Shining Armor knocked on Princess Celestia's door nervously. Sure, he'd met his aunt-in-law countless times; he'd worked for her, and technically still did even if the majority of his time was now spent with his wife ruling over the Crystal Empire; but the ruler of the kingdom, the most powerful pony in all Equestria, still inspired awe. Celestia's assistant Raven answered the door and let him in. As he entered the room, Raven left.

 

"Your Majesty" started Shining Armor.

 

"Please dispense with the formalities Shining Armor; we're family now!" said the princess warmly.

 

"Celestia" said Shining Armor, smiling, "you said you had something urgent to speak with me about."

 

"As you know, when the changelings invaded Canterlot during your wedding to Cadence, we managed to capture two of Queen Chrysalis's minions," started the princess, "but since then there have been some interesting developments with the prisoners. While being held at the castle, they began to develop a close friendship with some of their guards."

 

"I see" said Shining Armor sternly, "what are the guards' names? I shall discipline them at once!"

 

"Their names are Runic Sigil and Lordy Snow" stated the princess, "but you misunderstand me. They should not be punished for their friendship. What we've discovered is that the changeling minions have grown strong due to this friendship. So much stronger than they would have feeding on romantic love. I have strong hopes that this new energy source for changelings could form the foundation of a lasting peace between Equestria and the changeling kingdom. I have even sent your sister northwards to negotiate a treaty with Chrysalis."

 

"Twilight?" asked Shining Armor, "and you want me to guard her on her journey?"

 

"Twilight doesn't need guarding," laughed Celestia, though not unkindly, "you should stop thinking of her as a little filly that needs your protection. She is one of the most powerful ponies in Equestria. Why, her magic may even come to eclipse my own one day. No, what I need is for you to return these changelings safely home. This will show Chrysalis that we are serious about offering her the hoof of friendship.

 

"Please go to the mess hall where you will find Runic Sigil and Lordy Snow. Assemble a team including them and two other royal guards to transport the prisoners back to their home, north of the Crystal Empire. The changelings themselves should be able to guide you back to their kingdom safety. Go now, for I expect your party to leave tonight."

"I understand, we will begin preparations for departure immediately. Thank you... your majesty." He gives a joking smile as he does an exaggerated bow before leaving the room. 

 

 

 Now assigned a new mission he heads to the Barracks to find Runic Signal and Lordy Snow along with two extra guards.

  Hmm... Perhaps I should look at a Service Record to see who would be the best picks for a mission like this? He thinks to himself as his hoofs echo in the stone hallway.

Mariposa had been one of Queen Chrysalis' most loyal subjects in the changeling Hive. A spy, she had expertly mapped out Canterlot prior to the attack, and had given her Queen the useful information about the wedding, this being the best time for her Queen to carry out her plan. Mariposa always took on the form of a light grey earth pony mare, with a pale pink mane and tail and a lollipop cutie mark to carry out her spying; a nondescript pony who went unnoticed by the ponies in Canterlot and was largely ignored.

 

Mariposa had been captured when the plan had gone wrong, and an energy beam had expelled most of the changelings and their Queen from the city. She had been injured in the legs and was left in the city along with another changeling. Mariposa fully expected the ponies to kill her, but to her surprise, she had been treated fairly well. A doctor had been called to treat her injured legs, and the guards had been nothing but kind to her. Friendship with ponies was an unknown element in the Hive, tho changelings would sometimes form attachments with each other.

 

Mariposa had never had a friend in the Hive; standing aloof, she had deliberately kept herself apart from the others. Now, however, she found herself forming a friendship with the two guards, and as well, found herself growing stronger on the friendship. At first, she thought it her imagination as, deprived on love to feed from, she expected to become weaker. But eventually, she accepted it and too, accepted both guards as her friends.

Bloodshot Flash sees Shining Armor approaching the barracks that he is guarding, along with the others inside, and quickly stands straight. "Shining Armor. What news do bring? Do we have a mission, sir. Who will accompany you?" He is very excited while he waits patiently for Shining Armor to respond.

Shining Armor raises his hoof up in a disciplined but friendly manner with a grin on his face as he already knows the answer.

 "I'm a bit tied for time as we need to leave today."

"Comander on post!"

 

Lordy salutes his superior officer in a millitary fashion.

 

"Happy to report all stations have been calm and silent since the last inspection, sir! What brings you to this dark corner of the castle?" he asks still saluting Shining armour. He was always lopking for opportunities to demonstrate his millitary abilities in hopes of a promotion.

"Sir, I.. I'd be honoured to accompany you on this mission. I've never been beyond the Crystal Epire on royal guard duties. I shall begin my preparations immediately and. Thank you, sir" and with that, Bloodshot Flash goes to his quarters and begins packing. Ready for the long journey ahead.

On his rounds, Flash Sentry over heard Shining Armor talking about the a mission to the Crystal Empire. "Sir, I must request, do you need any extra hooves on this? It would be an honor to serve with you commander." He says standing at attention looking hopeful.

Chain as he now wanted to be called was boucing a ball in his cell waiting for one of his freinds to come around which were guards or just untill time changed so he could eat breakfast which was just for the taste since he can only consume love or something new he found, friendship

 

Chain was thinking about how he got in the prison in the first place in the invasion, he was a enginer for the army but queen Chrysalis would never hear him out so he became just another soldier in the army but if he was going to go into the fight he knew the magic barrier would take hours to break throw even with the queen weakining it so without her persision he made a device that was like a magic drill and even did the final strike to break the sheild

 

"I don't even remember the taste love its been so long" he says with a fang going out of his mouth "still remember I thought friendship was better tasting than it"

"Ah, Flash Sentry is it? I can do with another soldier on this mission but don't think this will help you get closer to Twilight. If your coming go get packing for a long journey in the snow past the Crystal Empire."

 Shining Armour says with amusement in his voice.

"Sir, I wasn't even thinking of that happening, I swear sir." He says, stammering. "I will pack immediately sir, and Thank you sir." He says as he flies off to his quarters and beginning to pack his gear. "Twilight will be there? This is going to be awkward, but that is not the goal here."

"Lordy snow reporting for duty, sir" he said excited, "Runic Signal is... is... I have no idea where Runic Signal is right now sir!"

 

His tone indicated that he was clearly hiding something from his commander as he wasn't very good at concealing things,

 

"I'm... going to look for  her, sir!"

He was blabering a bit, trying to get the commander off his tail. He kept insisting there was nothing of interest near the cells.

 

" I'm sure we're going to find her faster if we split up, sir!"

 

He had a giant smile on his face.

"Alright, I will go check the prison cells then if you wish to split up." 

 Shining says as he begins walking to the door that leads in the prison's direction. Lordy Snow might notice Shining Armour watching him through the corner of his eyes as he walks away.

Lordy looks desperately at one of the guards on duty near him, they were pals, the guard sighs and rolls his eyes. The guardsecretly lets one of the prison guard dogs run and calls for his commander for help. Using this moment of distraction Lordy runs towards the prison cells.

 

"Oh, sir, I think i heard her. I'll go call her immidiately!"

 

As he ran by his commander he smiled, very proud of the "ingenious" scheme he pulled. He knew that Sigil was in a cell talking to Chain. Guards weren't support to "socialize" with prisoniers and Lordy had to get there before the commander to warn her.

Shining Armour calls the guard dog over and scratches her behind the ears before handing the dog over to a guard. He then takes off after Lordy and if possible will keep the prison door closed with his magic.

 

 "What's with the hurry Snow? If you heard her in there then we can see her together." He calls out to Lordy Snow.

"oh hey Sigil, for some reason I don't think we sould talk right now, I just have this feeling that won't go away it started when you came in, I think you might get in trouble if your in here for any longer" Chain says looking worried trying to get rid of Sigil from the feeling he had

"I see you have your team assembled," came Princess Celestia's voice out of nowhere.

 

Shining Armor was startled when he turned to see the princess right behind him.

 

"I came to remind you that the next train to the Crystal Empire is due to leave within minutes. I've asked Raven to tell the conductor not to leave without you, but you should hurry to the station as quickly as you can. Other ponies will be waiting.

 

"As you know, the track extension project north of the Crystal Empire is still in its early stages, so there will be no trains any further than that. You will likely have to make your journey on hoof, but your changeling travelling companions should be able to guide you well.

 

"Go now. Best of luck."

Mariposa could hear voices in the corridor. She strained her ears to hear what was being said; after all, nopony had told her anything. She was surprised. They were taking her and Chain back to the Hive? Why would they do that? So many questions and no way of getting answers.

After a long time of packing and searching for all of the things he needed, Bloodshot Flash found Shining Armour around the Prison. "Sir, all bags are packed and I am ready to leave as soon as you give the word. May I also note that I haven't seen Runic Sigil around today. I have something I was wanting to say to him. Have you seen him around today sir?"

"Thank you Celestia, we will get moving out right away."

 Shining turns to his companions and motions for them into the prison. 

 

Approaching the two cells with the Changling's Shining addresses them in a polite voice.

 "Hello, I am Shining Armour and with Celestia's orders four guards along with myself are to guide you safely to your homeland. We seek to establish long-term peace with your people and believe that escorting you there personally will help us in this regard." 

["You are not considered prisoners on this journey and once we have passed the Crystal Empire you are free to leave us to find your home on your own at that time."]   

 

OOC: I can remove the last part if you prefer Vital Sparkle.

Having finished packing his gear, flash sentry flies down to the prisoners cells, he stops next to Shining Armor. "Sir, I am packed and ready to go, when will we be leaving? And what can we expect? Are the rumors true that we are trying to make peace with the changelings? Seems like a good idea."

"Calm down soldier, we will be leaving as soon as the Changlings are out of their cells." (Assuming they were not let out already.) "Cold climate, lots of travelling and possibly some changlings if we are lucky. I can't give you to many details but Celestia believes we have found a way to establish long-term peace with the Changling's."

 

 Shining says as quickly as we can before turning back to the Changlings to open their cells.

Chain saw his door open to his cell but the prison bell to breakfast had not sounded then he saw Shining Armor and the only time he had seen Shining Armor in the prison was to take prisoners somewhere, other ponys thought he took ponys to there death Chain started to get worried "h..hey Shining Armor what are you going to do with me?" he said trying to act calm
