Which was the best two parter?

With multiple (three or four I think) 2-part episodes having been released already, which one is your favorite? I finally finished season four today and LOVED the special, they might be my two favorite episodes of the series (with an actual, cool battle no less, not just one beam of magic *cough* Celestia *cough*   ) However it's been a long time since I've seen the 2-part wedding episode from season 2, my other favorite episodes so I'm not too sure which ones I prefer. What are your favorites and why?

Return of Harmony is probably my favorite. It has lots of animation issues but the story is very nice and the introduction of Discord was great.

Why? Because I liked the introduction to ponies like Princess Cadence and Shining Armor and I thought the scenes that had the Mane 6 battling the Changelings were good.

It's Twilight's Kingdom for me; Tirek's awesomeness as a villain, Discord's betrayal and of course the battle that ensued at the end were all interesting developments for the show to me. I felt like that episode put the most on the line and subsequently affected more change in the series. My biggest complaints would be mostly about some of the plot holes surrounding the character's decisions(Celestia especially).

That's pretty much how I'd rank em. The top 3 are a toss up depending on how I'm feeling.

Definitely has to be Return of Harmony

1) 1st appearance of Discord & the only villain w a 3 digit IQ

2) Some of the best scenes in the series

    A) Mean Fluttershy

     Here comes Tom!

    C) Can I hold you down against your will?

    D) Be a dear & Fly a little  faster!

Canterlot Wedding would be 2nd place.  However, having a brother appear out of nowhere + Celestia not even giving T the courtesy of a hearing (& after all she'd done by then, too) detracted from the episode. + IRC, C never apologized to T

 

Crystal Empire.  Liked it, but C risking the Crystal Ponies by sending T out alone was a bit much.  Luna should have been sent too, at least as back up.  +The others should have asked T to at least send a report to C, in case something went wrong

For me, it would be "The Crystal Empire." Reason for this being that this episode felt like it had the best overall atmosphere, best villain easily, what essentially amounted to a battle of wits between Sombra and Twilight, and I actually liked the part that Spike played.

      I liked the "Return to Harmony" 2 parter... The first time I saw Discord, had me in stitches. I was like "Okay, I like Discord"... He has fun with it. Something you don't see a lot with villains because they're either too menacing like Megatron of Transformers or so dry humored like Lex Luthor in Superman The Animated Series, voiced by Clancy Brownor. Or they're too "Crysallis" or too "Lord Tyrik" or too ruthless like King Sombra... Yes, any villain could fit into those 3 categories... See how they acted and make up a word for yourselves, Ok?

      So Discord, he definitely had fun with his stuff... I don't know, but making it rain chocolate milk rain or popcorn that sprouts out corn stalks in the ground. I mean Pinkie Pie sure wasn't against it like the others Of The Mane Six in fact, she was giddy with it, also having fun too... Discord could even turn the world from normal to wacky crazy and topsey turvey was really chaotic, it was like Bizarro weird... With everything all backwards. He's Actually really creative... In fact whoever drew Discord had fun with him. 

     Discord... Was Discord really all that bad? Even in Return to Harmony? I think he's a lot like Loki. Not the take over the World and sire armies to conquest for the Throne of Asgard... Loki, he's known as "The Trickster God". He's a prankster... Also I'm pretty sure Loki invented the "throwing black holes under people then he falling thru them" gag? Loki in the sense of being like Discord, is that he's just playing jokes with every pony and he doesn't see it as wrong. He's trying to make things interesting and fun in Ponyville. I think the manipulator part of Discord is what they find that needs to stopped. Also How much you wanna bet that Princess Celestia and Discord had a thing once? That's why she's "not as merciful" around him? Always glaring at him like a jilted lover passing by after some time has passed... I bet that had something to do with it? There's definitely something there? Celestia is usually very understanding and merciful, maybe slow to anger but her expression when she has to deal with Discord... It's like, you can sense that right?

   He's also played By John De Lancie whom drawing a blank then, who's that?! Then people were talking about Q from Star Trek TNG and I knew then. Also now that I'm thinking, I never really thought Q was bad either, ya know? Yeah, sure he'd make trouble for Captain Picard and The Enterprise Crew and they'd have to outsmart him to beat his game whatever he has at the time much like Q did to The Mane Six... but when we first meet him, he's just trying to make things interesting. Now that I think Discord and Q share a lot more in common than the same actor, huh? 

   

    Let me know what you guys think... Do you think Discord is Bad or just misunderstood? Could he have done any good with his unusual powers before he was turned into a statue by the Princesses? What comes to your mind when you think of Discord? Do any of you like Star Trek TNG? I still watch it myself occasionally, even though it is in reruns, but still a good show.

Sounds good Bunny... I'm sure things indeed changed when he was tasked with Fluttershy. You could say that Discord was like a child. who doesn't know what he does is wrong. And yeah Fluttershy possesses "motherly qualities" and in showing Discord he was making trouble for every pony it was then did he truly change. Friendship is Magic is not only about making them it's keeping them once you have and Discord learned that most of all.

Favorite 2 parters:

1. Canterlot Wedding - totally unexpected. I remember having sooo much fun watching this. The scene at the end of part 1 made my jaw drop, it was awesome, i rewatched it a while ago and id forgotten just exactly how cool it was.

 

2. Twilights Kingdom - love the songs and the end with discord and discords role overall.

 

3. Return of Harmony - kinda nostalgic. First mlp episode i saw on tv, and i think the only one ive seen premiere on tv (Joined fandom after s1 ended). Pretty nostalgic, in a way, i remember not having cable and going to my grandma's both weekends to see it and running between rooms during commercials to chat with internet friends

 

4. Princess Twilight Sparkle - was pretty interesting, as a history dude, loved the flashbacks.

 

5. Friendship is Magic - this one and party of one is what caught me off guard and got me into the show. Like how twilight said "please tell me shes not..." when pinkie starts singing. I thought it waw hilarious considering its a kids show and characters love singing (and also me ironically loving mlp songs, dont remember whether or not i jammed out to pinkies ghost song tho)

 

6. Never saw crystal empire, but jerry spread some light on sombra and made him seem super interesting.

 

7. The Punic Wars - lowest on list cuz no ponies =(, but bravo on rome for that miraculous comeback!

Probably The Return of Harmony simply because Discord was the most competent villain this series has had to date.

I think Princess Twilight Sparkle was really good because it showed so much of the past; especially Luna's fall to evil was really well done. Overall, though, I think Twilight's Kingdom was the best two-parter because of the plot, Discord's development and the songs.

 

The battle between Tirek and Twilight has been called lazy writing in a different thread. I agree with that to a certain point, but I really do think it was pulled off well, especially Twilight's anger at losing her home. The Rainbow Power was awesome even though I didn't like the designs much, and it showed just how powerful friendship really is: it defeated a being who had literally absorbed all the magic, even the alicorn magic, in Equestria.

 

That is enough for it to earn the title of best two-parter in my eyes.
