Sorry it's been so long since I wrote.  I had some anxiety issues I had to tackle, so I got put on some new meds to help. Side effects had me downed, then when they started to wear off, there were Christmas Eve, and then me helping to clean up the day after. And then I ran into a nasty stomach virus, that have kept me laying down most of the time. (Luck have not been with me. xD)

Things are beginning to improve though, and I am aiming to get started again here Sunday or Monday, if things continue to get better. Not easy to write, when I have to waddle between the bed at the toilet all the time, unfortunately.

Do know that I have not forgotten you though, and I am sorry it took so long for me to write here too. My mind's been occupied with things until then, and I do genuinely look forward to write with you folks again.

Quite happy you don’t remember Icy, honestly. From what I can gather looking back at what doesn’t hurt to read, it was before I’d smoothed the rough edges off her writing.

As for Dragonfly (Link to profile embedded in the name) well, this is what I wrote her profile for! There are things not explained there, though. If you want more information on anything in her profile (or not in it) I can give it! Happily, I love explaining extra bits and bobs surrounding or about Dragonfly.

There are things I would explain pre-emptively, but it’d be a lot all at once, and/or it’s not all entirely relevant. Like mentioned, I’d love to expand on anything.

Hey, sorry for it taking so long to get back to you. January have been a meddling month, and things just got out of hand, to where I forgot to return to you. Especially after I smashed my leg a few times, and got an infection. Everything's healing well, but then I had to help family move and... Yeah, hectic.

I looked over your character, and I find Dragonfly very fascinating. A new sort of pony, seems an interesting fit, and the story, as well as her personality, is well established and explained. A very solid bio there. The Opal is a peculiar addition too, that adds a bit of nuance that I like.

what sort of interaction are you looking for though  RP wise? I have some options in mind, seeing as there's talks of soul magic, and gems. So three comes to mind  where I can give a quick rundown. On phone though, so pictures lacking atm  sorry.

#1 Vivid Loss. A mare from before Equestria were established, who sold her soul to demons for youth and power. After a time, sent to make Discord kneel to their demands, and he easily trounced her, and were trapped in crystal. Recently uncovered by Shining Armor and his wife (I forgot her name, sorry), she's free of her contracts, as her old masters have died in the over a millennia that she were imprisoned.

She is influenced a lot by the demonic magic and her contracts though, being now a highly tainted mare, but she holds morals, and wants to do good. One of the reasons why she made sure the contract Shining and his wife signed with her, left her unable to kill others, among other things. She wants to be safe, and helpful, as she used to be, as a spirit guide.

She knows a lot about soul magic, to the point of being able to tear one from the body of others if needed, though she abhors the idea. Virtually unkillable and holding very steong magic, she'd be rather overpowered, were it not for her contract keeping her in check.

She also have random mood swings, that for instance makes her lash out, or end up crying. Hence another reasons she wanted to be sure she could not kill. She's enough demon to where her contract is impossible for her to break.

Her angle would be as a fellow outsider, that knows about the sort of magic Dragonfly would hold, and might be able to give her some guidance.

#2 Queen Dia'thiz. This RP have served as her story, which have to be summed up from two angles.

One is that of Queen Lathiz, changeling queen from some decades past. Hunted for what she and her hive were, they found themselves on some small islands, off the Dragon Isles, that were long abandoned. No life  nearby other than much stronger dragons, and nowhere to go they could think of, meant her hive were starving, and they were losing hope. She heard a voice from a nearby abandoned diamond mine though, and went to examine it, leading her to the second entity.

This were Diamanthe. Once a free roaming member of an ancient race, called the Crystal Beasts, that blanketed much of the world in various gems, a dragon-like species known as Refractions, managed to defeat her kind, and break them down to their core gems. All hidden around the world, meant to be left there, and never emerge again. For most, their signature gems would often spread out slowly over the millennia, leading to large gem deposits.

As such, dragons eventually found her core, and left the mine she had been found in, wanting nothing to do with it. Lathiz listened to her whispers though, as Diamanthe offered a solution to her plight.

The Diamond Beasts needs hosts, in their current state, to regain full form, but Diamanthe were less wanting for conquest and completely taking over the host, as her kin mostly wants, and instead offered unity. Lathiz would sit upon Diamanthe's crystal throne, and she'd remake her hive to something stronger, beyond hunger.

She accepted, and thick diamond covered the queen, while all her drones fell dormant. And aometime after, an unknown entity would come by as they were unaware, and sealed them both into the crystal.

In the decades since then, the old drones had their bodies taken over by crystals, and worked as feral workers for the emerging consciousness, harvesting eggs, and keeping the mine safe, until the day their queen would be free.

