Will Bronies ever be FULLY accepted?

As awesome as it would be no I don't think bronies will ever be accepted by everyone. But I feel like lots of people get teased for what they love. Don't let it get ya'll down though because we're here for each other through thick and thin!

I don't think it will go away completely, there will still be some people who can't tolerate or understand what we do and why. A lot of racism in the world has gone (at least from what I've seen), but it still exists and there are instances of people acting bigoted today. In time, things can definitely get better to the point where most people will accept us, but it will take a while before those days can come.

In all due honesty, I think you're overreacting OP, though to be fair, you aren't the only one. I really don't think Bronies are hated, so much as shrugged off like any other part of less mainstream culture, and before becoming a Brony, I always just thought of Bronies as no different than any other group of adults who enjoys shows for little girls: a little unusual, but none of my business. I investigated the so called anti-Brony cult, and I don't think it's nearly as huge as it's made out to be. It appears to be a small group of immature brats, who are quite vocal, but are in the minority. All of their vids on YouTube that I've seen got more dislikes than likes, and not even by just a small margin. The Internet is known for making vocal minorities seem bigger than they actually are, and I think that's very much the case here.

Otherwise, I highly doubt the vast majority of non-Bronies give Bronies a second thought. As for the acceptance part, well, as long as there's a stigma attached to anything not enjoyed by the average person, I think the best we can hope for is indifference, and in general, most people are indifferent to things they aren't interested in, so I think we're accepted now, just as much as any other media based sub-culture.

who cares? normal people are boring and have boring views,  the whole idea of bronies is to spite normal people and views (in my view).

so normal people will always attack what they dont understand.

What I have to contribute to this topic is that: (please don't misunderstand this) I guess you could imagine bronies as a different race. Like the African Americans, Asians, whites, latinos, etc. at first, some of them were persecuted, and hated. Now that society has realized that it really doesn't matter, they accept them without even really thinking about it. They're just another person, nothing wrong with them, just that maybe their skin is a different color, or their outlook on life isn't the same. Nevertheless, there are still people in the world who hate other races, as there will always be hate directed at every change. In my opinion, eventually we will be accepted, but not everyone will think the same of us.

Unpopular opinion here, but just the word "brony" leaves a sour taste in my mouth. It's fine to identify with the term, but what society needs to do is not treat bronies like they're all one big hivemind with the same mindset and same way of presenting themselves.

There are a lot of worse things to like than ponies, so to me, it's pathetic and socially regressive that there isn't a term I can call myself to be loosely tied to an interest without being bashed for it.

Now, I'll be honest, we're not entirely the victims. People who hate "bronies" in general are only really judging an entire fandom based on people who are a bit too passionate about it (ones who fit a negative stereotype). In the case of the majority of the fandom, it's hard to tell what they like without asking them, so they're not the issue at hand. I guess it's understandable people get sick of seeing it everywhere shoved in their faces, but that's a given with something to this scale.

The unrealistic goal: Keep what we like to ourselves to some degree and give a good reflection of the fandom's actual common mindset (or lack of), and then it's up to society to stop being ignorant and get over themselves. It's just a show.

But no, I don't see that ever happening.

Not fully accepted no, nothing has ever been fully accepted, nerds in general are still not fully accepted, no social group or any person is fully accepted by anyone, there will always be people who like to be jerks and aggravate people based on the group they are in.

But, it will get better, infact, it is already much better I think. As time has gone on, I think the dislike has certainly shrunk, and we have become more accepted.

Are we anywhere close to full acceptance? No, do people still act like jerks and troll bronies and think of them as the scum of the earth, or all as pedophiles like the media wants to hypnotize them into believing? Yes.

But it has improved, and I think as times goes on, it'll get better and better. Never perfect of course, but better.

They're never really going to be accepted in normal society... My Little Pony is still considered a show for little girls, and some people will just never get over that. People may forget about the brony fandom, but until then they're still going to find it strange and wrong.

Nothing is ever fully accepted, there will always be close-minded, stubborn people who will dislike something simply because it's different. But, the longer the show goes on and the longer this fandom lasts, and shows the world that its' content isn't just a flaky fad that will die out after a while, the more people will accept it for what it is, even if they aren't interested in it, themselves.

tbh I think most of the hate is reserved for people who go out and say that they're Bronies. Although I'm not naïve enough to think that those who simply say they like MLP when asked, instead of shoving their love of the show in everyone's face would get much less hate, I think a lot of the people who don't accept Bronies can be reasoned with, and I had one person on Youtube going from saying that all "Bronies are selfish" to "I don't hate all Bronies, just the crappy ones". I think the Bronies who shove the show in everyone's face is what causes the hate, and the stereotype is the excuse they need to talk bad about the show.

