Twilight has become too perfect for me to care about her anymore

Just to be clear, I'm not saying she's a Mary Sue or anything like that, but she has really changed a lot since becoming an Alicorn---so much so that I kinda feel like I was lied to by those saying that she would remain the same character she always was.

Aside from that humorous burger scene in Twilight Time, her adorkableness seems to have largely vanished, as has her tendency to freak out. Sure, I should commend her on her development, but these were traits that I found made her really relatable to the audience---traits that made me like her so much.

In addition to this, her flaws appear to have been greatly toned down and she doesn't make mistakes like she used to. She only had two journal entries in season 4: one in Three's a Crowd and one in Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3. However, the one in Three's a Crowd was not really based on any flaw on her part, so that's really only one legitimate lesson she learned all season, while the others learned several.

Two specific scenes in question that particularly concern me is the "breezy transformation" scene in It Ain't Easy Being Breezies and the scene where she rigged up the portal in Rainbow Rocks.

Something about the breezy scene just really rubs me the wrong way. Twilight is a magical prodigy and that much is certain, but that scene was such a ridiculous dues ex machina moment. And honestly, what kind of goddess has Twilight become that she now has to power to transform any species into something else? Are there any limits to that power? Would the mane six have been breezies forever if Twilight hadn't reversed the spell? I mean, sure there was that scene where she turned mice into horses in The Best Night Ever, but that was just a simple poof as opposed to her actually mixing her and her friends' DNA with that of the breezies to become them. And it was also going to wear off at midnight so we know that the change was not permanent.

The portal scene also really turns me off. Twilight has always been portrayed as being incredibly smart, but that scene pretty much implied that she's a goddamn bonafide super genius, as well as a mechanical genius. I know it was just a contrived way of getting her back into the human world, but it's still just hard for me to accept because Twilight was never portrayed as being that smart, nor was she ever portrayed as having significant mechanical experience.

She just seems a little too perfect now that it's to the point that I simply don't have much interest in her anymore. When her spells can be used to serve as dues ex machinas and when she can just pull expert-like skills out of nowhere to serve the plot, that's when I just lose interest in her development.

I agree with you in number, grade and gender.

However, I didn't watched the fifth season, but I agree with you.

Twilight is just a book-fanatic and a spell trainer, but Hasbro is forcing her to be like a Goku.

example: the episode Magic Duel was like when Goku died, trained in the overworld and returned with 8000 power level to kill Nappa and Vegeta, but Twilight were banned, trained with Zecora in Everfree and returned to defeat Cursed Trixie.

This is one of my points.

If Hasbro don't stop making Twilight more overpowered, I will angryly kick the bucket and not watch the series anymore.

Another thing: The real Twilight ex-machina appeared in Magic Duel, when for her was too easy to change ponies gender, cast age spells and other things.

I cannot argue you on this. Twilight has gotten to a point that it would be pointless to gain anymore power. For god sake, she is now a alicorn and now I'm seeing business about 'Rainbow Power'. Not only is Twilight getting too powerful but they are pimping out the Elements too much too. The Rainbow Power thing is a nit pick but it is in correlation with Twilight and he Elements of Harmony.

I'd not worry about it. It's like I said, it would be impossible for Twilight to get much more powerful unless they want her to be this unstoppable god. That would honestly ruin it for allot of people. For god sake, people still kinda bitch that Twilight shouldn't even be a alicorn.

She didn't change ponies gender or age though. That was a trick. The male Applejack was just Big Mac painted to look like AJ. The young Rarity and Applejack were just painted Sweetie and Apple Bloom. One of the two Rainbows was just a painted Fluttershy. None of them were real spells...She just tricked Trixie, into thinking she was more powerful, because of the fake amulet, so Trixie would remove the Alicorn Amulet to weaken herself.

Seems a little unfair to dislike a pony for improving themselves.

This isn't exactly a issue of improvement hate as much as it being an issue of Twilight pulling a Goku and getting too powerful. Twilight is running close to reaching strength that would, in the long run, make people bored of the series and move on. It maybe an issue of execution or just Hasbro wanting somepony to surpass the princesses. IDK.

Really?

I didn't know about it.

I might be forgetting things about the episodes. I will re-watch it. Thanks anyway.

This is actually very true. Twilight used illusion to make it look like she could use those spells deeming one point invalid there.

I agree with Wanderer in disagreeing with you.

Twilight isn't just improving, she is getting better than everything.

To be honest, in what any else of the mare 6 got OP?

Rarity? Applejack? Or maybe Flutty?

Think about it.

I will never understand how you can like someone less for being more awesome. Liking someone because they have flaws is like saying they can never get over those flaws.

I also will never understand how one can dislike perfection. Perfection is supposed to be the ultimate goal for all of us to strive for but no one wants to attain it and no one likes someone who has. It's total bullshit.

She's the same Twilight, just smarter and more experienced. She's not "too powerful", in fact the show goes out of it's way to point out that pure magical power doesn't solve her problems. See her trick in "Magic Duel", where she had to use her friends and her smarts to win the day (perfectly in line with her character) and how she was unable to defeat Tirec even with all of the alicorn magic in Equestria.

Twilight is the same character, that character is just developing a little. It's a good thing.

Perfect characters are boring, plain and simple. Even superheroes have to be able to fail every now and then.

Indeed.

If anything, while she has shown to be quite powerful, she is still FAR from perfect. She is still learning how she must help those she loves, how to deal with her responsibilities (which will only increase in S5), and has shown that her power has limits. The "Rainbow Power" isn't hers exclusively and we have no idea if it can be called upon again.

Right now, I don't see much reason to believe that she's perfect.

I...don't understand how they can possibly be boring. They have power, intelligence and rarely make any mistakes. That's kind of exactly what I want out of a character instead of "oh I messed up" being the entire plot of an episode or story arc.

While I think a character that's perfect from the get-go can be a bit boring (Though it works in wome cases), I don't mind a perfect character if he/she worked hard over the span of their story to achieve that perfection. Just look at Spawn. At the end of his series he became powerful enough to re-write the universe, but he had to work really hard to accomplish it.

Also and please don't think of this as being mean but no longer liking a character for such reasons is rather shallow and silly. If anything developments such as these should make you more proud of the character. Twi's not exactly my favorite but how much she's developed over the past 4 seasons does really impress me. She's grown and become more experienced, learned more spells, it's not something that one should lose interest in her for but gain it, become curious to see what she'll be able to do next.

I haven't seen much of Spawn. Now you've made me want to find as much of it as I can.

Perfect couldn't fix Ponyville in Princess Twilight Sparkle

Perfect couldn't fix Applejack's problem in Bats

Perfect couldn't save the day in Power Ponies, make Discord better or get him to go away in Three's a Crowd, help make Rainbow Dash a better learner in Testing Testing, or save anybody in the Equestria Games...

No, Twilight's not perfect; things aren't just handed out to her simply because she's special. She's worked her tail off to get to where she is now, either by herself or with the help of her friends.

"Character development....."

Character development that grants her godlike power? Character development that makes her an unparalleled genius?

I'm not really sure, but what I do know is that I certainly don't find her as relatable as she used to be. When I think back to how she was originally portrayed in season 1, I just don't see too many of those traits anymore.

And of course there will inevitably be something that she can't just solve right off the bat. When a character becomes stronger the plot will inevitably throw something more powerful or more cunning their way.

Twilight may be amazing now but just wait until a character comes who's not so restricted by the whole "friendship is magic" stuff. Tirek was a good start. He didn't believe in all that friendship gobbledygook that took even Discord.

That's kind of exactly what character development is. They find a way to overcome what held them back before. Twilight's entire existence is based around magic so it would make sense that she would eventually advance into a level of magic no other can achieve. She's also known to be quite book smart so it makes sense that she would read as much as she can until she was unrivaled there too.

So you can't relate to the character anymore. That's inevitable when someone changes, especially if you haven't in the last four years (or however long it's been since you started watching). I just hope you aren't trying to say the character is a bad one because of that.

People change, and the people we like change, that's normal.