A chance encounter here in the RP, led to the seal being broken, and they broke out from the crystal. Diamanthe and Lathiz are now a combined mind, calling themselves Queen Dia'thiz, ruler of the Gemlings. A queen's body, encased in clear crystal that looks like a large doe. After returning the higher consciousness of their drones to their changed bodies, they now wish to establish themselves in the world, but doing so with diplomacy, and a want to connect, rather than hostile takeover.

Gemlings eat gems, not emotions, and have lost their ability to shapeshift, but are tougher, can manipulate gems, and have extended longevity in return. Queen Dia'thiz may well have met Dragonfly whilst out seeing something one of their drones thought they'd like to see, and would try and connect with this strange pony of precious metals and gems, feeling a certain kinship with her.

Their perspective would be that of an ancient entity, mixed with a relatively recent one, both trying to find acceptance and allies in this world, and learn of what have happened in their absence. More a travel companion than a teacher, and one less judgmental about the use of soul magic, if reasoned well.

#3 Billowing Smoke. Adventurer and purveyor of the illegal Grey Market (though no proof of the last part if there), he is a unicorn that have made his way from poverty to riches, mainly through his expeditions and adventures. In a recent one  he and a companion ended up accidentally releasing a cursed entity. A deer, who seems mute, teeming with dark magic, but thus far just with a want to follow and observe. The deer in question recently went off with another char of mine, but no one said it couldn't have wandered off after, to find Billowing again. As he released the deer, it always know where the unicorn is, no matter how much he'd try to hide.

In this scenario, Billowing would be trying to learn the deer how to be a productive being, whilst trying to understand what the deal were with it in the first place, which have him going to the old temple, where he encountered the sarcophagus that held the deer in the first place. He could well meet Dragonfly on the path, or at said temple.

The deer would be drawn to Dragonfly  because of the gem. It being soul magic, is dark stuff, and it would be curious of the gem, whilst Billowing would just try to understand things, and be curious in his own way, considering Dragonfly are made of precious metals.

Billowing is a genuinely good stallion, and well established in Canterlot, so he could give easy access to Dragonfly, provided she could convince him that she were not a threat, and the deer... It is hard to say currently. It seems as if whatever it once had of a personality, have eroded, or were perhaps sacrificed, and it is now trying to learn, though for what purpose, remains to be seen. They'd be both curiosity and teacher, and the sinplest path to mingle into Canterlot.

Also, vegetation that it touches dies. Not living creatures - though animals avoid it like the plague - but flowers, grass, etc, will wither and die fast in it's grasp. A part of the heavy black magic it is a host for. And it is considered an undead. I should probably state that.

These are the three ones that comes to mind first for me. If none seems a fit to you, please tell me the sort of thing you might be looking dor, and I will match you up.

Sorry I've taken so long to reply like I said I would. Life has absolutely been hectic over January but it should be slowing down now. Throughout the month I was preparing for a card tournament called Disney Lorcana Championship for the Oceania region. Did I get far? No, but I'm in the top 500 Lorcana players in Australia! Was it expensive? Incredibly so. Did I have fun? The first day, not really but my enjoyment grew the second day once I was away from the main competition event.

I completely understand. My replies have been at a snail's pace too, because of things happening.

I play MTG here in Denmark, and our LGS is getting some big fans of Lorcana too. Usually some folks using a few tables every Monday and Friday. It looks like a nice game honestly. Never heard them have anything but fun.

Regardless, impressed you're top 500 mate. Well done. And it is very understandable that it gets a lot more fun, once the competitive side is done. Means you have time to actually have fun at your own pace.

A few notes I need to ensure you know about Dragonfly before anything else to clear seeming misunderstandings. I’ll give a proper response after you respond, in case the fun facts I provide give you new ideas or make you reconsider your initial options! Also… Apologies for, what, a month long wait? I think? Two months? February kind of passed me by and I got less and less motivation to write as it went- fortunately it’s slowly coming back lately. Additional apologies for any spelling errors, I’m on mobile, and not even my usual phone! Not used to the apple keyboard…

Anyway, fun facts! First of all, Dragonfly- and by extension any other Geode Ponies- aren’t actually made of metal. Not even while they have their luster. It’s just a visual effect from generations of exposure to the extreme ambient magic of Geode. Notably a Geode Pony’s eyes do in fact shift between physical real gems, and the unique environment of Geode means their metallic appearance might be physical in but a hundred years, but as of Dragonfly’s generation the Luster is simply a semi-rare Geodian visual trait.

