technology Will changing region codes on my PC ruin the optical drive?

I am in a mess here. I legally purchased some DVDs from Japan that I cannot watch in my house. I can't use my playstation 4 or any blu ray player/DVD player. So instead I am simply going to purchase Amerisoft ripping software. I mean, come on, there needs to be a way. Let me just have these on my HDD immortalized forever. I bought them and I am not going to not use them.

 

Windows allows you to change it  4 times, but people are saying you CANNOT revert back to region 1. That scares me and I need help before I do anything.
