gaming Nintendo software only.

No, they shouldn't. No one makes hardware quite as creative(that actually works well) or games that take as much advantage of that hardware as Nintendo does.

I mean, I don't know what I'd do if there were no more dual-screen Pokémon games, or if the Wiimote was lost forever in time... would suck. :/

I don't think they'd make more money that way either. But I dunno, all I know is that they won't back down.

As much as I'd love to be able to play the next Zelda on my PC, something like that would kill them. Nintendo's strengths lie in the integration of the hardware and software, as Radiance64 mentioned.

I mean, look what happened to Sega. :(

RIP Dreamcast, too soon. Too soon...

I never really understood the reason for having two screens when you could just have one big one that can be split by software at will.  I mean.. I guess it's sort of ergonomic to fold the thing in on itself to protect the screens.. but...

No. Nonononono. I grew up with Nintendo handhelds and consoles, and they have always been the most creative and inovative IMO. They are always very functional and durable (unlike my xbox that got the red ring of death after 3 months of light play), and as for profit, they are still making enough to justify continuing develepment of hardware. Also, they have the market for handheld gaming in the palm of their hands, pretty much.

Nah. If they do, i'll be totally bummed, their machines are seriously underrated and deserve more love imo. Maybe because they don't get games on em' like Call of Duty that people trade them for Microsoft's Xbox Or a PS.

But their real strength lies in their portable consoles, the gameboy was considered revolutionary back in the day, and i'd still pick my trusty 3DS over anything made by others.

No, they should stay where they're at, but at least have some Nintendo titles become universal.

I mean, I like the Wii and all, but I shouldn't have to fork over another $300+ bucks for it just because I can't play Smash Bros on my Playstation.

Most people who say that are basically looking exclusively at the Wii U's financial failure. But honestly, who had one of the best selling consoles of all time, just recently? Nintendo did with the Wii, only being beaten by Sony's PS2. And who has had the best selling handhelds EVERY GENERATION? Nintendo does. People who say things like this are obviously biased in some regard and are ignoring a whole host of data that says that idea is a dumb one.

Nintendo has an unrivaled amount of creative control over their games; partly because they make both the games AND the systems.  The way they innovate with the hardware directly influences the games they develop, and they've created game play opportunities that didn't formerly exist.  And Nintendo is a STRONG brand - no matter what internet doomsayers might say.  I think part of the appeal of Nintendo is the exclusivity, and they've got a large stable of genuinely exclusive franchises.  And I won't pretend to understand business like most of the authors of clickbait articles out there, but I don't see how you can just suddenly abandon hardware and not take an enormous financial hit.  How long would it take the developers at Nintendo to adjust to making games for systems they've never developed for / had no plans to develop for??  Unique hardware + unique controller + unique software = Nintendo.

Short answer no, there just isn't any reason too, although I will say nintendo might have quite a struggle in generation 9 what with tablets taking over the portable games market and PC gaming growing in popularity.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo go along with the plan of letting Sony and Mircrosoft smash each other to pieces and market there consoles as a 3rd console. Which is why they never make their systems as graphically powerful as either the Xbox One or PS4.

I would hate to see them do so. I'm a huge Playstation nut, but Nintendo is a great video game company who put heart and soul into their games, be it Zelda, Metroid, or even Mario. It really boils my blood when I see people constantly bash Nintendo and say "They're for kids" No, they're not, they're for people of all ages. Sure third party software hasn't been great since the SNES, but their first party more than makes up for it. I don't appreciate it when some gamers are so disrespectful about them. And if they went software like Sega, you know a lot of haters would gloat and say "They were doomed for a long time."

NO! I love my 3DS and I always will. I don't play anything else, and if they'd stopped making games for 3DS I wonder why then turn on the public (if it was they're fault) like an angry lion.

Nintendo going software-only would probably do harm than good for both Nintendo with the gaming industry

Besides it'd be impossible, Nintendo's already said they'd rather go under than go 3rd party

Part of the charm and Nintendo's reputation is basically gaming.

Taking a step out there may seem beneficial but maybe.. Who knows, I certainly prefer their games over others. I can always count on Nintendo to give a family friendly game gift to my siblings and friends.

As a casual/non-gamer's perspective, I think they should continue making games.  :D
