What if the sun disappears?

The earth and all of the planets would float out of orbit, as there would no longer be anything to orbit around, and, of course, we'd all freeze to death. Yayyyy.

 

But it's not realistic for the sun to just flat out disappear. lol.

Oh, so MANY terrible things.

From tiny immediate things all the way up to the death of all living things on Earth.

 

First, it would be completely dark. Not even moonlight. The moon only glows because of the sun's light.

And if you mean it literally just disappears, Earth would possibly be catapulted out into space, because the sun's gravitational pull isn't there anymore.

 

Assuming we don't all die immediately because our planet flips out and crashes into something, there would be horrible consequences for the environment. The sun is also what powers rain and wind. Did you know that most birds are blind in the dark? And reptiles need the sun to warm their bodies. So most of them would likely die VERY quickly.

 

And most importantly, given a little time, all plant life would die in the darkness and cold. Then all herbivores would die, and then all carnivores and us.

The sun is very important.

There will also be the inevitable cold, assuming you mean it vanished on the spot, like if it imploded or was starved of natural resources, we would have 7 minutes of sunlight before it suddenly vanishes, it would be permanent night and it would be so cold, the planet would freeze over and we'd all die. No matter what we do, there would be no way of protecting ourselves from the sun extinguishing. the water vapor in the air would become so cold that you'd almost spontaneously freeze and die, and no not like cryogenic technology, your blood would become solid withing your veins, expand and burst your skin so even if you did miraculously thaw out you'd die. Lovely topic isn't it?