Secondly- soul magic. A much bigger part of what you were considering: Dragonfly has nothing to do with it. That’s something only the Opal is involved in. And further, the only things the Opal uses souls for are reading ponies to learn how to manipulate them, and sucking them in to be shredded into raw magical energy.

Thirdly, speaking of The Opal… Minor spoilers if you want even more ideas for starting out with Dragonfly.

The Opal isn’t actually an Opal, or a gem of any sort. It’s something more fundamental than that, and not remotely native to any universe where Dragonfly is Geodian. You could even say it’s the cause of Geodian Dragonfly in every such universe, though indirectly.

All these fun facts are to address possible misconceptions and give even more ideas. However, even if they don’t change anything, I still have an option in mind from those you listed. I’ll wait for your response to say it though, in case you come up with an even more fun sounding idea, or reconsider the one I had in mind.

Sorry I didn't return before now with an answer. I completely sweat it out. O_o

From what you said, any of the three I mentioned previously could still work fine.  Sucking in souls and take energy from them, is still if not dark magic, then definitely a powerful artifact, that some would be able to feel better, including the undead deer, and Vivid. It also would work on neither, as Vivid is a soul specialist herself, and isn't that easily *harvested* whilst the deer... Bit more complicated, but let's just say that you really don't want to try.

As for Dia'thiz, even if they are not made of precious stones, as you say, there is still the visual, and it would make them curious. Things could well expand from there.

So it still comes down to what option you'd prefer. And if you have specific questions about any of them,. just lemme know, and I'll try and elaborate.

Do you have any specific ideas you are building to with the Onache-kobolds story? I'm asking, because if you don't, I have a character that could mix things up. Bipedal insect-creature with some similarities to pre-reformed changelings in nature. The only thing is, that said character is in a cage in some forest somewhere, and Onache probably isn't in a shape to randomly go about in a forest with the kobolds.

‘Thiz definitely feels like the one who’d bring out the most sides of the character that is Dragonfly- while also seeming like the type the Opal might be interested in: Influential, somewhat ambitious, open minded.

 

Its still kind of a hard decision- aside from Loss, who I feel wouldn’t work as well for a first interaction with Dragonfly generally- but I flipped a coin for it!

and I felt the need to flip again, so obviously Dia’thiz is the choice I want to make.

Took a while to respond because I haven't been online for few days (12 h work days really are something). The original idea I had was for the kobolds and Onache find her, due to the whole insect thing, however, as I have had a moment to think, your approach does seem more fitting. The kobolds are in a weird place now where while I enjoy playing them, they have been kinda stuck in a loop: meet character -> story exchange -> meet new character.  There has been also quite the drama around them, so stuffing yet another from the left field stuff would be jarring. So it is probably a good idea to give the siblings break of some lenght, which could also work as a sort of a off-screen timeskip, so that when/if they return, they already have settled down somewhat (gained some money through the bounties and other odd jobs, and build some kind of start of a home.)

I'd say that the best way to do it is to finish the conversation happening in Harpoon's Hospital room, be it couple or few posts more (it's really up to you, since Sheska isn't the one leading the conversation), and then start the new storyline. 

Speaking, of, I'm gonna give some info on the insect character:

Though besides the picture and the name, it doesn't really give info about her (also don't worry, I'll shorten her name in the RP, I for one won't remember how to write it otherwise ) (Also also, the name is just one letter away from the scientific name for robber/assassin flies, in case you were curious)

The page gives more the vibe and general layout of where she is, since you'll have to start the whole thing by your character findig her, per her being in a cage in the end of a dark cave  

The character isn't fully fletched out, so I'm going to make some things up as we go, but here's some info still in no particular order.
1. She's quite tall, I'd say about 2 average mare heights, so somewhat taller than somone like Celestia? So around as tall as Ruby.
2. She is also quite thin in build, so while tall, she isn't that intimidating physically (though this doesn't mean she's physically weak.)
3. Because one can't tell from my drawing style, she is in fact "fuzzy", like a moth, though like in real insects, the "fur" is just soft scales that resemble fur.
4.  She is part of a hive-mind species, so the operation of her mind is quite unique, and is thus immune or resistant to certain things, though that's only really relevant with characters like Onache, who can, and often does, go to others' minds.
5. She's omnivore, and eats things by gooifying them and drinking them, though she personally prefers creature based diet over plants.
 

