Any Pro-Wrestling Fans Around?

Actually this is something I've been meaning to ask about.

I'm a 90's kid and to my understanding, wrestling was really big in the 80's and wasn't as big in the 90's. Not to say it went away just that it didn't have the same presence, and I could be wrong. I was busy with Power Rangers, Pokemon, and other cartoons. My point is the whole wrestling scene blew right past me.

These days, it's all some people can talk about and I honestly don't know what to make of it. So for all of you bronies who are die hard fans, might I ask what you like most about wrestling?

Yes! I've been watching wrestling since I was a kid back in the pre-Hulk Hogan days. I grew up with Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, the 4 Horsemen, the Von Erichs,Cactus Jack, and on and on...

I've also been a fan of Japanese wrestling, and guys like Tiger Mask and Hayabusa. I haven't watched much at all in the last 5 years or so, but still get out my VHS recordings of old Raw, Nitro, Smackdown, ECW, the King of the Death match tournaments, etc and enjoying them.

My favorite wrestlers are Mick Foley, Undertaker, Kane, Hayabusa and Tiger Mask...

Wasn't as big in the 90's? You must've tuned in during the early 90's. Wrestling was at a low point back then. But come 98-01, Wrestling couldn't be more popular.

While the scene isn't nowhere near as exciting as it used to be, there's still stuff to watch. Places that have my favorite matches would be Ring Of Honor, the 3rd largest wrestling company in the US. Only an hour of TV each week, but they focus on the action. No scripts, no lines to feed wrestlers, just letting them get the message across their way and letting the action do the talking. Sink or swim.

New Japan Pro Wrestling has been my latest source for great matches. They take it more seriously over there, like a combat sport. It's helped them rise to being the #2 wrestling company in the world with match of the year candidates every night.

Why do I like it? Same reason I like battle scenes in anime, fight sequences in action films, martial arts throwdowns in movies. It's cool to watch combat, with the bonus of it being turned into a spectacle.

Let's not forget the Monday Night Wars, and the Attitude Era that sprouted from it

God, i love that time. The year 2000 was an awesome year, to be a WWF fan. Great storylines, Great main event stars, great young talent in the mid card, awesome Tag Teams, etc. It  was like Wrestlemania week, every week.

You actually where excited to wait for Raw and Smackdown and didn't watched it in the hope that something awesome will happen.

As do I. Aren't they limited as to what they can do though? Isn't punching not allowed? I also heard there was one character that used a war hammer but wasn't allowed to actually swing it so he thrusted with it.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say this, but as an Undertaker fanatic, I'm still iffy on him losing Wrestlemania a second time in a row. Had his streak been in tact until now, Bray Wyatt would've been the perfect person to end it...but they squashed that chance last year.

That's not to say I think Wyatt losing would be a bad thing. I mean, Randy Orton ended up losing to him in WM21, but at the same time I feel that match was, what really jumpstarted his career

Think WWE will screw Rollins out of his MITB like they did Mr. Anderson and Damien Sandow?

They better not.

I suspect they'll have Orton come in as soon as he tries to cash in, considering the promo of the two of them

Let me head back to remembering WrestleMania classics.

On Cageside seats, one author published his favorite match: Undertaker vs. HBK at WrestleMania 25. This is a match featuring two of the all-time greats: the Phenom vs. Mr. WrestleMania. No titles. No stipulations. Just pride and a streak on the line.

And a half-hour of wrestling greatness. It proved that the WWE could pull of great wrestling and not be stuck in the TV-14 rating. Two wrestlers who've been through the best and worst of WWE and showcasing their best to a new generation. Once the Undertaker barely returned to the ring and escape the countout, the match started to heat up.

A counter into a chokeslam. A kickout.

Sweet Chin Music. A kickout.

The match was just warming up.

We got a Last Ride. A kickout.

Then, HBK held onto the rope:

Prior, only two people kicked out of the Tombstone: Batista in 2007 and Kane (twice) in 1998.

What was an excellent match turned into a top-ten.

After a Sweet Chin Music (and another) kickout, the Undertaker took a botched moonsault into another Tombstone and a victory.

The say it was just a classic is severely understating the quality of the match. It's beyond a classic. It's two veterans who've been through it all and showing everyone the spirit of wrestling. Kids, adults, newcomers, old guards, rookie wrestlers, and other vets. This was a message sender to everyone who watched it.

Well, Triple H's ego got stroked once again, and---from what I've heard---WWE Network lost many more subscribers as a result.

WWE will most likely suffer WCW's fate in a few years if stuff like this keeps up.

And he won, as it should be

I'm kinda glad he won, but I still have mixed feelings about him winning, though I feel the majority of fans couldn't handle him losing two Wrestlemania in a row