That is not entirely true. I have gone to Youtube and found plenty of discussions where a brony was involved and they were promptly insulted. I have even had this happen to myself. I made a post concerning a Youtuber and some people said that my opinion was invalid because I like a show for 'little girls'. Sometimes it may not seem like it, but the bullshit gender roles that this society has clinged to for so long is still there and people are still as deluded as ever. The only difference is that fans of shows like these are increasing day by day so there is that, but the gender role nonsense is still completely there and the drones of society will do anything to keep it that way it seems, even to the point of insulting other people just for liking a cartoon.

With that said, most likely, Bronies will never be fully accepted, not until these arbitrary gender roles nonsense disappears. America seems pretty keen on not making progression in a lot of ways so that might take a long while. I really wish this wasn't the case but it sadly is, for now.

Yeah, I've had similar things happen and do see it, not terribly often but often enough. Hate'll never go away for anything unfortunately, and Bronies will likely stand as one of those things where that'll be especially true. :okiedokielokie:

Nothing is ever fully accepted, there are people who still believe that the Earth is flat for example. But there are a lot of things that we take for granted that were once considered deviant and I don't mean during the dark ages either. During the 50's all these politicians and parents were freaking out about comics and accused them of encouraging "juvenile delinquency" and part of a plot by the "Communists" to brainwash the youth. Today even most people who aren't into comics knows that is BS, if anything comics culture in America is actually more mainstream than ever before. Things that were stereotyped as the exclusive province of pasty faced men in their 30's living in their mothers basement or "geek" culture is now considered not only mainstream but even hip. Give it another 20 or 30 years and I think the same thing will happen with MLP.

Nope. The trolls will never go away because as long as we feed the trolls (Which we constantly do), they will keep trolling. Haters won't go away because most are too stupid to actually watch the show before they hate on it. As more people find out about bronies, we will gain more friends and we will gain more "enemies". It is a cycle that won't end until people decide to shut the hell up and let people have their own likes and dislikes. But there will always be the people that accept us, and they are the ones that should be focused on instead of the trolls and haters.

Never. Nothing is truly ever accepted wholly in society. Star wars has been around for 37 years.  Star trek fans been around for 47 years.  Doctor Who fans have been around for over half a century. Superman is part of American nomenclature for nearly 80 years. All the people who are into those things are viewed as childish geeks and nerds. Even actions like buying comics, playing video games, playing card games, watching cartoons, dressing in costume, are still viewed as childish things, despite evidence to the contrary.

It even goes far beyond the scope of ones interests. What society finds odd and unacceptable spreads to status, wealth, nationality, descent, occupation and religious outlook.  To put it bluntly, in america, you are only normal if you are a part of an american born, middle class, christian, heterosexual, monogamous, Caucasian family, of Anglo-Saxon descent, consisting of a husband who brings home the cash in a white collar job who drinks beer and watches the game after work, a wife who cooks cleans and raises the kid(s), consisting of a daughter that plays w/ dolls and plays house and or son who plays sports, all in a suburban neighborhood, at a house with a white picket fence.

Rarely is this ever the case for an american family, but we're all held to this crazy, dated standard. How the heck are grown men dedicated to a subculture revolving talking horses ever going to be socially accepted, when things like being raised by a single parent, living in a house w/ a working mom and a stay at home dad or being an immigrant are still viewed as different?

The world is full of people who don't understand certain things, and are afraid of some things changing, like gender norms, as well as too many close-minded individuals who won't listen to anything that they don't agree with, so, no, bronies will most likely always have oppression to deal with. It's sad, yes , and some people may not like to hear it, but it's the truth.

I highly doubt Bronies will ever be fully accepted. We've been around for quite some time now, and we still recieve flak. And that's nothing compared to how long video games have been around and still recieves lots of flak.

I'm not sure if the situation has improved or worsened for Bronies. But one thing's for sure, going outside of social norms is still weird for some people.

The furry fandom is still depicted as being perverted and is looked down upon, and that's a much older fandom...as much as I hate to say it I doubt the brony fandom will be fully accepted. :/

  • Is racism still a thing?
  • Is homophobia still a thing?
  • Is sexism still a thing?

If these matters are supposedly "resolved" but there is still a minority who actively opposes it, then it's obvious that there are still people who hate Bronies and the fandom will never fully be accepted.
