That is true, but they vote Democrat and republican, or liberal or conservative not " I like what he/she stands for." Jonny Music 3,401 January 29, 2015 Share January 29, 2015 (edited) First I'll say what I currently don't like about one of the Provinces of Canada I live in, Ontario. What I currently don't like is the fact that the highest posted speed limit on the 400 Series Highways is 100 km/h (roughly 60 MPH)! I find this to be complete BS that my Province's government still leaves it like that. It's WAY TOO SLOW! That's why there is a group that exists already to petition to raise the speed limit reasonably. My fellow Ontarians, if you drive the 400 series highways and agree that the speed limit should increased, then go to this website and sign the petition, STAT! http://stop100.ca/ Now for the actual country of Canada, Simply, the current Federal majority government of the Conservative Party. I am against with what their plans are for the population. Which involves this: http://www.pressprogress.ca/en/post/wealthy-husbands-will-cash-big-time-stephen-harpers-income-splitting-scheme But here are the absolute faults and downfalls to this plan of theirs: http://www.pressprogress.ca/en/post/7-facts-conservatives-dont-want-you-know-about-their-family-tax-plan That's why I'm against it.Oh and also, Bill C-51. I want that bill repealed. But who knows when that will ever happen. Basically, I do not like the current governments of my Province and Country. Use of such tactics will automatically make any of your posts invalid. (Note: this is not a competition or contest of any kind. Simply do your best to demonstrate beyond a reasonable doubt what you have claimed.) I feel like I suddenly went in over my head ^^; I haven't ever gone through an argument with such a high level of formality and precision like this, but I will try my best to cover everything. I guess I'll start with 1. Proving that the claims you have made are false. Also, in my argument when I say government I am referring to the US government, which I have the most experience with and is generally accepted as a democracy. Well, for those of us who are fortunate enough to live in a democracy let's never forget that we are the government and, rightly, all those in power are accountable to us but only if we actively participate and take part in the system. If I have understood this correctly, there are two claims: 1. We (as in, average citizens) are the government 2. All those in power are accountable to us if we actively take part in the system 1: My definition of government is "the person or group of people which, in the thoughts of the general public, can 'legitimately' initiate aggression, and is the exclusive power in its geographical area." If you have a different definition of government then please share it with me and I will attempt my argument again. For now, however, I will continue onward. Proving your first claim false is rather simple. You (and all other average citizens) do not, in the thoughts of the general public, have the power to 'legitimately' initiate aggression. You do not have the power to tax someone else. You do not have the power to conscript someone else. You do not have the power to kidnap someone else and throw them in prison. You do not have the power to create laws. You do not have the power to enforce laws. You do not have the power to interpret laws. Thus you, and all other average citizens, are not the government. 2: This claim is also surprisingly simple to disprove. The US government itself holds that the police (a rather important part of government) do not have any specific duty to protect or serve an individual. The Supreme Court case: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_v._District_of_Columbia And if you do not trust Wikipedia then you can check the case itself which is sourced at the bottom of the page. Moving on to the second part, I need to prove that the claims I have made are true. I am an American citizen and I hate the government. Well, I hate all governments but I hate the US government more because it's the one that affects me the most I guess. Ahh, the great lies that spawn forth from democracy! To make the citizens believe that they themselves are the government, to make them believe that they have some sort of power over it! No, we are not the government. As an individual, your single vote means nothing; the chances of a vote being exactly tied so that your single vote makes the difference is practically zero. And I'm only going to lightly touch on the fact that anyone below the age of 18 cannot vote and is not "represented" by the democracy at all. "We" are not the government. "We" did not create laws enforcing slavery. "We" did not force millions of men to go to another country and slaughter other millions of men. "We" did not create laws restricting the rights and freedoms of all sorts of different groups. The list goes on. Sorry if I came off as mean in this post, but the belief that one is a part of the government is a misleading and harmful belief. I'm going to mostly ignore my first few sentences as well as my feeble attempt at some poetic-sounding lines because they are just opinions. I mean, if I say I hate the government then I'm not sure that that really needs proving. I will say, though, that some US citizens believe that they are the government or that they have some power over the government. In proving this wrong, I can prove that democracy is lying to you. My claims: 1. Democracy is lying when it says that citizens are the government and that citizens have power over government. 2. Citizens are not the government 3. In a democracy, your individual vote does not mean anything 4. Citizens below the age of 18 are not represented by the democracy 5. We (me and you) did not create laws enforcing slavery and all that other stuff 1. To prove this is true, I need to prove that citizens are not the government and that citizens do not have power over government. See below for this. 2. See above, part 1 claim 1 3. Unfortunately, I am not well-versed in statistical analysis. However, I can tell you (and I hope you will agree) that the odds of a vote being perfectly tied without your input are close to zero. So extremely unlikely that it is irrelevant. And besides, that's not even mentioning people who live in states like California or Texas, which will always vote Democrat and Republican, respectively. So if someone wants to vote for the other side, they have no chance of their vote counting for anything. 4. Voting age in the US is 18 years old. To be represented, you need to vote. Thus, citizens under the age of 18 are not represented. 5. Well, I didn't do any of these things at least, and the same can be said for the average citizen. I sure hope that you haven't done any of these things So, um, I hope that I have done everything the right way ^^ Please correct me anywhere that I am wrong!

If you have a different definition of government then please share it with me and I will attempt my argument again. For now, however, I will continue onward." First, let's address this point: You start out by saying "my definition of", which does not demonstrate an actual definition of what a democratic government is but what your opinion of it is. This is not a fact. It's an opinion and everyone's got one, including me. That doesn't make it valid or invalid, that just makes it an opinion and, yes, to be fair that applies to me as well. "Proving your first claim false is rather simple. You (and all other average citizens) do not, in the thoughts of the general public, have the power to 'legitimately' initiate aggression. The central point in this argument is unfounded as in: "in the thoughts of the general public." Again this is a situation that demands citation. Do you have polls, demographics that clearly demonstrate this claim? If you don't then, again, it can only be interpreted as opinion and not any citable, demonstrable fact. Then there's this: "Thus you, and all other average citizens, are not the government." Again, citation is definitely needed. In fact, it's demanded. You haven't shown any therefore your point, which again, is really an opinion, is invalid. Since you have clearly violated conditions 1 and 3 of the aforementioned conditions of citation then I think it would be a good idea if we simply ended this here and let it go since you haven't persuaded me and any further debate on this would be pointless. I did openly ask for you to correct me ^^ This is my first time doing something like this, so I think it's normal to make mistakes. However, I would like to assert a few things about the conditions you have set and your reply to me. First of all, "my definition" of government is not "my opinion." It is merely expressing the perspective through which I see the word and explaining the way with which I use the term, not asserting that the "factual" definition of the word is such. There is no "factual" definition of a word. The definition of a word is constantly evolving through its use in a language, and I wanted to set a concrete point around which my ideas are based. If you wish to put forth your definition of government then I will gladly rewrite my argument. Next, I do not have to cite polls or demographics to demonstrate the fact that average citizens are not considered part of government. Perhaps I went about that in the wrong way. If the general public believes you can legitimately initiate aggression, then you would have the same powers that the government has. However, you do not have these powers, therefore the general public does not believe you can legitimately initiate aggression. However, there is a greater flaw in all of this. The entire burden of proof should not rest on my shoulders, especially since you were actually the one to begin with the assertion that we are all part of government. I am merely denying your claim. Can you prove to me that your claim is true?
King Sejong 859 January 30, 2015 Share January 30, 2015 (edited) I don't like the imperial power America has, I know I served in uniform, and so does my brother, we both have seen the corruption of political and military power, from both parties, and both the president and congress, they don't care if they send my brother to war, it is not them or their family going into the line of fire, the most powerful country in the world is put into the hand of businessmen, put there by corporate employees. The American public is also corrupt, vain, ignorant of the country they inhabit, the public has become a pet, little more than a beast of burden, to the powers willing to use them for profit, for war or political support, as long as they have their toys they have the quiet consent, to be silenced and pacified by government benefits or technological substitute for companionship, it saddens and infuriates me to see my country regress into a child, with little cognizant ability to assess the decadence, of our own creation. Lisa 5,553 January 30, 2015 Share January 30, 2015 (edited) I love my country Australia, but I do have pet peeves about it. 1.) The heat is unbearable Especially in the Summer, temperatures here in Western Sydney reach up to 45 degrees C usually due to us living inside of a giant valley. Heat becomes trapped between the mountains. Instead of being outside I prefer to stay inside with the air conditioner on 0 degrees. x.x 2.) Bogans The lowest members of society here in Australia. They ruin our country by basically living of government money. They usually don't work at all and gain their income from welfare. They also have pretty thick 'strayan' accents which are annoying to listen to. Funny, our old Prime Minister, Julia Gillard actually had a similar accent. lol. 3.) We have no good political parties to vote for (in my opinion). Both the main two parties, the conservatives (Liberal Party) and the democrats (Labor Party) are liars. Each time they get elected into power none of them fulfil their promised actions before election, mostly. There's also the Green Party who are basically a much more extreme democratic party over Labor, but nobody likes them because they want to give away money literally freely to anyone who walks into our country - legally or illegally.
