[Spoiler] The Cake's cake

Forlong

Recommended Posts

Standard procedure to mark this as a spoiler, even though I don't intend to give away the plot.

Well, the name of the cake in the latest episode is the Marzipan Mascarpone Meringue Madness. I wonder if you could actually make that cake. Let's break it down and figure out what the recipe would be. It's obviously a cake, so we can derive it from a basic cake recipe. Those are easy enough to find. Let's look at the elements of the name.

Marzipan

A sweat almond meal (though apricot and peach kernels can replace almonds in a pinch). Often used for cake filling. However, it could also be in the icing, and is likely the decorative "fruit" on the cake.

Mascarpone

An Italian cream cheese that has been coagulated in juice. It is very likely used as the icing for the cake, or at least some of it.

Meringue

There are two possibilities here. The first is that it is actually a pavlova, which is very similar to meringue. Not sure if that even counts as cake, though. The second is that it refers to the icing, which would make it a large meringue tart.

Madness

THIS...IS...SPARTA!!!

*kick*

...

Someone should really put railing around that.

From bitterness I arise. I shall thrive in the cool darkness of this moonlit winter's night. Oh how far I have arisen to meet you my friends.

I hypothesize that somewhere in that cake is a secret ingredient that is Big Macintosh's kryptonite.

That or the plate it rests on is made of lead or some other obtusely and absurdly heavy material.

Not even a cake-sized block of unniloctium would be dense enough to out-weigh a house, yet it still frustrates Big Ma- no, now I've got it!

When Big Macintosh is in love, nothing stops him. Mac in love might possibly be the strongest force in the universe, which is why he's so demonstratably stronger in Hearts and Hooves Day but not in other episodes.

Meringue = Filling

Mascarpone = Covering icing

Marzipan = Decorative icing

Madness = The cake itself?

That's really all there is to say on the matter.

I have an informal bet running on how quickly the community will put out an actual recipe for this cake. I will be terribly disappointed if it takes more than three days since the airing of the episode.

How about the ingredients for the Chocolate Moose Mousse?

Chocolate

It tastes good.

Moose

The moose (North America) or Eurasian elk (Europe) (Alces alces) is the largest extant species in the deer family. Moose are distinguished by the palmate antlers of the males; other members of the family have antlers with a dendritic ("twig-like") configuration. Moose typically inhabit boreal and mixed deciduous forests of the Northern Hemisphere in temperate to subarctic climates. Moose used to have a much wider range but hunting and other human activities greatly reduced it over the years.

Mousse

A creamy type of desert, similar to pudding except more airy. Hard to keep the shape of, but absolutely delicious.

Now, someone go combine Chocolate and Mousse, kill a Moose, turn it into a mold, and then mold the Chocolate Mousse into it, to make this desert.

"Fine, I'm guilty! I WEAR FAKE EYELASHES! Oh and I took a bite of the cake, too."

It HAS to be good to have Rarity even CONSIDER extra calories.
