more ways than 1, Applejack is the person I hope to become and the person I respect as a friend.  :smug:

I like AJ and I think she is perfect for one of the Mane 6 but she is my least favorite. I can't give an actual reason why though..

AJ is my favorite, I even have an AJ related tattoo (although I have a lot of tats, but still). I tend to connect with AJ more than the other ponys. I am from Indiana and Spend most my time on a farm or ranch riding horses, and I would like to have the kind of family that she does one day.

But overall, I find that her ability to get things done is what I like best about her. When everyone gets worried or freaking out, its always cool calm and collected AJ to buckle down and get things going. With her parents gone and a little sister and grandmother to take care of, she isnt as silly or reckless as the other ponys because she has ponys who rely on her. She is humble, and a lot of her character you have to read between the lines in order to discover.

Firstly, I don't think that Applejack is unpopular. There's a big difference between having a smaller fanbase and being unpopular - something a lot of people seem to not understand.

Yeah, AJ has smaller fanbase compared to the rest of the main characters, but it doesn't mean that it's small. There's plenty of Applejack fans and they're as passionate as the fans of other characters and saying that she isn't loved is kinda unfair to them. Besides, quality is more important than numbers.

I've heard that she's "boring", "worst" or "background pony" so many times that it became repetitive and boring. And I don't think it proves that Applejack really is boring. If anything, it only proves that people for some reason think about her in a very stereotypical way. And I don't want to hurt anyone, but if you ask me - it's pretty stupid. Yes, AJ impersonates some stereotypes, but she ISN'T defined by them. She's a simple farmer and yet she saves the world along with her friends all the time. She's close to her family, yet we've never heard anything about her parents, there's a shadow on her past. Yeah, her dreams about being a good farmer came true and she has no further goals, but was it always that way? I don't think so. There's so much that we still don't know about her, how could anyone call her uninteresting? Applejack is not perfect, far from it, to be honest. But she tries, sometimes fails, sometimes learns the hard way. She still needs to learn a lot, she still changes - maybe not in as noticable way as Rainbow, for example, but she does.

If some people refuse to look deeper at her and her characters - it's their loss, not mine. But please, don't say that she's unpopular. She has a strong and passionate fanbase and there's plenty of people who like her for who she is, even if she's not their favorite.

I also think she may be slightly hindered by having an interesting family.  So often when she has a scene she winds up sharing it with others we also like and draw a bit of focus off of AJ.
