Could there be male alicorns?

I was just curious because at the moment we've only seen female alicorns but no male alicorns. Is it genetics meaning that only females can become alicorns? Or is it just that there hasn't been a male worthy enough to be one? Would you like there to be male alicorns?

I would there'd have to be.

I mean, the journal indicated that there were more alicorns back when Celestia & Luna were younger, so to me it wouldn't make sense if there were no male alicorns.

BUT MUH PRINCESS MERCH

Yeah probably. Will they ever show them? Really unlikely.

I only love you platonically.

As in plate tectonics.

As in two bodies sliding against each other.

There might be some out there, but I doubt we'll ever see one.

Well, in the comics, Pinkie Pie mentions Princess Luna's mom, which leads me to think there is a dad as well, who could be an alicorn. Though, it came up in one of Pinkie's random suggestions, so its credibility might not be that great. And it's in the comics, which may or may not be canon. So yeah, not the greatest proof, but it's something.

I don't see why there couldn't be a male alicorn though.

Can there be a male alicorn?

Of course there can be male alicorns.

Will we see them, no probably not. It's a stereotypical thing, back in the olden days kings ruled (most of the time). The queen really didn't do anything but make the king look good. So in this sense it seems the writers are taking this...um...history and giving women what they were denied. (presumably).

which comic is this mentioned in? I read the main up to the recent releases, and Friends forever up until the reason releases, and don't recall seeing Pinkie ever mention Luna's mom.

Issue #5; It's in the Nightmare Rarity story arc.

When Celestia and Luna first arrive, Luna says:

"Something is happening. Something I had hoped would never come to pass."

After that, Pinkie Pie starts shouting random suggestions, and one of them is: "Realize your mom was right about everything?!"

It's pretty random, but it's something.

Possibly, :D.  However, i have a feeling the writers want to stick to female Alicorns.  Yet, if male alicorns do appear, I hope they have a more "aggressive" personality.

Born alicorns like Celstia and Luna? Sure why not. Since the journal did indicate other alicorns, there is no reason unless given that there can't be born alicorn males somewhere in Equestria or on some other hidden plan, waiting to show up in either the show, comics or books.

Alicorns like Cadence and Twilight? Most likely not. Outside of SA, there really aren't any powerful male ponies that show a need to become an alicorn to fulfill their ultimate destiny in life, since more or less the only real reason for Cadence and Twilight ascension is that to fulfill their roles as masters of love& tolerance and friendship they needed to become alicorns to be able to tap into alicorn magic, due to it being so different from the other races and is somewhat more potent, thus allow for their powers to grow.

Unless Hasbro and the writers need SA to become a alicorn, I doubt will be seeing anymore alicorns like them for sometime.

Of course there's male alicorns. Have you not heard of Princess Big Mac?

The one true princess of Equestria. Celestia and Luna are both posers.

Anyway, it's probably possible, but we'll likely never see it due to the feminist nature of the show.

Praise be to Alicorn Princess Machintosh who leads Equestria with great strength of body, brevity of speech, and taste in fashion. In the name of the Shmoopy do, the Farm, and the smartypants forever may his yoke lead us on.

There's Celestia's cousin, Leon!

Idk how official he is.

What comic did this come from?

I suppose its possible. but no male has ever embodied a concept strongly enough to initiate the process. Just based on the nature of the show, it's unlikely, since we don't actually have any main male characters...

Celestia and Luna are the only born alicorns of Equestria, so they would be artificial alicorns like Twilight.

There's no reason whatsoever to believe that a stallion couldn't become an alicorn. But, as said before, we probably won't be seeing one in the show itself for the foreseeable, because Hasbro is more interested in selling princesses. It's not like we need more alicorns anyway. I suppose it is possible that an alicorn prince exists somewhere and we just haven't seen it though.

Still, if we did get a character to ascend, I'd prefer it to be Shining Armor, since he seems to be a good candidate. I don't know how the show would handle a story arc like that in a believable way though, as it seems a little too significant for the normal episodic affair, and side characters don't usually receive too much screentime anyway. We also don't really know exactly how ascension works anyway; presumably Shining is not an alicorn already because he doesn't meet some form of requirements.

Also, I'm not exactly a big fan of that male alicorn = princess joke.  :okiedokielokie:
