Zero000 435 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 I love starting new threads, you know why? Because people always get mad because they have discussed it before! BUT ONTO THE TOPIC AT HOOF... Although the show is intended for a younger audience, I see no reason as to why it can't involve a little romance, even if it's "silly romance". For example, try this synopsis: "A new stallion visits Ponyville, and all the mares get a little competitive." As needless would this sort of topic be it includes a normal conflict between friendship and, thus, gives a message in the end as all episodes would. DISCUSS. .. please. 7 Signatures are for fillies. Doctor XFizzle 8,669 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 Hmm, I'm not sure we'll ever get an episode where one of the Mane 6 develops a legitimate romantic interest. It could be a silly, minor romance like Rarity x Prince Blueblood and last one episode. A legitimate romantic interest that appears in more than one episode could certainly ruffle the feathers of bronies who are very protective/affectionate with the particular Mane 6 who's getting romantically involved lol. 4 MLP Forums' resident timelord, sports dilettante, and purveyor of wit and humor~*Traveling Timelord Nonpareil*~
spas-ticShotty 3,584 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 The fan-fic "Its A Dangerous, Stepping Out Your Door" (Which I have already mentioned numerous times before due to my love for that fan-fic) has Applejack fallin' in love with another stallion named Ashtail at around the half-way mark though the story (TBH, I actually don't really know where it happened, the entire fan-fic is 142,000 words long so....), it doesn't happen immediately, as they kinda seemed to hate each other at first due to a rough introduction but then of course they discovered the good (And tragic) side of each other and she almost manages to get to say her feelings, but RD of course cuts her off. After that, I was left to wonder "Does Applejack get to see Ashtail again?", 'cause he actually isn't from Equestria, so (If you're asking why Applejack is with a non-Equestrian pony in the first place, read the fan-fic for yourself. I think I already spoiled some of it enough -_-) After I finished that fan-fic, I have been hoping that Applejack doesn't get a legit realtionship during the show 'cause then it'll ruin the whole fan-fic for me, and since it will probably never become canon (), I want to at least imagine that she had that relationship if she never gets one on the show. As for the other ponies, I really couldn't care less for some reason, all I ask is Applejack doesn't get one 'cause I wanna keep imagining that the fan-fic actually happened (I love that fan-fic so much, I actually want a FiM movie on that fan-fic). TheDayTerror 3 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 I say to this, leave it in the Fanfics and comics, a good lesson to be learned: "Don't let anything come between friends" but it would be quite rare for all the mane 6 to like one single stallion. great idea for an episode non the less actully, would be fun to see them all worry over one stallion. You know what? You are going to Love Me! Okay? Cause I love you
Itchy Hooves 63 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 I wouldn't be opposed to it. Whatever they want to do with the show, and all. But I don't see it becoming a particularly major thing. Not because it's a children's show. But rather because of some of the feminist ideals that have been put into it since the very beginning. It can be difficult to play out a major romance plot without there being a submissive and a dominant party. Like the knight in shining armor rescuing the little princess or vice versa. It could end up making the female in the situation either appear frail and weak or just too butch, creating an image of being either a girly girl or not the least bit feminine without there being an in-between. You sort of have to walk on eggshells with this kind of thing. Which is why I think that thus far, anything romance-based has been a very, very minor theme. Maybe a running gag at most(Spike's crush on Rarity). I can definitely see some episodes dealing briefly with the subject of romance. Much like hearts and Hooves Day. But as a major plot point, they'd have to do some real intense planning. But even then, one small mistake in the plotting could create the wrong image in the eyes of some people. After the Derpy drama explosion, I don't even want to think about it.
ponyvangelist 732 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 Rarity dreams of marrying into royalty and pretty much has the field of romance to herself. We'll no doubt see more romance (and palace intrigue) during the Royal Wedding episodes, but that will probably be about it. And even Rarity had her hopes dashed when her prince turned out to be not so charming after all. The problem with introducing romance to the mane cast is that it would tend to break up the circle of friends, much like it does in real life. The more involved any of the ponies would be with somepony else, the less they would be involved with one another. Thus I doubt we'll see much of that, and nothing permanent if anything at all. And I, for one, am glad, because anything beyond that would mess up the dynamic as surely as when Mork married Mindy. Let's add The Fonz waterski-jumping over a shark to that for good measure. My Little Ponies, don't you ever grow up!

Klopp 2,050 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 Here's a synopsis for possible episodes involving the mane six finding a very special somepony :3 Fluttershy - "Fluttershy has a crush on a new stallion in ponyville, but she is too shy to speak her mind. Twilight does her best to help, but things go terribly wrong." Rarity - "Rarity has been constantly asked by Southern Charm (Woohoo, randomly generated pony name (my head is the random generator)) to go on a date, but Charm is not her type, and Rarity goes to desperate measures to avoid him" (Of course in the end she would learnt that he is awesome and they fall madly in love ) Applejack - "The Grape family stops in Ponyville to sell their delicious Grape Juice. While there, Applejack falls for Red Grape, but is reluctant to encourage a relationship since he will not be in Ponyville for long." Twilight Sparkle - "A group of Students from Celstia's School for Gifted Unicorns come to ponyville for a field trip. A Stallion in the group asks Twilight on a date, and she falls in love with him, now she is torn between moving back to canterlot, or stayin with her friends in Ponyville." Rainbow Dash - "Rainbow dash gets a crush on Light Speed at the annual Equestrian Pegasus Race. She was going to ask him out after the finals, but he bested her in the race and she becomes reluctant to ask." Pinkie Pie - "Mr. and Mrs. Cake's cousin comes to ponyville for a visit, and Pinkie Pie has unfamiliar feeling towards him. First she thinks it is a new combo in her Pinkie Sense, but Twilight informs her that she has simply fallen in love." Seriously though, I have doubts that Hasbro would allow such relationships to take place in My Little Pony, but I suppose it could happen
Champion RD92 8,658 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 I always thought they should do an episode like that where one of the mane 6 goes on a date or something, or maybe has a crush on a stallion. Although if Rainbow Dash got a bf I would be jealous ._.
SrFrog 927 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 (edited) If done in a reasonable manner the idea could actually work for the shows advantage, so I'm not completely against this. However they would need to do it in a subtle manner, considering the target audience. Edited April 5, 2012 by SrFrog "Never give no manipulative bitch the benefit of the doubt" - Compa's grandpa... Queen Cassie 3,057 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 As much as I enjoy shipping fics and pairing up the ponies in my head(or tripling, or quadrupling, or even just plain old tossing them all into one giant polyamorous relationship) I would very much prefer not to see the subject tackled with the Mane Six in canon. There is far too much potential for serious detrimental harm to the friendships built up between the Mane Six. In addition, I don't think the subject could be handled without permanently damaging the characterization of one of the Mane Six either. The closest we're going to get is the Spike/Rarity relationship, and that appears to be drifting more towards Rarity caring for Spike like he's her son rather than anything romantic. Perhaps most importantly, I should point out, is that the show has already dealt with romance in perhaps the best possible way to avoid kerfluffling with the Mane Six, by using two secondary characters instead. Hearts and Hooves Day was likely one of those episode ideas foisted upon the show by Hasbro, since that's the sort of subject a little girl's show likes to tackle. The episode writers took it and ran with it in an absurdly comical way, but I don't think they could do this twice in a row. I especially don't think they could do this with the Mane Six. What's most unfortunate is that, due to the gender disparity and the nature of American society, any realistic relationship that could develop between any of the Mane Six won't ever be on the show because it would, by its very nature, be a female/female relationship. As much as I'd like to see the show tackle the issue of homosexuality, especially by presenting it as being perfectly normal in Equestria, that's just never going to happen. FIM may be breaking ground in a lot of ways, but it's not going to be the battlefield for homosexual acceptance in the media. Therefore, I say that romance should stick to the fanfics, to the fanon, and out of the show itself. 5 Used to be known on here as Kyronea. Want to read psychological analyses of the Mane Six? Nordica 180 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 I would like to have it open. Let fan fictions take care of the romance part. I certainly hope we won't see any canon pairings in the show. ...Except for Lyra and Bon Bon.

windy_prance 114 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 (edited) I can never see an episode where the Mane 6 fight over a stallion. (Their tastes vary too much to be realistic) I can definitely see an episode where a stallion has a one-sided crush on one of the Mane 6 and spends the episode trying to get their attention. Forlong 1,726 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 I wonder how Spike will react to that. Rarity - "Rarity has been constantly asked by Southern Charm (Woohoo, randomly generated pony name (my head is the random generator)) to go on a date, but Charm is not her type, and Rarity goes to desperate measures to avoid him" (Of course in the end she would learnt that he is awesome and they fall madly in love )Isn't Rarity already "with" Spike? Anyway, I do sense some romantic exploration in season 3. Probably with Rarity and Spike, plus another of the mane 6 with someone. I can think of two probabilities... Fluttershy & Big Mackintosh It doesn't have to be Big Mac, I just find him the pragmatic choice in this case. Why develop a new character when you already have a good one set to go? The reason I say Fluttershy is because that has the potential to be both interesting and funny. Here's my speculation: Rainbow Dash discovers that Fluttershy has a crush on Big Mackintosh, but will not reveal her feelings for fear of being rejected and betraying Applejack's friendship. Rainbow Dash tries her hardest to help Fluttershy overcome her fear and nervousness, so she can have the stallion she deserves. Pinkie Pie & ??? In this case, using a pre-existing character isn't practical because of Pinkie's friendly nature. It makes more sense to bring in a new stallion who doesn't know her and can be justified in not understanding her feelings. Speculation...now: The new stallion in town is annoyed by Pinkie Pie. Insistent that she leave him alone, he hurts her feelings unwittingly. Once he understands why she acts the way she does, he apologizes and they become friends. After some time, he finds that he's falling for Pinkie, but is afraid to tell her. She notices his nervousness and misinterprets it as thinking she's overstepping. Hilarity ensues! But that's just my thoughts. Nothing against Twilight, AJ, and RD. I just don't see the writers doing this with them anytime soon. But only time will tell. 2 Check out my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5qXAcUzrizEHvorGalU5jg?feature=watch
IowaBrony 1 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 I'm not a big fan of romance, but it'd be a pretty interesting episode if one of the Mane 6 fell in love. In my opinion, seeing a romance involving Fluttershy or Pinkie Pie would be pretty awesome. Although, I would also want to see one for Rainbow Dash as well. Aureity 3,055 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 Nothing serious, most likely. At the end of the day, this show IS geared towards a younger audience, and thus nothing over-the-top is going to happen. Take Pokemon as a similar example (Brock doesn't count, crushes =/= romance). 1 A lil' Catherine <(^.^)>
go away seb 367 April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 That would be a cool idea, but wouldn't it make a dent in the atmosphere of the show? Even if this idea were to make it into an episode, they would have to get rid of the new stallion instantly, or they would have to keep him in every episode. I mean, it's the Mane 6, not the Mane 7.