 

For your character, it's really up to you, the key thing really being that they are somone who reasonably would find Asildae, or in other words, would:
1. Follow mysterous singing in a forest
2. ignore warnings and follow said singing into a cave
 

 

And the location? up to you again, as long as it's some kind of forest, it can be the Everfree forest, or some other random Equestrian forest, or even non-Equestrian one. It just needs to be deep enough in the forest, so that it's feasible that she has been there for a while, without anybody else going "I think I'll figure out where that singing is coming from."

...If I keep the chaos to a minimum, can I use Glutton? Been referencing her a lot, but not had the chance to use her, and she'd definitely do these things. She's brutish and direct, so she won't care for mind games, and though she's not dumb, she would totally release your insect, just to see what'd happen. Might be she's *reformed* but she still likes her fun, and thinks that worst comes to worst, she'll just clean up the mess. Primarily through eating through the rubble, and snap to fix the rest if she feels like it. Including eating your character, if she becomes too much trouble, though that is of course, only a hypothetical. No need to worry she'd actually do that.

As for why she'd stumble over her? She wanders off from time to time. Sure eating the mass amounts of garbage that's dumped at her home is delicious, but she wants more than just the rich tastes of Equestria. Life is a buffet, and she wants a big bite of it all. Including satiating her hunger for exploration. The garbage will still be there when she returns, and she can then go back to consuming ton upon ton of various things.

There is 1 other option though. This one.

Shark is a shark pony, created by one of my other draconequui, to solve an issue she caused. Essentially kidnapping and force-evolving a shark some specific pathways a few hundred thousand years in a few seconds, and after solving the issue, she stuck around.

She's very friendly, and very curious, as she is still trying to get used to this dry world, and understand all that is in it. Often by booping into it, or chew on it, though she gets the basic from her creator: If it speaks, it is probably not food. And yes, she eats meat. Primarily fish.

She could work, since Shark spends her time not in town, trying to learn how to pony, being in the forest, and hunting. If she heard singing, she'd go there, and she's rather gullible, so you could probably rather easily convince her to release Asildae, though I must warn you: Shark WILL try and make a friend of her new bug companion, and if you run into any mutant frogs, she's gonna messily devour them. That's what she were made for.

As for your points... I can go through them quickly. :3

1. I honestly thought Ruby were way larger than 2 Celestia's. I'll keep that in mind.

2. Lean, mean, killing machine. She'd get along well with the Manetids (essentially large, intelligent mantis people. Might be a fun idea for later)

3. Fuzzy means she will be pet. I'm sorry, I don't make the rules, I just live by them.

4. Oh yeah, if Onache saw her, she'd totally try, so that's fair. And hive-minds would prove troubling, as it's not just one mind you're trying to go into, but countless. Even a piece of one, must be difficult. Though in her current state, she won't do a lot regardless. But it's good to know for future reference.

5. Aaaand I need to rewatch The Fly now.

pretty much, though minor correction, it's not that she likes to eat by gooifying things, it's just how she eats. She doesn't have teeth and has a small mouth, instead she eats with a proboscis that is inside her mouth, that comes out when she either feeds or attacks with it.

I take from the mention of chaos that she is a Dragonequus (or however you write it, not gonna google ) And i'm fine with some chaos, as long as it's not constantly targeted at my character. That's mainly where my "if" stands, most of my characters don't have natural protections against chaos magic, Kitsune tricks or other similar stuff, so being a constant target of stuff I can't do anything about gets old (experience xoming mainly from specific RP years ago).

And don't worry, Asildae won't be much of a problem to the general public, beyond being weird and maybe bit offputting to some , her motives are lot more simple than word domination or destruction She's also smart enough to not make unnecessary enemies. 

I can also see the garbage eating being a somewhat connecting point between the two, because while Asildae doesn't usually eat literal garbage, anything biological, be it rotten or fresh, is fine enough for her, and if nothing else, garbage attracts animals like rats and some birds, and she likes those.

Also, one doesn't need to be dumb to free Asildae, every story has two sides, and they jsut have to be convinced by Asildae's version. It's not like she's sealed in some magical vault deep in tartarus; it's just a metal cage dumbed in a random cave.

1. She is still quite large, just not taller, keep in mind body proportions. The old picture Isn't really accurate, and a redraw is currently WIP because I haven't felt like drawing for a while, but: She is about 3 times as long as she is tall, maybe longer as the tail will probably become longer in the redraw, and at least as wide as she is tall. So even if standing next to a pony that would somehow be as tall as Ruby, she would still be at least double their size due to how long she is. And that's without the wings, as one wing is enough to cover her body entirely in area + part of the tail, so if standing with her wings open, she's massive.  Think something like bears or lions in real life, or even moose (or horses even), they are not that tall when standing on four legs compared to humans, but they are massive due to the rest  

Not that the exact size is really relevant, to most things, since the main point is that she is too big for things build for ponies and bipedal Equestrian dragons.

2. Sounds like she would like them indeed, though she's only as mean as she needs to be  

3. no worries, she's quite tolerant; depending on who you are of course  

4. to specify a bit, due to her current predicament, she isn't currently connected to a hive mind, though her mind still is a mess, as she holds certain memories of a hive mind related stuff, which no doubt could overwhelm other species invading her mind. The way I imagine the hive-mind working, is kinda like how I understand the mind flayers in DnD to work(if that means anything to you); they are individuals, but when they get close to their hive-mind, they get connected and taken over by it. 

Also worth a note  kinda a spoiler, but also not since she will state as much in her introduction no doubt, Asildae isn't just a regular member of the species, which makes her mind even more unique in how it works.

I can also see the garbage eating being a somewhat connecting point between the two, because while Asildae doesn't usually eat literal garbage, anything biological, be it rotten or fresh, is fine enough for her, and if nothing else, garbage attracts animals like rats and some birds, and she likes those.

Also, one doesn't need to be dumb to free Asildae, every story has two sides, and they jsut have to be convinced by Asildae's version. It's not like she's sealed in some magical vault deep in tartarus; it's just a metal cage dumbed in a random cave. 

Yeah. Glutton is one of my Draconequui chars. I basically have:

Anomaly (living in the old castle in the Everfree).

Fright (controls a pocket dimension, that's basically a big area for meditation and peace).

Avarice (runs a bank/loan service)

Glutton (lives in the biggest landfill drop-off in Equestria, and devours everything that comes to her)

Long story short: Fright was rehabilitated by a pony centuries ago, and in the time since, have taught two of her kin (Glutton and Avarice) how to use their powers more constructively. Like how Glutton went from roaming and eating everything, to now providing a great service, by devouring the trash of Equestria. Even the toxic stuff.

Glutton doesn't much care for spreading chaos, or changing others. She considers each to have their own unique, interesting taste, though she's not eating living sapient creatures. A corpse is fair game, but she doesn't much care for the hassle if you start eating say, a pony, or a griffon. Then there's questions, then the elements pops in- Who can be bothered, yeah?

Never used her before, but always seen her as one that's not using it a lot regardless, lest there's a need to. She basically looks like a large diamond dog, mixed with a gorilla. So somewhat similar to a regular diamond dog, in that her back legs are smaller, and the top half larger, but even more muscular, and about double their size (think about a head and a half taller than Celestia). Her mouth and head is huge though, and if she just opened it normally, she could easily have a couple of watermelons in there. Though she can also just unhinge and swallow larger things, like trucks, or full on houses.

In essence, she doesn't need chaos to get through a cage, when she can just rip off or chew through a caged door, or make a tunnel through a mountain by eating the rocks in a straight line, etc.

As for eating, Glutton just eats garbage because Fright convinced her it were a good way for her to always have more than enough to eat, whilst being not a danger to be hunted down, but rather an asset that'd be appreciated. And she does enjoy being valued, rather than scorned.

And I don't mean she's dumb per se, just more... Direct in it, than say Discord. She doesn't care much for subterfuge or being sneaky, and is pretty open about who she is, and what she does. Another reason she hasn't picked a nickname or something that disguises her nature even a bit. Nope, she eats things, like a glutton, and she'd happily give you a trip into her mouth if you don't believe her.

Not eating some, does not mean she won't transport others in her mouth for fun.  Psychological trauma is more of a grey area, heh.

Shark is a bit special. She's been around others enough to understand most words by now, but she's still exploring things with the approach of a youngling. Tasting, sniffing, touching- She has a lot of childlike wonder at this new world she's in, and while trying to fit into it, I doubt she'll actually ever lose this part, as I think it's integral to her character.

She is also easily distracted by new things, so the time you ran into her, she were looking around a lot with things happening at the school, and those she met within. Though more clearcut communication will happen with Glutton, yes.

Glutton sounds like a fine pick for me. Asildae knows generally what Draconequui are, but as they aren't really relevant where she originates from, she probably won't recognize Glutton as one before Glutton states as much, even if she may awknowledge her as unusual looking creature.

I'm gonna try to respond to the RP tomorrow, hoping I feel less tired than I have for last couple days, and like stated, it's up to you to lead the kobolds story towards its for-now end as you wish, and then set up the meeting of Glutton and Asildae No need to take Asildae's page as set in stone fact, rather a direction of the general vibe. At least the Dialogue written in her page is Non-canon, and I'll write something more fitting in my responce as the time comes.
