Discovery Taking Control over The Hub

just the classic case of people over dramatizing a new because they'll like to make others freakout

I wouldn't be against it airing on another channel. It just depends on the channel

Nickeldodeon would probably screw it up so bad.

Cartoon Network, well they treat their programming fairly, seem to have some vendetta against cartoons starring girls. I don't know, something about girls not buying boy toys bullcrap.

Disney Channel, the only real issue I see is it moving to disney xd (then again, it would probably be on Disney Junior), or being put on long hiatuses like Gravity Falls. Though on the flip side, that would mean Twilight Sparkle is a Disney princess.

This was probably a good move. The only time slot that benefited Hasbro was the 9a-3p period, so it made no sense for them to need control over the whole 24h thing. This is just them trimming the fat and retaining what works.

Well that's odd, but hey, as long as Hasbro can keep showing stuff in the earlier timeslots I'm sure MLP won't be affected much if at all. All that I really care about on the channel honestly, whatever it's called in the end. :P

Well with the stuff Discovery gets away with and calls education like Ancient aliens and Ice road truckers.

I don't see why they can make a documentary series about the history of Equestria it would be just as educational as the Ancient aliens

That's History Channel stuff tho

Eh. As long as I get to watch ponies, I don't really care.

Besides, I think I saw them say Hasbro gets 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Since FiM is damned popular and Hasbro still has a degree of control, I doubt Rarity and her friends will be going anywhere :D

What wrong with it airing on Nickelodeon? They would air MLP:FiM in the afternoon.

If cartoon network is against girls cartoon then why do they got Steven Universe. They would also aired Transformers. Prime.

Disney Junior aired cartoon for preschooler/younger kid, My little Pony would syndicated on XD or Disney channel.

I don't see why this is causing panic. Discovery always owned The Hub. It looks to me that they just want to eliminate reruns of old sitcoms in the PM, in order to run more original programming. From what I understand, the AM Hasbro block will remain the same. Since I don't actually get The Hub (Comcast, bah, humbug!) this will have no effect on me!

I could go over all the stupid decisions Nickelodeon has made, (rejecting modyfiers pilot, canceling invader zim way too soon, overplaying spongebob, and rejecting adventure time for fanboy and chum chum) but I digress

As for Cartoon network, well http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/12/16/paul-dini-on-cartoon-networks-programming-decisions-and-why-boy-viewers-are-valued-over-girls

Disney would probably see it as something for disney junior.

Invader Zim was cancel because the creator quit and crew wanted to walk on other things. Sponge bob was too popular to end after the movie.

That because CN viewers was Boys

I doubt that Disney would air My little Pony on Disney Junior, Look like something they would air on XD.

They don't include The Hub in their basic package and I refuse to pay extra for just a couple more channels that interest me. MLP:FIM is the only show I watch from The Hub. Frankly, I just get it by other means.

Come to think of it, it airing on Disney XD or Disney channel wouldn't be that bad. Yes, there would most likely be more hiatus. But then we get some epic Disney music, it would air on Friday nights for anyone who hates waking up early for new episodes, and Disney treats their programming fairly.

What about breadwinners existing, or fanboy and chum chum existing?

When they said 9-3 do they mean PST or EST? I live on the west coast and if it's EST then the time slot for my time is 6-12 which wouldn't work for me.

Hmmmm...don't think it specified, but I'd assume Eastern. That's what most sources seem to go by :please:

History is owned by A&E Networks, or AETN for short.

Moving on to the main discussion for a bit, as a person who watches the show (abit through unmentionable methods) this news might have some impact for fans who reside overseas if the talk of the show going to another network happens to become reality.

At the moment the show in Australia has not been treated well through the legal channels on both subscription or free to air TV with poor quality episode screenings (picture, sound and the PAL speedup issues), erratic scheduling (episodes shown out of order or repeated constantly) and delayed by a year or two.

If the show moved networks in the US, then there is a chance that a similar move would be made for the overseas broadcasters, but that's for when it happens.

I always find this amazing. It's like they want people in other countries to pirate the show.

I remember being amused when SyFy would be promoting a "new" episode of Continuum that I had already seen months beforehand. Hmm, I really need to finish watching that.

Like other have previously said, as long as our beloved ponies are not affected by this, I don't really care.

Even though I haven't watched the show on The Hub since the hiatus between season one and two, I don't really like the name change, it feels odd.

Also, I don't think I want it on Cartoon Network, they would probably cancel it because it would take up a time slot where one of their other cartoons would be.

Gilligan's Island went through a similar problem back in the '60s when the fourth season was cancelled due to the owners of CBS bumping it off the list to replace it with Gunsmoke, because the old western was their favorite and they liked the time slot that it held for years.

I knew Hasbro's expectations for the Hub's performance were unrealistically high from the start. After launch, they said that their goal was to become "half as big as Cartoon Network" in 5 years.

This is obviously not the case, and this is because Hasbro has failed on multiple fronts. They failed to adequately promote the network on a large scale since its launch, and they failed to distribute it wide enough where it would be on a level ground with Nick, Disney, and CN. Additionally, they expected to be able to do this with a relatively weak lineup. Besides the success of MLP and the moderate success of LPS, they tried to help themselves with only a short slate of original programming, most of it based on established franchises, while pinning the rest of their hopes on a full slate of reruns and imports. In the mature industry of today as opposed to the past, with all the competition, reruns and imports won't really do you the best.

For us, the Hub Network will become another relic of corporate culture's fixation on making the most money in the least time, and not being patient or appreciative of the audiences they've already won over.

I have my doubts about the future of MLP, since the final decision now lies with Discovery's executives in Silver Spring, who are now in control of the programming that Hasbro used to be in control of. Canceling the show would be suicide, so Discovery might be compelled to keep it on for as long as it will last (another 5 years, hopefully, as Hasbro said).

However, we're left with an interesting prospect that I've had to think over:

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic may actually end up outliving the network it premiered on.

If you really think about that, you really appreciate how good MLP has it.
