Whenever I play an RPG I always give the characters the names of the mane 6, with roughly equivalent character perks and skills. For instance in Shadowrun Returns my character is a female elf called Twilight who is good at hacking and better at using social options to overcome obstacles than other classes. Anyone else use the mane 6 as presets for RPG's? It's pretty awesome.

I named a witch doctor character in Diable 3 Zecora once.

Outside of that, I don't usually like naming my RPG characters after other characters. I like to my own characters.

Do you give them detailed backstories and the like? I just used to do 'self-insert' RPing, meaning I would project my own traits onto the character but I gave up on that after a while because well real people are just far too nuanced to be replicated, and also I like to be go on murderous rampages in games and that wouldn't make sense based on my own persona. I find using the mane six as a basic template makes it easy because if you boil it down to the basics you have characters that are perfect for RPing. For instance Applejack is strong and loyal so would make an excellent melee fighter who makes virtuous choices and doesn't kill innocent people. Twilight is smart and dedicated so she can take on any non-combat skill and master it, such as lockpicking, hacking etc. Fluttershy is timid but defends her friends so I'd make her a sniper, Rainbow Dash would be good as submachine gunner or shotgunner due to high agility and high damage. Rarity would use only the most would have maxed out social skills for character interactions, she would also be good at crafting. PinkiePie would of course have to have a minigun and go on murderous rampages that's just how I see that one playing out. That's how my logic on this goes.

Are you insane? Of course I have, The Mane 6 and my OCs have been in many of my RPG adventures, mainly Skyrim and the Fallout series.

Usually with a matching personality or traits and if I can looks.

Detail some of your quests as the Mane 6 if you can, and how you played certain situations as the mane 6. Tell us of your travels.

Well, if I was playing as Twilight, I would usually have a high intelligence and speech, I would be very diplomatic and friendly towards most people in game. In Skyrim as Twily if there was someone who needed help in anyway possible I would be tactical and think out what to do rather than charge in and save whomever needed saving (The charging in was mostly for Rainbow Dash anyway)

So lets just say the Dark Brotherhood was out of the question in this play through but very well suited to my Horror OC.

Do naming Pokemon in my teams for Pokemon Showdown count? I have an Alakazam named Twilight lol, & I want to make a complete Pokemon team based on the mane 6 at some point. Otherwise I haven't named any of my actual characters after a pony... Yet...

Thank you Pinkamena-Pills for resizing the original, and putting that little message at the end

So if you have options for what color gear your character has, you try to get as close as possible to correct pony colors, right? 'Cause that would be weird otherwise.

Not in great detail. I'll have a general back story to set up motivation for the character and for how they act.

Exactly so. Hair color can be enough, as most RPG's don't let you wear pink outfits, and even if they did it would look ridiculous. Accessories are ideal if you can get them but most RPG's don't have those either.

Only once. I eventually got bored of it and renamed my RPG characters after the Five-Man Band trope, which I like a lot more. I still like to name a few characters after ponies from time to time, however. :P

I keep default names. I've never understood the appeal of changing names.

In the case that the game has you making the character I have a few names set up to use based on the setting (like my actual name for modern settings, a made-up name for fantasy settings) and I've never been much for roleplaying. I always pick perks that will be useful and dialog choices I would actually choose if I were there (or at least that would get me the best benefits).

I did that too, haha. I also named a crusader Rarity and used only the bottled cloud on every piece of gear I equipped, haha.

...And a wizard named Twilight Sparkle... And a barbarian named Applejack...

...Apparently I do stuff like this more than I realized...

:derp:

Maybe not the Mane 6 (it feels overdone to me, personally) but I use my OC(s) in pretty much everything.

Actually, most of my pony OCs, Tenor included, are old RPG characters that I carried from game to game ^_^

Usually I have a few names that I use on my characters based on the class or on other aspects but I've named a Dark Souls 2 character "Spike", and I'm planning on making a build that will suit him if he was a human, based on my own head-canon, I've also tried to make his face in the character editor and I had some results, other than that I've never named characters based on MLP: FiM or other franchises, I have my own characters and stories.

In Pokémon I have a Virizion named Rarity... I have also made humanized Mii caricatures of the Mane 6 if that counts(though there's Tomodachi Life which is a life sim RPG for Miis so I guess it can lol). I tend to adorn my Monster Huter character's armor with purple/white as well, but he is not named after Rarity nor myself...

Other than that though not really. :P

sometimes not really

in World of Warcraft I have a Deathknight named Fluttershyy who I never play as

in GTA V I nicknamed my classic corvette Flutterz

that's really all I can think of I know I have named my characters Fluttershy in other games just can't remember

oh when I play RPGs I usually name my characters

Snowflake Frostflame 90% of the time

if its a game where I need to name multiple people I use Snowflake and these

-Bradley Dragonwraith

-Adrian Silver

and

-Simon Blueblood

if its a female I will either name them

-Fluttershy

or

-Isabelle

if it has a default name then I keep it the way it is

I voted first choice, but I normally name RPG their official names. Create your character or avatar on the other hand, I always chose girl (Since I'm actually a dude), and name her Midnight Sparkle, after a demonic incarnation of our beloved Twily in a fic that I read (Inner Demons if you're curious ;) )

I did name a druid in WoW "Lulamoon", because I used up all my regular names, and something with "moon" just made sense. But I'm not much of a Trixie fan, so I never really liked the character  :eww:
